I was wrong.  While I still say many of you knuckleheads never gave the kid a shot -but not only did I defend him, quite often I wasn't nice about it.   For that I apologize to my fellow JetNationers.

As a vocal fan of his and this teams' I must accept the reality of the situation -  His benching this week, to me, signals the beginning of the end of his time as a NY Jet.

Sad day in Jet land....But let the Mike White era begin!

No apology is required in my book.  You believed in a guy, and you said so.  No harm, no foul in my book.  It was never about your fandom, it was always about analysis.

As I said in the breaking news thread, hopefully this isn't the end of Zach.  Hopefully he rises to this challenge, takes it like a man, like a competitor, and uses this opportunity to better and improve himself and his play.  This is only the end if Zach allows it to be or handles it poorly or immaturely.

I have been all in on Zach as well and I am OK with this move.

I thought Zach was the best college QB I have seen and still do. The pro Zach has not resembled that guy in any way. And his performance was NOT just a function of lesser competition. Zach possesses ELITE skills.

Sounds like the coaching staff feels his fundamentals have gone to crap, he is not mature and his handling of the press conference was uber lame. I still believe he can "get it" and be a FQB but who knows if he even gets the chance now. My issue is that I do not think White is the answer. We might go 2-5 with him and miss the playoffs. In many ways Zach was terrible but his ability to avoid the sack won us games alone.

I do have a serious question about Zach. He took Aderall in college. Was he not approved to continue in the NFL?

And I will remind you again of what I stated when you thought Wilson was a goat prospect: it was a mirage created by a Covid season with empty stadiums and poor competition along with a play style that would never translate to the pros.

Zach wasn't drafted for his performance at BYU.  He was drafted because of his skill-set.

So far that skill-set hasn't translated.  I just never bought the competition argument.  Zach's traits were worth of the spot in which he was picked, but he probably should have sat for a year, possibly two.

I think if the team stunk and the defense was still struggling people on this forum including myself would be willing to let Zach play out the year and try to improve but this is now a very good football team that has playoff chances including winning the division . Since its been so long a drought and the QB was not performing at all a move had to be made or risk losing the locker room and the fans and thats never good.

Nail on head here. This team as currently constructed should be a playoff team. If Breece was still healthy and if they had a league average QB, it'd be a dark horse SB contender. The team around Zach advanced faster than I think most of us could have expected. Average fan is impatient, but also we haven't been good in almost 10 years. So it's hard to feel annoyed by that and it's pretty normal to be upset at the dude holding the team back.

That being said, I feel like the fans have zero to do with Zach getting benched right now and it's everything to do with Zach's immaturity as both a person and a player. He's young and probably hasn't faced all that much adversity in his life given his sheltered background. But the character of a person comes out in times like this. You either pout and feel sorry for yourself or you do something about it. Hope he takes the latter approach.

Much respect to you for owning it.

The disappointment of having our hopes dashed is never easy, and some will just live in denial. You took the high road.

Yep I agree and I don't think the fans have much impact but they do have some. I'm sure the coaching staff would have made the choice fans or no fans but its going to be good for the team, the coaching staff and probably for Zach not to have to hear the Mike White Chants, because we all knew they were coming again and probably much louder than last time when some fans were still torn on the QB situation.

It's been quite a ride. I've been.a staunch supporter of Fidelio takes at times and have disagreed completely at times. I like you a lot as a poster because I think our faith and support for Zach came from the same place.

I checked out during the COVID year and became very apathetic towards watching them play. The only sense of hope I felt as a fan was to get TL and start over again. When that plan foiled I put my faith and optimism into Zach and was excited when he got drafted even though I knew nothing about him aside from some highlight compilations on YouTube.

Zach brought back the die hard fan inside of me that got buried post Rex. I really wanted him to be the franchise and succeed and at times I really thought he could pull it off eventually.

I'm just know finding out about the switch and obviously after Mondays presser it's not a surprise but still a shock to me. Bittersweet ending to the Zach era but it was time. I had given up after the first NE game, regained hope after Buffalo but last game was the final nail in the coffin.

Anyways, big ups to you FidelioJet and bring on the White era!

If you are saying Mike White has a noodle arm I'm sorry to say you have no idea what you're talking about. Learn how a WCO is supposed to run before you start calling out players abilities. Its a short passing offense designed to move the ball eat up clock and move the chains. The offense is based on high percentage passes and playing in a rhythm. The difference you see in Zach and Mike White is that Mike White (limitations or not ) runs the offense better than Zach Wilson by a very large margin. He plays within the system. When this design plays out during a game as you get later in the game and the opposing defense starts to creep up and stop the short game and running game that's when you attack and the intermediate to long passes are completed at a higher percentage. Go look at film of Joe Montana and Drew Brees guys who made a living throwing to RB's TE's and to WR's on short slant routes and then come back and tell me they have a noodle arm > While you at it look at Tom Brady too who made a living beating the Jets and the entire NFL with a short passing game for 20 years

Not necessarily.  Zach looks lost out there because linebackers and safeties are keying on his sloppy ball handling and feasting on his ducks resulting from poor technique.

