2) Win a wildcard.  Top 3 non division winners in the conference.   So whether the team is in our division or not it does not matter at all.   This stance that we need to “get ahead of teams in our division” makes no sense.

What you should be saying is “we need to get ahead of ANY team with a chance of making the playoffs”.  A team being in our division has no bearing on us getting a wildcard

Learn the rules before you start making claims about being right or wrong. Cause you are dead wrong.

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after one-or-more clubs are eliminated during any step, tiebreaker restarts at Step 1 of two-club format. If three clubs remain tied after a fourth club is eliminated during any step, tiebreaker restarts at Step 1 of three-club format.)

  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory in all games.
  6. Strength of schedule in all games.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

If the dolphins won tonight, they’d be 2 games ahead of us and the 6th seed would be basically out of play.

Now, we still have a legitimate shot at 2 playoff spots.  The 6th seed and the 7th seed.

Ties are also broken in the division first so us getting into 2nd place would be huge.

Stop backtracking and just admit you were wrong to say “we need to get ahead of teams in our division”  Literally the only thing that matters is being one of the top 7 teams in the conference regardless of our standing in the division.

Your point about the Dolphins possibly winning tonight and being 2 games ahead of us putting the 6 seed out of reach would have been true whether the Dolphins were in our division or not.  Again, your point about getting ahead of division teams makes no sense and has no bearing on our securing a wild card.

If we wind up tied with the Dolphins or Patriots for a playoff spot, we will automatically lose a tiebreaker to the Patriots since head to head is the first tiebreaker.  A tiebreaker with the Dolphins will come down to the last game of the season.  If the Jets win, we have the tiebreaker based on head to head.  If we lose, the Dolphins will have the tiebreaker based on division/conference record.

So, what you hopefully understand by now is that our standing in the division DOES NOT MATTER.  Being one of the top 7 teams in the conference does.

The unabashed confidence of the uninformed is a marvel.

This is getting ridiculous.  We need to be one of the top 7 teams in the conference to make the playoffs.

Whether we are 2nd or 4th in the division does not matter provided we are one of the top 7 teams (including tiebreakers).

So, while it would nice to be ahead of the Dolphins and Patriots and Bills for that matter, our standing in the division does not matter as long as we are one of the top 7 teams.

Obviously being one of the top 7 teams includes tiebreakers, so I’m not sure what you think you have proven with your googling skills.

I don't get the Tua hype. Removing defensive scores.. Miami is a team that doesn't consistently put up points
Week 1 vs NE - 13
Week 2 vs BAL - 42
Week 3 vs BUF - 21
Week 4 vs CIN (Not Tua) - 15
Week 5 vs NYJ (Not Tua) - 17
Week 6 vs MIN (Not Tua) - 16
Week 7 vs PIT - 16
Week 8 vs DET - 31
Week 9 vs CHI - 28
Week 10 vs CLE - 39
Week 11 - BYE
Week 12 vs HOU - 23
Week 13 vs SF - 17
Week 14 vs LAC - 17 ..and 7 of those points came off a busted play where they fumbled and a miracle happened
So in ten weeks of tua playing.. their offense has been good for 4 games. One of those being Baltimore which was another "well, THAT happened".
Three of the four teams they scored 25 or more on have not been great defensively. He has what may be the best 1-2 WR tandem in the league.
They are a team that wins with their defense and the Jets are a better defense.
Don't really listen to talk radio much anymore and perhaps Merrill Hodge has taken too many hits over the years, but they had him on Sirius... made some really great points about Tua... main point was you have to take away the middle of the field from him...anything outside of the numbers and he is a completely different qb and the offense is completely different... so we'll see if teams continue to defend him that way...

The Tua lead Dolphins have always been the same. They play some version of the Houston Texans for 6 weeks in a row for no reason, then get exposed against the slightest competition. Sell your stock.           2
Dolphins remaining schedule is pretty tough ... starting this week @ Buffalo, they also have NE, Green Bay and us to come.

Looks like I'm going to be cheering for the Bills, the dark side and the cheese heads in the next 3 weeks.
