Saleh's press conference - Sounds like Flacco does have a shot to be the qb this year

Hard to know.  You're right the impression is total alignment but that doesn't mean before JD makes the final decision there isn't a lot of back and forth and differences of opinion.  You would hope the staff can speak freely prior to final decisions and they aren't all ball washers.

This doesnt give the impression at all that Saleh is upset with the pick. Yes its essentially green tinted propaganda, but still.

Saleh backed the decision right along with JD.

He is now leaning on Flacco because he knows his seat is starting to warm up if he doesnt win with the talent infusion.

That simple.

I had the same takeaway. Saleh was a little squirmy with his words and body language when he was asked about Zach’s return and whether he’d start.

Saleh hasn’t mastered the no-information answers that most of our prior coaches were very good at, even if they weren’t great coaches. Mangini, Bowles and even Gase were really good with the media interviews as far as not indicating their true thoughts and plans.

IMO Saleh is not happy that Zach didn’t tough it out, and Flacco will be the QB if he can maintain average to above average play.

Average won’t be good enough and he’s probably gone after the first loss that happens after Wilson has been cleared

Again, I don’t see why it would be the worst thing in the world for Zach to sit and learn behind Flacco for a year.

Frankly, it’s what should’ve been done last season.

The Jets still have Wilson under contract for another 2 years minimum.

Realistically, I don’t see it happening because Flacco is bound to have a clunker within the next 2-3 weeks that makes it easy to make the move back to Zach.

But if guys like Vinny and Fitzpatrick are capable of having career years well into their 30’s, then Flacco sure as hell is too. Especially with the level of young offensive talent the Jets have accumulated.

They didn't accumulate that talent for Flacco. It was for Wilson. Is this year a playoffs or bust season. We make the playoffs with Flacco. What happens next year. We begin our Wilson experiment then. Or extend a soon to be 39 yr old QB.

Listening to the press conference, Saleh completely blew off the reporter who asked him if this zach's team when he is healthy.  He talked in circles and never answered the question.  I think that is very telling.  He has been adament that Zach plays the minute he is healthy.  He was not that way today.

He also made it clear that the earliest Zach will play is week 4.  But really concentrated on the "earliest" part of that statement.  He was very clear he is not playing week 4, that is just the earliest he would play.

I love Zach and want him out there ASAP.  But after watching the press conference, I think if Joe is playing well and we are wining, Zach is not getting the job back this year.

WOW!  I am stunned but to me, if you can read through the lines, it was clear what Saleh is thinking.

Watch that part of the press conference and let me know what you think.  It was pretty early in the press conference.

Haven’t seen it yet but nah.

He knows Jet fans turn on their QB in an instant.   He’ll wait for a good time to switch and be applauded when he does.

I'm only okay with them delaying the return of Zach Wilson for wins if they've given up on him. I don't want to see us win with Flacco this year, just for them to say next season "Well, we still don't know what we have in Zach." Either figure it out this season, or prepare to move on.

You then hand a more experienced offense to Wilson. It’s as if he sat his rookie year and now he takes over. Not a terrible situation.

Whatevers going on between the Jets executive team and Wilson’s family/camp is not likely in Saleh’s current day to day. He is more than likely an order taker when it comes to Wilson hence the flip flopping in pressers. Luckily he’s go some temporary cover with Flacco having a great game.

JD and Co. will go jimmy G, probably draft a QB and have Wilson compete

That win yesterday was a fluke.  Nice that it went in the Jets favor and the game will be remembered forever… but a fluke nonetheless.

A guesstimate?

85 out of 100x… Jets lose by 14.

14/15 out of 100x, they lose by 6 or 7.

1 out of 1000-2000; they win.

If that fluke doesn’t happen… the Flacco vs. Wilson narrative doesn’t exist.

Sure. But it seems like Saleh got a bit blindsided by something between Wilson’s team and the Jets and he’s rolling with it now. If Wilson doesn’t play this year  it means he’s a bust. Whether the Johnsons recognize that is a different story. Saleh gets paid either way and gets his Jersey mansion.

This seems like a ideal plan but seeing how things are playing out in SF with Trey IMO it is wayyyyyyy better to let the team grow with its QB because if the kid has growing pains (like most do) WATCH OUT

It will divide your locker room faster than anything if the team is ready and the kid is not

You guys are crazy.

Saleh is hedging in case Flacco does miraculously continue to play well. Of course, no one would bench the QB if the Jets are winning and he’s playing well.

But let’s get this straight, if the Jets play like they vs the Browns Flacco will be benched immediately. The miracle bought him another game.

Another slightly different take = Maybe he just doesnt actually know what hes doing.

Is this really that implausible?

Are we to seriously believe that the team was split in drafting Wilson? The entire organization top down was hand picked by JD damn near it.

I cannot imagine a scenario where they were split on any decisions last year, or this year. The draft reactions they have shown us time and again show a completely unified organization (propaganda or not).

I do recall reading the same thing... there was a split and I seem to remember that RS/OC wanted to keep Sam...

Lol how is he a bust if he doesn’t play?? Your theories are more absurd every week.

why are you stunned. i have been telling you this for weeks. if Flacco plays well he is going to start until he doesnt. its just smart football.

you want to know the secret? think like you are the HC. like your job is on the line. nobody in their right mind would guarantee Zach anything after the game Flacco had yesterday. even week 1 wasnt his fault.

i like Zach but you guys who are part of the fan club are dreaming things with little proof of reality.

oh look Zach didnt bounce a pass anymore, oh look he had no INTs for weeks. even though he is hardly throwing TDs that improvement....LMFAO.

but Flacco is showing you for REAL what he can do with this offense. you ride this Cinderella story until he turns back into a pumpkin. Zach will get his chance. just enjoy the ride.

Play Flacco until Flacco plays bad.  If Joe comes in and starts a 1st half 6 for 13 with an INT and the Jets are down by 14 points it makes it easy to plug Zach back in there and say, “We needed a spark and to make a change.”  And if Zach comes in and doesn’t play well you just say, “Tough day.  He didn’t do any worse than Joe.”

Ya,  I don't know if I go so far as to say this but I think you are onto something.

Watch ZW's last presser and then this Saleh presser... there is certainly something amiss.

And compounded by Saleh "week 4", "week 4", "maybe not week 4"

His theories have a way of ending up becoming true. The last time I scoffed at an @Matt39 theory was when he said “Becton won’t take another snap for the Jets this year, maybe ever again.”

Matt, when was that? Week 2 last season?

I’m talking about split on a red shirt year. Not taking him altogether.

this is right

the players know what Zach was last year. hell they seen him all camp so they know what he is this year. its one thing for them to go thru the growing pains of a young QB but its another to do it when you know there is a better QB on the team that played well and got benched for Zach. Saleh has got to worry about the players and their development. and not losing the locker room. the guy has to care about his job right?
