Jets Starting Roster 2019 when JD took over

Recommended Posts

Turning over pretty much all of the starters with improved talent is amazing, but what is not shown here is that we actually have depth across most of the roster now too.  Really amazing job by JD and his staff.  Now we just have to see if the QB can make a leap.  If he does, watch out NFL......here come the Jets

If I was to breakdown the current starting roster into quality buckets, I would have the following.  You guys?

Star Players (elite):   OL AVT, RB Breece, DT Quinnen, CB Sauce.   All 4 with All Pro potential (as soon as this year?)

Very Good Players (above avg):   LT Brown, DL JFM, Edge Lawson, CB Reed*

Good Players (avg starters):   C McGovern, RT (a healthy) Fant, WR #2-3 Moore*, WR #2-3 Davis, TE Conklin*, TE Uzomah, DT Rankins, LB Mosley, LB Williams*, LB Alexander, CB Carter II, SS Whitehead

Undecided:  QB Wilson, LG Tomlinson, WR Wilson**, FS Joyner.   Consistency is the biggest issue; can look bad to great quarter to quarter or week to week

* Untapped upside to next level

** #1 WR upside

The disparity in depth might even be more eye-popping.

These are the types of players that help you edge out wins or not get crushed by injuries-- Herbig, Mitchell, Carter, Berrios, Huff, JJ, Clemons, Martin, Echols

The really insane thing about that roster, was the sheer amount of draft capital, money and contracts that went into acquiring it.  We actually had tens of millions of dollars of debt from that disaster hampering JDs FA moves all the way up until last year!!

Meanwhile, we have one of the youngest, brightest, deepest rosters in the league, with very few bad contracts or dead money hampering our moves.

It is IMO, GM of the year sort of turnaround.

2 questions

1. Any positions we are currently weaker versus 2019?

2. Do we currently have any starters that are below average for their position?

I don't think there is any current starters that aren't better than their 2019 counterpart.  Even CJ Mosely is better than CJ Mosely 2019 with a sports hernia .  This team would beat that team to a pulp.
Might be time to play each of those teams against each other in madden
