They were both fatally flawed qbs.   OB could make all the throws, but had feet of lead and crumbled in big spots....Penny was Cerebral, knew what he needed to do, but after the injuries, couldn't make the throws he needed to make.   I'll go with OB.  Could make any throw at any time.   I remember that Miami game as a kid too.   Assumed they had lost and fortunately my dad called me in to watch the end after he had already hit Walker a couple of times.  I'll always remember that 85 team....10-1 and all the dline injuries and Ob's implosion.    FU Al McGuire.

It’s a tough one. Both players are pretty similar in the sense they peaked early and then gradually declined.

The mid 80s Jets were fun to watch on offense and Kotite and Walton did a great job leveraging Kenny’s one super power which was the deep ball.

The 2002 Jets absolutely caught fire on offense down the stretch with Pennington.  Unfortunately they ran into a loaded Raiders team in the playoffs.

It’s tough but I picked Pennington. Overall I just thought he was better. OBrien used to drive me nuts with the sacks and turnovers.

I do think the 85-86 Jets would have been unstoppable playing today.

Pennington, when healthy, was the better QB. With all the talent O’Brien had around him, he never won a post season game. O’Brien was a statue, he had No football instincts. O’Brien would throw the ball away on 4th down rather than run for it. I would take Pennington anytime over Kenny.

Chad or Kenny, who you got?
Loved both .. Super tough .. but I'll take OBrien ... Far better arm especially compared to post wrist/shoulder-less Penny.

But Pennny's accuracy was special. And his leadership was better too.

This game though .. did Penny ever throw as much in any game ??

479 yards in the air. Let that sink in.

Two different styles - Game Manager vs Gunslinger
Yup ... Arm talent contributes way more to my enjoyment of the game ... Trent Dilfer vs Jeff George .. both undesirable... But I'd take George every time. And perhaps that would help explain my closet bereft of Super Bowl trophies.

“Pennys” accuracy was not special. He dinked and dunked his way to 60%

this was the most exciting Jet game i ever saw. the ups and downs and then beating that SOB Marino and the Dolphins was a great feeling. Walker had a monster day too.

for all you guys too young or not even born yet this win felt just as great as beating Brady and the Pats.

they were are most hated rivals back then. but unlike the Pats we actually beat them alot. in fact i think we were tied or close too it in the O Brien- Marino ERAs.

those 80s team were good. our offense was loaded. McNeil, Walker, Toon, Shuler.... we should have won more than we did

I started following the Jets when Chad was drafted. Didn't take long for me to experience what being a Jet fan was like when his injuries piled on. He was so smooth with his throws and his play action was a beauty. Looking back at the highlights, it looks like the most catchable balls a WR can get.

So for that, I go with Noodle Arm Chad!! Always and forever.

You are talking about the 86 Jets and Paul Mcguire.  Al McGuire was the Marquette hoops coach.

For the win........

Pennington didn't "go to the Dolphins."  He was released by the Jets when they acquired Favre and the Dolphins offered him a contract.  Pennington then went on to win the division in Miami, beating Favre and the Jets in the last game to do so.  It was the Jets who left Pennington, not Pennington who left the Jets.
