Agent: “Mike do you want  35 million”?

White: “yes”

Agent: “k good luck in Buffalo”

white:  “thx”

MW: If I can get $35M right now, can I potentially get more in the open market in a few weeks?

AGENT: Jimmy G went 5-0 one year and became the highest paid QB in the NFL.

5th round draft pick with no guaranteed money might bite at a Flacco type deal.  3 years 24 million is life changing money and still short enough to get another deal.

No one is going to offer him a better deal than that especially if they give him a draft pick tender.

They can’t tender him he’s not restricted it would have to be the franchise tag. Which is 30 million.

He has proven that he is at the very least a high end back up

Maximum leverage before tough Bills game on road where White could have a bad game

Offer him 3 years 35 with 20 guaranteed

Remove contract pressure for rest of year allowing him to play with maximum confidence

Win win situation

Nah, this gets figured out in the off-season, and most likely with conversation with other FA QBs as well.

At the very least, Zach is back up next year. Not sure they bring in White as a back-up for 12M a year.

not going to happen but if they did do a contract i assume it would have lots of incentives built in.

Exactly. White is in a great position, if he continues to play well - which I think he will.

He will be an unrestricted FA unless the Jets resign him, or franchise or transition tag him.

He has no reason to sign for cheap right now - he knows, if he keeps playing well, either the Jets or another team will pay him very well once free agency hits.

This. To the point where he only gets a mere $20MM if he's a total flop who isn't worth the extra $4MM to keep for extension y2.

He's turning 28 in March. He's not wasting this opportunity for 2-3x that figure just to give the Jets a team-friendly deal. Not when the Jets have already demoted his only starting competition to not even dressing as the QB2.

3/$36MM with $20MM guaranteed is delusional. White would never sign it, and it's an unnecessary distraction - an insulting one at that - to offer it during a playoff run.

The only under-market starter's contract he'll sign is one that'd be at least twice that ($24MM/year with $40MM gtd) because, at his age and situation, that might be harder for him to walk away from in case of a major injury when it's a lifetime of security for his young family. He'd have to consider that, even if he still turned it down.

To be the backup sure, but that’s it he only starts after this season if the starting QB is hurt or the clowns upstairs make another terrible decision for QB1.

Who is going to give white more than that? What if white throws 5 picks next week or gets hurt?

What would it take for you to move him beyond a capable back up in your mind?

Kid is playing legit QB and def NFL starter in this league probably top half.

Hes not getting extended in season.  But there are a lot of interesting financial scenarios to see with him.

1.  If this team makes the playoffs and he is the QB the rest of the way, he is looking at $20 million per season. Its a bit crazy to write/read that number but that is the rate for QBs

2.  If he starts to implode with Ints or is injured before he can get 1-2 more wins then he could be brought back on a 1 year $5 million deal and allow him to compete with zach and a veteran.

You can't erase your horrible Zach takes by going overboard on White now.

LOL

Where are these “high end back up” QBs consistently topping 3 and 4 bills per game, leading their team to 3 score wins (Bears) and mounting double-digit comebacks vs quality teams (Bengals, Vikings)?

The CFL?

Name the backup QBs in the NFL that have done or are currently doing this sort of thing.  Orlovsky?  Chase freaking Daniel?  Colt McCoy?  Who exactly?

Small sample size.  I get it.

But Mike White is a legit NFL starter.
