This doesn't make us better but it also doesn't make us worse. He was a potential cut next year.

I am guessing he would have been the odd man out with JJ coming back next week.  Not a trade to get excited about, but not something to kill JD about either.  Pretty much a meh trade.

And this team has quite a few rotational pass rushers at the moment including younger guys who need to see the field more like Huff and Jermaine Johnson.  Jacob Martin was basically a replacement level guy, a solid veteran but nothing special, and not a bigtime need with Lawson, Vinny Curry and others here including the guys I mentioned.  Just too much quantity at the DE position.

Probably has to do with JJ getting healthy and Huff emerging. Not bad to move into the 4th round for a rotational pass rusher

VERY TRUE.

We didn't give anything up.  We signed him to a F/A deal.  We now free up money for the rest of this year and next, and we switched from the 5th round to the 4th round to do it.

Its these small deals that work out well in many cases.  Not splashy, but consistently positive.

I've noticed that, as well.

Wouldn't surprise me to find out he values 3rd rounders much more than 4th rounders, 2nd rounders much more than 3rd rounders, and 1st rounders much more than 2nd rounders.

I meant more along the lines that he traded all the picks after the 4th round last year so he doesn’t see much value out of them Vs undrafted rookies

The Jets get over $9M in cap relief over the next three years by trading a player who was gonna struggle to see the field here. A chunk of that will probably go to tendering Huff, who’s a RFA this coming offseason.

Exactly.  Why is that so hard for some to understand?  I had him in possible trade targets post earlier today for that reason.

Smart trade as Jets need to transfer these dollars to Huff ..  Plus they get back a little more..

Limited snaps....Was signed prior to drafting JJ & Clemons and resigning Curry

Line up at Edge (depending on down)

JLM, Lawson, Huff (best pure pass rusher), JJ, Clemons, Curry, Martin

Still a crowded room.  Have to think the hope is that JJ and Huff really emerge over the remainder of this year and allow the Jets to move on from someone like Curry I guess.  The money is tied up in Lawson and JFM.  JJ, Huff and Clemons are still relatively cheap to varying degrees.

Cap clearing move

Over the cap says the dead money cap hits are:

2023: 1.85 mill

2024: 2.3 mill

So about $4 mill in dead cap. Don’t love that. Not enormous and I applaud trying to get pass rushers.  We got a lot of pups that should get second contracts in the coming years. We have 2 funky cap aerobic contracts in Mosley and Duane Brown.

Quinnen will get a bag soon.  Lawson and Corey Davis have outs in their contracts after this year. I expect Davis is kept at $11 mill but Lawson may not at $15 mill.
