Some thoughts on the game and players

1. We lost because we turned the ball over twice and Buffalo did not. Flacco strip fumble was awful and Michael Carter's was a dagger. We made a lot of other mistakes but take away those and good chance we win.

2. I am starting to think BAM is more than just a pleasant surprise and a decent player. I think he can be really really good. His stats do not reflect how well he is running. He is amazing at yards after contact and turning nothing into something. He can be a force for this team. And regardless of what his 40 or RAS is, he is quick and fast.

3., Sauce was "Revis-ed" today. Allen did not even really look his way. When Saleh realized it he brough Sauce on a couple blitzes one which almost got there. The one PBU Sauce had was amazing. At first it just seemed like the receiver dropped a hard catch but Sauce wedged the ball out with tremendous control. His tackle on the run all the way across the field was very impressive. He is a clear all pro.

4. Huff is completely unblockable. He win easily against a single defender and still wins against chips and double teams. It is absolutely amazing. Problem is that the Bills decided to blatantly hold him every play and dare the refs to call it and of course the refs did not call it. We really need to lock him up and not even be cute and try to tender him. Pay the man.

5.  LaFleur is terrible. Our entire philosophy sucks. The inside trap from shotgun run up the middle sucks. We seem to have no plan to run the ball. He refuses to attack downfield until the game is on the line and even then he likes to be too cute. 5 wides is used way too much and honestly with our OL should never ever be used. Is Saleh brave enough to make changes with his best friend's brother? The worst thing is the compressed splits and tight formations he insists on using. Spread the ball out and use the whole field.

5. Garret Wilson is a true #1 receiver and improving every week.

6. Sad to think but Mosley's idiotic play today and JFMs play against NE might be the difference between 9-4 and 7-6

7. The schedule is still amazingly favorable for us. We just need to regroug. Miami could also collapse. Miami could well be a win and in game. Maybe on a Sunday night

Agree on all points

White’s rib injury might be a blessing in disguise in this regard. LaFleur has to stop with the empty sets. They need to make sure White has a RB next to him on every down to pass protect and leak out, as opposed to making White a sitting duck in the backfield just waiting to get railed. Hopefully with White banged up they put more of an emphasis on the run game and keeping the QB alive.

Isn't James Robinson supposed to be a terrific pass blocking RB?

Terrific post, though we'll see about #7.

And even though it might sound crazy, I'm going to hold off on judging MiLF.  Like you, I'm not a fan of what I've seen (especially recently!) but I remember feeling the same about Ulbrich last year and he's turned it around.

Mike White is going to be carted off a stretcher very soon. Between MLF, our porous oline and MFW's lack of mobility, I can't see a different outcome.

Yeah LaFleur might want to keep somebody in there to actually pick up a blitz.

Or if he is going to run empty, at least do it with some Jet motion to give the defense something to think about, or roll the pocket one way or another so MW’s not a sitting duck back there.

They ran the staple WCO bootleg pass like one time the entire game and it worked.

IDK why they didn’t use it more.

Have to do something to keep the defense on its heels instead of allowing their LBs to basically jump out of the starting blocks and sprint free through the A gap in a beeline towards MW.

Solid post; biggest difference in the last 2 games and why the Jets lost?  Turnover battle.  It cliche but it really is that simple.  It's very hard to win in the NFL when you lose the turnover battle, especially when you're on the road as an underdog.  You have to play clean ball and the Jets failed to do so 2 weeks in row.  And each game that turnover gifted the opposition 3 points and yesterday, 1 of them negated 3 guaranteed points.

Specifically, Game 1 vs. Buffalo, Allen turned it over twice.  Wilson turnover it once.  The game was decided by 1 possession and 3 points and that was the difference.  Game 2 vs. Buffalo, the Bills forced 2 turnovers, the Jets blocked a punt for a safety.  Bills won by 1 possession.

