going to be a hypocrite because I hated when saleh did the whole receipts but have to admit when I heard this my thought was Zach ain’t taking any sh-t and is ready for sunday.

don’t remember the exact words but the reporter kind of gave a wise ass response to Zach saying that and Zach responded with is that why you turned down a coaching job.

I don’t know, it’s probably that they just do different things, try and confuse you. They own their scheme, he’s a good coach, and you can definitely tell everybody knows what they’re doing on that side of the ball.

 

Connor Hughes, SNY: Zach, you had a game a couple of weeks ago against them, obviously you guys had Buffalo and the Bye in between, but when you looked at the schedule, that game didn’t go as well as you wanted, and you saw two weeks later you play them again, is a part of you like ‘Let’s go’?

Yeah, I mean excited because it’s another challenge, and this is a big divisional game for us obviously. Not necessarily to feel like I have to prove anything of ‘you know what, last game didn’t go great, I got to do something different this time’, but just the progress of we won a big game last week and it’s on to the next and this is our next challenge, these guys are a great team, they do a great job defensively, so I am looking at it that way, I’m super excited for this game.

 

Connor Hughes, SNY: How are you able to put, I mean that Buffalo game might’ve been one of the better ones, except in the fourth quarter against the Steelers, one of the better complete games you’ve played. How were you able to push New England so far back, and immediately come back with that confidence?

Yeah, it’s a next play mentality, taking the good and learning from the bad, and there was a lot of good things that happened in the first Patriots game, but it’s leaning from the mistakes and being able to move on from them.

 

Rich Cimini, ESPN.com: (Mike) LaFleur was saying today that there were four to five teachable moments from that first Patriots game. You personally, what were those?

Right, just some of those, obviously when I throw the ball away, I got to throw the ball away. Even in a moment of feeling like you want to make a play and have something happen, you can’t just throw a ball up like I did at the end. It’s trusting in our defense, playing the sticks, and nothing’s there on third down sometimes just throwing it away. I had a lot of throwaways, so it’s frustrating, frustrating game, you want to get things going and right there is just one more throwaway and playing the field position.

 

Zack Rosenblatt, The Athletic: Against the Bills, you were able to get the ball out of your hands quickly, is that something to carry with you going forward?

Yeah, I mean that’s always the goal, right? I’m never back there saying ‘you know that guy’s open, but I’m not going to throw it to him, let me move on’. The goal is always to get the ball out of your hands quickly, but sometimes when things aren’t there, you have to progress, things take a little bit of time, so the key is how quickly can you progress and be efficient with your thoughts and understand the pass rush, and sometimes where is your quickest outlet to get a completion.

 

Rich Cimini, ESPN.com: The Patriots play a lot of man-to-man, but yet they seem to play it a lot better than most of the other teams that play it a lot. What is it about them that makes it so troublesome for quarterbacks?

Right, I think it’s how their leverages and how they help each other, understanding where their help is. If it was a one-on-one, receiver defensive back drill, they probably wouldn’t be the best at it, but because they have the help of their safeties and the inside (line)backers helping, with how they force people one way or the other, they use the sideline, I think they do a good job of understanding where help is.

 

Rich Cimini, ESPN.com: Like a good team defense?

Yeah, a good team man-to-man defense.

 

Connor Hughes, SNY: Is there a benefit at all Zach, to seeing New England again, in terms of just where your career, now this is the same defense, a lot of the same players, but now you have a little bit of an experience against them?

Right, yeah, you know what to expect a little bit, but it also does feel like a different game, a different opponent just because there’s always a flavor of what they’re looking for, but it’s going to be a cool opportunity for us to go out there and try and take the good with us and just play efficient football.

 

Tom Rock, Newsday: Zach, you were pretty emotional when you came off the field against them a couple of weeks ago. How do you put those emotions, keep those emotions out of the way this game?

Right, I thought they were good emotions. I mean I was frustrated and I still believe nobody outside of this building knows what they’re talking about.

Yeah? Why’d you turn down a coaching position? (laughter).

Yeah, great head space, we’re winning football games, we’re where we want to be, and there’s still so much to improve on, so from a team aspect, we’re excited with where we’re at, and it’s going to be a great challenge for us.

 

Andy Vasquez, NJ Advance Media: This is obviously a big game. If you guys win you’re going to be in first place in the division, so how do you balance that, obviously there’s excitement there, but you don’t want to try to do too much?

Right, you just go out there and play football like we have, lean on each other. Execution across the board, one play at a time.

 

Rich Cimini, ESPN.com: You’re not the first quarterback to struggle, young quarterback to struggle against them. The fact that you had those two games against them, do you just kind of want to say to yourself, I just got to beat these guys, these guys are driving me crazy?

Yeah, I mean it’s frustrating, but for me, my mindset this week is taking it one play at a time, how can I make the best decision on that play? Don’t get too far ahead of myself as far as feeling like I need a big play or I need to make something happen. Just trusting in the offense, trusting in the guys around me.

 

Andy Vasquez, NJ Advance Media: You guys have done well on the road this year. What do you think it’s going to be like there on Sunday, and what are the challenges of playing there?

Yeah, I think it’s a cool place to play, I’m sure it’s going to be cold, a little windy, and a good atmosphere, but we didn’t have a great game last time we were at their place, so we have to do some good things.

What it does shows is that Zach is appropriately confident and committed to being good; just what you want from your starting QB.

To me , that was a video VERY FULL of platitudes and say the right thing moments. "They're a great team, they are well coached, it's another challenge etc....    He didn't come off as over confident, he came off , to me, as hiding a bit of nervousness.  Probably normal. That's OK too.