Zack is 23.  He is under contract for two more years beyond this one.  This is just hard work, discipline and a willingness to admit that there is a problem.  None of it is insurmountable.  Zack will be back.  He is clean and hard working.  But he was not ready to go after missing preseason.  Nor, to be honest, did I see any evidence that he had worked on these flaws in his game.  Somebody dropped the ball big time for that to be the case imo.

Chad Pennington could clean up his game.  Zach just has to let him (or another).

I just don't see how he recovers - here, as a NY Jet.

My concern is he's just still raw and needs time to grow.  This fan base simply doesn't have the patience for him.

I still think he has an opportunity to be a good NFL QB - I just don't see how it happens here.  At least that's my view.

The fan base has no patience for anyone.  I think if the coaching staff has patience he'll get another chance.  I just don't think Mike White has enough talent to hold down the job.  That said, Zach's stats don't lie, he's last in so many categories the odds are not great for a rebirth.  I do think he'll get  another chance, though  if not this year, in training camp next year.  He has arm talent and mobility and they won't give up on him until year three is over, when they have to decide on his 5th year option.  I still haven't given up hope that he can show the improvement necessary, and I think he'll get at least one more chance here.  Now, though, is the time to try and win games and get in the playoffs.

Chad Pennington could make presnap reads and was acurate.  His issue was he had zero arm strength and was as durable as a ‘88 Ford Aerostar

Wilson has some arm strength but it’s really overrated.  He’s a very small player so the fact that he could make most throws impressed scouts and pundits too much.  He has some mobility but nothing special.  His lack of accuracy this season has to be troubling to the coaching staff.  Wilson is missing routine throws to the flats or on curl routes less than 10 yards from LOS.

And then there’s Wilson’s ability to read defenses which simply doesn’t exist

I am not much of a Wilson defender.  But three of his flaws are correctable.  He can learn ball handling to an average level.  He can improve his technique to the NFL level.  And he can learn to get along with people.   There really is plenty to work with.

Perhaps you are correct.  But he did carry a bona fide first round grade even if it was the middle of the round.

Nor did I compare Zach to Chad.  I said Chad could help him.  I believe that.  Chad had some big years in the NFL and he did it for more than one team.  Zach has a long way to go before he can sniff Chad's resume.

A lot of pundits have lost credibility on Zach Wilson.  Obviously Chris Simms is the most glaring example of someone being completely wrong about Wilson to the point you wonder if he was watching a different player in college.

Either you can make presnap reads or you can’t.  It’s not really correctable after a couple years.  Wilson has had 18 months to learn a NFL playbook and gotten a ton of reps and he’s a one read guy who even looks hesitant on that designed one read

1. Respectfully, your first point is outrageous. If Wilson put up stats at BYU similar to what he’s put as a Jet, he would not have been drafted. Having good college stats doesn’t mean you will get drafted high, but having poor stats almost guarantees you won’t get drafted high.

2. It’s time to stop overrating arm strength and off platform throws as signs of a good QB prospect. You need a baseline level of arm strength to make all the throws, but you don’t need a Josh Allen arm to succeed. Handle pressure in the pocket well, go through your progressions quickly, make good decisions and deliver accurate throws. Wilson was always atrocious at the first 2.

Bryce Petty and Christian Hackeberg ruined a lot of jets fans ability to evaluate the qb position.  Both guys were big strong athletes- both were disasters

a lot of jets fans decided to go the opposite route preferring smaller qbs who were supposedly brainy

Boy do I hear you.  The arm can be found.

The ideal Shanahan QB is above average when handling the ball behind the line of scrimmage.  It would be nice if the guy had nice throwing technique too.

This is temporary.   If anyone thinks Mike White is the answer, they don't know the question.  JD is NOT giving up on Zach so easily. I don't care what Saleh says. JD is the boss. Yea, he'll go along with benching Zach, maybe even for the rest of the year. BUT, Zach is going nowhere anytime soon and will get the chance to be the QB of this team.  Whether he becomes cemented as the #1 starter in the future, that's to be seen.  I'd personally rather have Strevler in there as he adds a dimension neither have,

Zach is going to the bench and will stay there until his rookie contract is up and he leaves the NFL.  If White does not play well rest of the season they will sign a veteran in the offseason

Saleh is a great coach. No matter the qb situation it was a timely decision and I didn't think he had it in him tbh. Zach can be the future as soon as he learns how to do basic stuff like find the open man or make reads.

Heard on radio that most likely when Saleh approached Zach he continued to come across as entitled.  Saleh must have really realized Zach is not gonna change. Zach seems to have lost the locker room and Saleh cant seem to connect with him.

I think there’s definitely some denial with ZW right now.  The reset that saleh is referring to is for ZW’s ego.