Pretty simple really.  Take care of the ball and the Jets can/will beat anyone they play, provided Q. Will is healthy because he's the DPOY and I dont think it could be more obvious he's that guy then when he exited the game and suddenly, Buffalo could move the ball.

Yep turn the ball over and lose. Okay mistake free football and win.

Miami could also collapse? Why? Because we need them to? I think  Miami is the biggest surprise in the league. I expected then to be last in the division. Their coach is a weirdo nerd but they are doing something right.

Not sure if this is LaFleur, but it drives me insane when its 3rd and 10 and the pass play allows for a 4 yard throw, throw it to the sticks!

And every game there is at least one, "Hey, pass it 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage" play and it NEVER works.

I disagree with point 1. We lost because our oline could not block. White was getting killed, runs were getting blown up. Hard to win when you're that soundly beat across the line.

While the line was not great, the Jets out gained the Bills, had more first downs and more 3rd down conversions, and controlled the clock.

The turnovers and drive killing penalties really did the Jets in.

Detroit has won 5 of their last 6 and are making a playoff push. The light seems to be going on for Lawrence and the Jags. neither game is going to be easy.

Seattle is falling apart. They can't run the ball anymore and putting it in Geno's hands is not good, and I think people are starting to figure out what Miami is doing with Tua and are starting to defend it much better.

All 4 games are winnable. The Jets just have to stop with the game changing mistakes.

A lot of talk about Mike Carter’s fumble today -and it really was a killer- but that was simply a great defensive play punching the ball out there. That’s the sort of thing I’ve been begging the Jets to coach forever. But any defenses of that play aside, it’s clear that Knight has rightly overtaken him at RB. He did test poorly, but that’s really looking like he’s just not great at testing. He will be a better change of pace to Breece next season. He’s got vision, acceleration, and top speed.

I like the system that Mike LaFluer brought here, but I would like to see another brain brought into the mix. Play calling can be both questionable and predictable at times. Losing valuable OL, a star RB, and having limited QB play are also big parts of that puzzle, though.

You nailed it. Add in the Mosley play, which was essentially a hidden turnover that got Buffalo rolling and on the board first

The QB also has to realize he can't throw a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 10. I'd rather see him air mail a ball 10 yrds out of bounds in that scenario,

For sure and both games they failed to establish the run early, and had presnap penalties that got the offense stuck a few times when the weather was more rain than snow.  Vs. the Vikings, they also had a turnover on downs that led to 3 pts, and a huge penalty in the redzone that set them back 1st and 20.  Throw in drops, failing to take advantage of loose balls/tipped balls that other team did take advantage of, etc. and you just cant have that sh*t on the road vs. better Football teams and expect to win.

The Jets have a 2 game home stand get right vs. IMO inferior teams.  Assuming Q. Will can go, this D can shut both the Lions and Jags offense down and neither teams D scares you.  If the Jets show out, respond well, play mistake free Football, win the turnover battle, they can take these next 2 games and get back on track and possibly make the last 2 games playoff worthy contests.

Fair point. One of the hidden things about Zach was he was not taking sacks with the swiss cheese line. Zach was bad but he did do some things that helped us win.

go look at carter's fumble.  he was face masked.  there were also a lot of bad calls or non calls going in the favor of the bills.  granted we aren't allowed to blame losses on officiating but it sure looked like buffalo was getting the benefit of the calls.  it sounds like bam is the only back at full strength right now.  he's been doing a good job.  agree on sauce and huff.  huff was there and when he wasn't he was being held.

right now they have to forget about this game and get their teeth bared for detroit.  it's not going to be easy if they take them lightly.

I hate continuously using the ref card....there is no question that it is real...the refs were calling nothing against Buffalo...except for the two Huff holds but they decided not to call the next 10 Huff holds...I get you can't really call it every play but if it is completely blatant you should call it until the team stops...I though for a while Huff was just speed but he is amazing at bull rushing too
