Apparently Jets are doing good for once so we'll pick this back up some other time

Got it, we’ll put you down as in

Tell ya what. You get at least 10 who actually commit to playing the game, not signing up and showing up once every 3 days and I'll play. If y'all are going to just be a bunch of jerkoffs like the last 5 games played here I have zero interest.

Also, a mod who can maintain a proper God damn vote count and maintain the flow of the game.

Lastly, EAD.

Sure, does anyone else want to mod? I can do it but I'm also just as happy to play. Also if I'm modding I'm kind of starting from scratch because I don't remember what I had going the last two times I tried to get a game started.

Lemme know if there’s any first-timers I should include in the mass tag invite.  Maybe we can revitalize this b*tch with some new players.

I think there were a couple people who were interested last year and I remember someone posting they were disappointed they didn't get an invite but idk who it was or where those posts were.

I'm in ... alway watched from afar wondering what you animals were up to.

Do you need an explanation of how the game works? It's not really necessary since half of us barely try and the other half suck anyway but, you know, if you wanted to actually know I'd be happy to explain it.

These are quite a lot of demands.  I’ll be sure to share them with upper management.  Thx

Yes I'd appreciate it.

While Nolder compiles some info, this is a good starting point:

I also found it helpful to read through some older games a bit to learn the terminology through context.

But really no matter what tools and resources we provide, the best way to learn is just to jump in and play, and ask questions as you go.  The more active you are, the better your experience will be.

I still suck at this game though so take my advice with a grain of salt, lol.

@Nolder come to think of it would it be helpful to add a "terminology" post to DPR's thread?  I feel like learning all of our silly terms is what holds new players up the most, lol.

Do you mean like define all the words, phrases, and abbreviations we commonly use? (ie lynching, paint by numbers, SK)

I could work on a post over time but it probably wouldn't be ready for awhile.

Alright so like pretty much any game it starts simple but can get more complicated/advanced. I'll give you the simple basic game and how it works but know that there is more to know and this isn't a complete guide of everything you can encounter while playing Mafia.

Mafia (sometimes called Werewolf) is usually played by two opposing teams. The "good guys" are usually called the Town or the Village and are an uninformed majority. This means that they only know they themselves are a Townie/Villager but they don't know anyone else's roles in the game. The "bad guys" are usually called the Mafia or Werewolves and they are a smaller team of an informed minority. This means they know who their teammates are and can usually communicate with them privately outside the game (not allowed for other players unless told they can by the game moderator).

The goal of the game is to eliminate the other team. The game is played in two phases called the Day phase and the Night phase. During the day everyone talks freely and can vote to lynch (kill/eliminate) one of the players. Once a player has a simple majority of votes it's decided and the game moderator will kill that player and tell the game whether he was a Mafia or a Villager. After that the game is now in Night phase where any powers may be used (I'll get to those in a moment) and the Mafia talk together privately and decide which Villager they want to kill. Once they have decided they inform the game moderator and the game moderator goes into the game thread and posts that that player is dead and what their role was. Then the game is back in Day phase and the process repeats until either all the Mafia have been lynched or all the Townies have been killed OR the number of Townies equals the number of Mafia which means the Townies no longer have a majority to force a lynch.

Like I mentioned before there are other roles usually in the game. An infinite number restricted only by imagination and balance. Common Town roles you'll see will be things like Cop (can investigate players at Night and is told their alignment), Doctor (can save a player from being killed at Night), and Masons (Townies who know each others alignment). Some common Mafia roles are Godfather (variable but usually shows as Innocent if being investigated by a Cop), Roleblocker (targets another player at Night and prevents them from using their Night power if they have one), and a Lawyer (can make another player look Innocent if investigated by a Cop). Keep in mind that things like a Mafia Doctor or a Town Roleblocker are possible. There is one more thing you need to know...

There are sometimes Third Party factions in games. It's not very common but it's not exactly uncommon either. Usually this comes in the form of a Serial Killer. A Serial Killer or SK is a self aligned killer that only wins if he is the last player standing. It's a very hard role to win as but most people have more fun with it because you can cause a lot of chaos and can often decide who wins even if it's not you. There are some other less common Third Party roles like Cult which recruits other players to it's faction and changes their alignment or Lyncher which wins if their target is lynched but they aren't common and you probably wont encounter them unless you play a lot.

That's the basics but there are a lot of things to know besides what I've put down here. If you want to dig deeper the best place to do that is The MafiaScum Wiki which is probably the best resource a new player can have. There are a couple pages you may want to skim like How To Play, FAQs. and Common Abbreviations. Hope that's not too much info all at once I know my eyes start to glaze over if stuff is too long.
