slats
Chad is definitely the guy that White reminds me of; sees the field, spreads it around, but has some physical limitations.

I think White has a much stronger arm. Even before his shoulder surgery Chad was exposed in that Oakland playoff game as not being able to throw down field.

Wait a second…. Didn’t you tell me & others that White was not the guy? In so many words .. That’s pretty high praise to now compare him to Chad, after only one more games to judge him on. In all seriousness, I do like the comparison. Looking forward to these next several games to get a better read on him. My preference would be to go into next year with a real competition: a guy like White who can efficiently run this offense, a physically talented Zach who has gotten the mental help he needs, and maybe a third rounder. Cole Pennington will be draft eligible in 2-3 years, currently a freshman at Marshall. I'm just sayin.. 1

I didn’t think Pennington was the guy, at least not after the Oakland game mentioned above. I think White can be a good QB, but I also think he’s physically limited and I have real concerns about his durability. I’m more than happy to be proven wrong on that front, but I’m not there yet. Pennington, Alex Smith, that’s the kind of ceiling I see with him. What happens next year is complicated. White’s an UFA this offseason. Are they going to pay White and keep Zach’s development on life support? And draft a QB relatively high, too? Seems like a lot. Cutting bait with Zach completely would surprise me but, honestly, I’d also like it. A move like that would say a lot about Douglas and Saleh. We’ll see how the rest of year pans out. I’m looking forward to next week.
T0mShane
White is better than Pennington. Pennington was incessantly aware of his stats and where the cameras were. He was a fraud. White has no ego, huge balls, and will throw the ball into traffic to make a play.

It’s not easy to find a competent qb and we know this better than any fan base. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a decent qb for a few years? I mean was Brady’s arm ever elite? For some reason White reminded me of Kirk Cousins yesterday. I guess we will see if that comparison makes sense Sunday. White's arm seemed a little "liver" in the game yesterday than last year.
BroadwayRay
What exactly are these "physical limitations" that people speak of when talking about White. He's mobile, he's big and he can make all the throws. His arm strength is way underrated. Just watch his college tapes.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed his huge balls. Both literally and figuratively. Your last part is the anti game manager in him because he does have some balls to go out and make a play. There is risk here with some interceptions (almost one yesterday) but when you see the Moore pass and Garrett’s second TD, you get the big play upside that some have inferred he does’t have. ‘Check down Mike … blah blah blah’

For a guy who had some relative success for the Jets, it’s interesting that you never, ever hear a word about him from the org itself. It’s like he never existed in that building

I remember the quote by parcells about Pennington when he drafted him and was asked about his arm. He said “he can make all the required throws.” So can white.

People have very simplistic thinking....White was a 5th rounder and cut so his ceiling is lower than Wilson or someone taken in the first round....that's how people think. If Whites name was James Morgan who was taken in the third round by the team three years ago people would be losing their sh*t right now.

Pennington, Alex Smith, that’s the kind of ceiling I see with him. Have you considered that you may over-rate the importance of "physical measurables" in your evaluation of what makes a good/great QB? Honest question, it's easy for folks to think success can only be had if you have elite physical measurables. You seem very concerned about his "physical limitations", i.e. his arm strength. White has as strong or stronger an arm than pre-injury Pennington, or Joe Montana. I don't think his arm strength is going to limit him IF we excels in other vital areas. He will need to be great on those other areas, and so far has mostly been. Like Chad, his durability has been (so far) a concern. And unlike Chad, his INT's (bloated by the one game vs. Buffalo, law of small sample sizes) have been an issue. 18 minutes ago, slats said: What happens next year is complicated. I’m looking forward to next week. All depends on how the rest of this year plays out. Scenario 1: Mike White plays mostly along the lines of his Bengals/Colts/Bears games. Yes, they'll pay him (he'll cost but not back-breakingly) and sign him to a long term deal I think, and may or may not retain Zach as a backup or developmental guy for the short term. No draft pick QB/maybe a mid-round guy. Scenario 2: Mike White plays up and down, some games like the Bears, some games like Buffalo last year. In that case, I think JD would let him walk. Zach would get a shot to compete for the #1 spot in 2023 vs. (likely) a signed Veteran like Jimmy G/G. Minshew/etc. No draft pick QB/maybe a mid-round guy. Scenario 3: Mike White poops up the joint and gets benched and Zach returns and plays great. White walks, Zach goes into 2023 the #1 again. Maybe Flacco is back, maybe another Veteran. Hard to say. Scenario 4: Mike White poops up the joint and gets benched and Zach returns and plays like poop too. Jets miss playoffs. White is let to walk. Zach goes into 2023 as a likely backup, and JD looks to acquire a #1 QB for 2023, again, likely a Veteran. Could also go draft, hard to say (draft for a #1, where we will pick, seems unlikely). There was a throw White hit yesterday in the tightest of windows that Pennington, on his best day would never have even attempted. Pennington is smart, I’ll give him that, and Knew that his road to the fattest bank account was from his Completion %, so he put everything into that, I’d be curious as to how often he checked down during his career, I’ll bet it was over 50% of his completed passes, to pad his stats. After the Raider play off loss I was totally disheartened, I bought into the hype, not the “new Joe Montana” stuff, but enough so I thought he could be one of the best QBs in the league. The Raiders blew that to smithereens. The guy didn’t have the arm to hit anything to the sidelines even pre injuries. So after the rest of the league got the memo all the Jets were left with was a QB who needed 13 play drives with absolutely Everything going right to score a TD. I was disgusted when the Jets gave him that monster contract, how could they not see what was so apparent? But Pennington actually took classes in college on how to deal with the media, sharpening his con game skills at an early age and the Johnsons are usually easy marks for the most part. I was disgusted how much longer they kept him around post injuries. Yeah he was a Fraud. Guy bothers me to this day. I’ll take Mike White over Pennington every day of the week.
