I think Fields and Zach Wilson, if you asked them to drop back and throw it 30 times, would both look like dogsh*t against the 32nd ranked passing defense in football.

nah...i dont know if Zach is going to be good or not but he is pretty good now given time to throw which a 32nd defense would provide however you may be right with Fields since he likes to run and not as good.

When someone is trying to convince you Zach Wilson is playing the QB position well right now when he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off and missing guys by 5 feet that's the definition of gaslighting....or they could just be special.

No but when Zach is running around to avoid the sach or from having his head taken off  by one of the NFLs top Ds and still completes 61% of his passes he’s right.

Yet somehow some still missed his point

Just about every game he went out and tried to win last year. First game he played this year when he launched that ugly pick to end the first half.  It’s no secret he’s not good under pressure trying to make something happen other than avoiding  the sack and throwing ball away . He was amazing during the stretch against Pittsburgh when he had a clean pocket and got into a rythym.

You’re not being very specific.

Against Pitt the ugly pick happened because Moore ran the wrong route and brought his CB into the area where Jeff smith was going to be. He completed a dime to Davis the play before they was incorrectly called incomplete. And like you said, when it came down to it get led us to a clutch win. Rather bizarre to use the pitt game as an example.

Oh... Not being critical of your use of the term.  Just saying.

And, indeed, they could be foolish and not actually gaslighting.

If they actually believe that Wilson is playing well, it is not gaslighting.  If they knew that Wilson sucked and they wanted to convince a dupe to speak up on Wilson's behalf so they look foolish in front of others, saying to the dupe that Wilson is great in order to dupe them... Now, that would be gaslighting.

Zach has had very little pocket presence since he's been in the league which is why they are still babying him....they don't let him throw the ball past 5 yards completion percentage is a joke.

Then you haven’t been watching games close enough.  He’s hanging in the pocket and stepping up to throw.  He couldn’t last week Denver D was in the backfield all day.  He’s still young with a seasons of games behind him at this point.

None of this "WeLl, thE pLan involves him holding onto the ball for .5 less seconds as each year passes, so we can't really make a determination until year 4 - internally, the Jets politburo is very happy with the Chinese real estate market."

Knowing Belli? He gonna take that run away and put the game on Zach.

Zach wanna be our FQB?

Zach must produce against our most hated rival this week.

Come on Zach, you got this:

didn't the commentators in the denver game say that denver was going to put the game on wilson?  i guess it almost worked.  they didn't count on getting picked or the jet defense being so good.

It’s because I complimented his play in that game and was making the point he did a nice job when he was in a rythym and not under pressure. I understand that the pick wasn’t his fault and the dime  he threw to Davis was an incorrect call. It’s amazing how much bad luck he has. Pitiful how everyone else let’s him down.

Most impressive throwaway passer of all time.

Seriously though his ability to escape is insane. Just wish he wouldn't backpedal 20 yards. Also would be cool if he was good.

He' escaping from pressure that isnt really there in the first place

So, Zach is performing poorly during the toughest part of the schedule, and he's getting reamed for it.  When he gets to the easy part of the schedule, and if he's playing well, he's gonna get sh!t because he's doing it against bad teams.  That's how this forum rolls.  I believe that was the underlying point Simms was making.

My new #4 hybrid arrived today, an Epic Super hybrid. These were selling for $399 (titanium head and a premium shaft) last year and I got mine new for $160.

It hits like a dream. High, straight 200 yard bombs that drop and stop like a sack of potatoes. This thing is going to be a weapon!

What I’m really trying to say here is, Who gives a s**t about Chris Simms?

If you think this forum is hard on him, you should see how NFL fans that don’t root for the Jets feel about him.

And he didn't complete 1 pass. Fields faced good pressure last night and escaped it much easier and actually completed passes after escaping the pressure. Zach stinks.

I guarantee that won't happen.

The next time he puts a full game together against ANY opponent will be the first time he's done it, and we're all dying to see if he ever does.  . .

like, it’s great that he’s so good with a clean pocket, but how often can you guarantee that?

I’d love to see some comps, i.e., if this is something guys can get/have gotten better at, or if it’s one of those innate things. We’d better hope it’s the former!

Kind of a big reason why his tape at BYU looked so great to so many analysts/fans.  He wasn't pressured all that often.

That doesn’t count for the others?  Lawrence, Jones and Fields were under a constant rush?
All these QBs came from strong programs relative to their competition and passed from fairly clean pockets on most pass plays.

PFF has actually stated that clean pocket grade is one of the most stable metrics for projecting success, and is definitely more valuable than under pressure grade. However the problem here is that his under pressure grade is not just bad, but laughably terrible. Kinda brings the value of the clean grade down a ton.

The pressure all looked legit to me. The problem is that his response every time is to spin around and then run ten yards backwards instead of stepping up. I have no idea how you fix that.

This has been very perplexing to me. You saw Fields and other QBs get out of a sack but then they, you know, try to run for the first down while Zach just goes deeper and deeper backwards and never finds an open receiver. That's another crazy thing. All that time for the WRs to escape their defenders and no one ever gets open?

I didn't hear the commentators because I was there...

But yea, we also got a 65 yard TD from Breece and not saying Carter or J Rob can't do that, but it's not nearly as likely without Breece.

More than likely, New England will sellout against the run and make Zach beat them.

thats bad, and you can always pressure him with a free runner.

but what good is beating the crappy teams? if he cant play well against the good teams he is no better than a backup QB.

That’s interesting, and reassuring (sort of). If I remember correctly, he was the best of the 2021 rookie QBs against pressure, so maybe it’s just one of those stats that fluctuates? I also wonder if they’re coaching him to be more conservative. He certainly looks like a guy who’s doing everything possible not to make a mistake. That’s an optimistic view, maybe, assuming you believe he can just flip a switch. In any event, the bad habits are getting alarming. He’s gotta clean it up.

The NFL and NFL-adjacent media apparatus all watched the cut-ups from Jets-Broncos yesterday afternoon and Twitter blew up with “lol Zach Wilson” and “If the Jets had a quarterback…” tweets from every Ringer, ESPN, and The Athletic account. This was compounded by the NY media market finally watching a Jaguars and Bears game and seeing that Lawrence and Fields have talent. Simms is responding to those people.

You always double down on 11, Mikey.

So I was curious to what Denver’s D did to other QBs this year.  Here is the average game for the other 6 QBs they’ve faced.  Zach’s game does not go into these.  Zach was not very good Sunday.  Basically no QBs have been good against the Broncos, including Herbert and Derek Carr.  Geno in week 1 was easily the best game against them at 23/28 for 195 and 2 TD 0 int

24/38 for 182 yards and .5TD and .667 INT and a QB rating of 72.03.  Also just a fraction above 3 sacks.  People can spin this positively or negatively I’m sure, but the main takeaway is that the Broncos defense is just really really good.

There’s really no reason to bring Fields into this. Fields invented the backpedal 10 yards then spin yourself into a sack maneuver.

He is a "see it, throw it" player right now. He plays like he has no natural feel for the game, at all.

Michael Kay said that getting Robinson is evidence that Saleh is not yet ready to take the training wheels off Zach just yet.

but from what i hear we got good news coming. Zach Wilson just finish his 1st NFL season (17 games). this sunday starts year 2. we might finally see that improvement we have been looking for... lmao
