The NFL has a serious problem and it is called Quarterbacking....

It's interesting because last season I remember a lot of talk about how the rollout of rules favoring offense had allowed for more QBs to establish themselves. This year.. like even some of the 'good' younger guys are struggling. This year it seems like most QBs dropped down a tier and the NFL is ugly all over.

I'm thinking defense have caught up and finally had time for the overall defensive talent to adjust and be more pass centric. Most of your top defenses don't even 3-4, 4-3 as their base defense anymore and the amount they're actually in it is at all-time lows.

The old guard is past it and failing.  Brady, Ryan, Rodgers, Wilson are all done or near done.  Almost none of the last few crops of QBs are any good at all.  Qbs this week:

Daniel Jones 5th year declined, about 150 yards passing most in garbage time.

Geno Smith, playing great but is about and 8 year back up.

Lamar Jackson one of the new breed, does not throw to WRs and is good, as long as he can use his legs.

Brady, put sup some numbers but is done

Russel Wilson -  near done if not done

Trevor Lawrence a 'generational' talent who is in over his head.... sucks

Kyler Murray, put up some stats, loses

Kirk cousins, no one likes this guy but he has been one of the better Qbs over the last 6 or 7 years.

Zac Wilson puts up the a lot of passing yards this week, top three perhaps?  But sucks and turnovers cause a loss.

Mac Jones. limited system QB

PJ Walker lol

Marcus Mariota , retread

Kenny Pickett looks like a rookie]

Jalen Hurts, looks like a legit top end QB.

Tua, was good today still questions.

Goff, just  a place holder QB

Derek Carr, serious regression, looks bad

Andy Dalton, retread.

Justin Fields, sucks

Dak Prescott, fairly good but no lead pipe great QB

Malik Willis, lol

Davis Mills, regressed

Garapollo, game manager

Stafford, looks done

Taylor Heineche, lol

Sam Ehrlinger, lol

Josh Allen, legit star QB

Aaron Rodgers, looks done

Mahommes, legit star QB

Watson, who knows if he will be any good when he comes back.

Burrow, legit star QB

Herbert, looked like a stat but has been bad the last few weeks.

Just a lot of terrible QBs, old has beens and about 5 legit really good QBs.

QBs coming into this league are not even remotely ready to play in the league.

Elijah Moore will be happy to be traded,,,,, as long as he can go to about 5 teams in this league, the rest of teams have no QBs.

Out of your list give me the top 5 QB''s thru this years first 8 games.

And do you thinks they will be after 17 games.

I think it's the perfect storm of the top QBs getting old and teams starting young QBs that shouldn't be on the field yet.....the question is are teams ruining young players by not letting them sit and learn for a few years.  A decade ago Wilson wouldn't have seen the field till 2023.

I think we need more pocket passers.

Too many QBs trying to make things happen with their athletic ability instead of working inside the pocket.

But that’s why you risk it all for a top QB in the draft. It can change your teams fortunes for the next decade if you hit big.

Besides Burrow, all the good (or at least not crappy) young QBs in the league use their legs a ton. Mahomes and Herbert are more mobile than pure runners but I think it's pretty clear that the pure dropback guy is a thing of the past. Z Wilson, who is plenty athletic, is less of a running threat than most of the good ones.

I'm sorry but there are more good QBs then ever now.

like who?

Watson is a maybe after taking two years off.  And his team won 4 games the last year he played and put up stats.

Josh Allen is legit

Mahommes is legit

Hurts looks great but still one year.

Lamar looks great at times and bad at other times, has failed in the playoffs.

The last few crops of QBs, lawrence sucks, wilson sucks, fields sucks, Mac Jones nothing speical, Darnold, rosen and Baker all failed miserably.

The issue with this is the olines and injures and bust play there.  Look at the jets in theory we should have a dominant oline, bection AVt, fant or brown.  If you are a picket passer with a bad oline you are doomed.

Tom Brady, who has played pretty mediocre football this year in a number of games (looking completely tuned out), is ranked 9th best qb in the league by PFF this year with a score of 75 (which is like middle of the pack starter in normal years).  Despite a divorce, jags on his Oline and being 45 years old.

That should tell you all you need to know about the rest of the league’s qb play.  Outside of like 3 or 4 people, its been simply abysmal.

Oline play this year has also been terrible.  I remember reading a few years ago about the lack of quality Oline coming out of college.  Perhaps thats what has shifted.

The league has always only had a handful of good QBs at a time in it and will continue to only have a few at any given time. It's a super elite position. There's only 5 to 10 on the planet, generally. The league, however, has sold out for massive revenue, to make the game more apealing to a wider range of people by gearing the rules toward passing. The game is now one dimensional. Defenses go after the QB. Harder to hide that mediocre play these days.

NFL had a good stretch of first round busts from 2009-2016 before the Mahomes, Watson, Burrow, Herbert , Allen , Lamar etc group came in the last few years. From that group we have Stafford left , Luck retired early and should be in his prime. Now Brady and Rodgers are falling off. They also don’t practice as much anymore. Ugly product going around

QB play is worse than its been in about 2 decades and yet Zach will probably be ranked 33rd or 34th in QB rating and a bunch of other categories when the stats update tomorrow.

UPDATE:

Zach Wilson ranks

  • Completion percentage (54.9):  34th
  • TD % (2.1):  34th
  • INT % (3.5):  31st
  • QB Rating (71.0):  34th
  • On Target % (53.7):  34th

Zach is lousy, so are about another 20 QBs in this league.

We have about 3 truly top end QBS, About another 3-4 who are good but with a small sample size and a a ton of terrible failed QBs

This is one reason the Jets solution at QB is a tough one, teams might be willing to trade aging vets but you do not know if you are getting a guy with anything left or not.
