and I take this from personal experience of friends and relatives of mine as well as from the discourse on this Board, on Twitter and from YouTube comments and discussions of Jets-related topics.

We have lost a lot of intelligent Jets fans who could always be counted on to add to the conversations. I went back and did a little necro-digging to see some of the names of the guys and girls who no longer are around for one reason or another. Here's a few: gg, Verde, Faba, Smizzy, TMac, JetFan13, LatinLawyer, Gimme Shelter, BrenJetsFan, DickKotite, RSJ, PanzerDivision, Stiller Paul (Steelers fan but smart football guy),TaborJet, SpermEdwards used to post a lot more, Scott Dierking,DBatesman, JoeKlecko, SouthernJet, I mean there are a lot of really smart Jets fans and fans of rival teams who could always counted on to add to the discourse.Wherever they posted. Where are they, Where's they all go?

I know a lot of guys get banned and I don't know why or care to start some kind of discussion about any single person, I'm just a little concerned especially when I read the way so many of these new people think, how they judge talent and how they don't see, or maybe they don't WANT to see the lack of it from performances of just a few short weeks ago in comparison to what is happening now.

Hey I resemble that remark, you bitch you.

What I noticed about Jets fans who declared their allegiance to the team in the last ten years (and to a lesser degree, 20 years) have a tendency to keep a second team in their back pocket. They calculate when and where it's socially redeemable to define themselves as a Jets fan.

Another discernable trend has occurred because of fantasy football. Many NFL fans today root for specific players, and only superficially for whatever team it is that they are on at the current moment.

It's definitely a different mindset, but I don't think it's based on intelligence. Perhaps it has more to do with the most recent generations grew up where they didn't keep score and everybody got a participation trophy.

Really interesting thought there Coquito, and it' s something I hadn't even considered (because I don't play FF). I thought it was Tim Tebowization of sports, linking these guys personal beliefs as well as politics into a total package linking what they and their personal hero stands for. THAT was where I thought was when I started to see the change happening, but your thinking adds something else to the discussion. We also DID lose a million Americans from the Covid crisis...

Not a lot of new Jets fans were created over the last 12 years.  The ones that HAVE been created mostly just showed up this year out of the blue.  They arrived at this great site and acted like a bunch of millenials or Gen Z's entering a bar where most of the same people have been going for nearly 2 decades.

Instead of settling in and getting assimilated they acted like they run the place and should dictate how things should be.  Many brought a cult-like obsession with defending Zach Wilson at all costs to the doorstep as well.

It'll get better though.  I think the new guys are starting to figure things out a bit.  Some humble pie has been delivered to the Zach stans and Mike White haters these last few weeks.

I like MILFS.

Zach likes MILFS.

I like Zach.

a Dumb run team becomes increasingly more difficult to support the longer they are in charge.

On an almost certainly unrelated topic, a number of the JN mod team have been in charge for quite a while.  ?

Well, one way to think of it is this: half of the population are below average intelligence.

If we’re looking at averages, it could be there’s one super genius somewhere out there and the rest of us are doofuses (doofi?). That would explain the state of humanity … and my multi-decades support of the Jets. :dohslap:

@SoFlaJets you mentioned a lot of posters that I haven't seen post in quite some time. I forgot about half of them. Then again, I forget everything. Lol.

The time around 2006 - 2010 was when we had some competitive teams. I still can't believe that was over a decade ago. There was a lot of passion back them. The Jets have had some really horrible squads with some folks who were just difficult to cheer for since then. Until this year...

Maybe that contributed to an overall lack of interest? I don't know.

Anyhow, great thread. Awesome to see some of the old names. Hope you're doing well!

There has been a discernable paradigm shift, with many significant albeit diverse contributing factors. "Tebowization" is a relevant factor, how we identify with others who share our value system. The Mike Vick scandal was a polarizing event. Colin Kaepernick was divisive. But regardless of what side of the issue you arrived at, in my opinion it was emotionally driven and not rational. Sometimes we have to reinforce the justification of our resentment of others by assigning them malignant motivations, or worse, we dismiss them as stupid. I'm, if not more, as guilty of that as anybody else.

Nowhere was I saying that the remaining posters were stupid, what I am saying is we've lost a lot of intelligent Jets fans who used to post here a lot.  I know some of the names I listed are still around but for some reason even guys like Southern Jet and Johnny GB and Greenbean (the NC one)  don't post as much as they used to and that's a shame. JGB mentioned why yesterday in a thread, saying something about people always ending up calling someone they disagree with "a troll". That's almost as infuriating as the "dump this thread" garbage that was a big thing at Jets Insider for years, reminding me of high schoolers at the lunch table cliques.

As one of the newest members of the board, but someone who has been a diehard Jets fan since 1968 I do not have the historical board perspective to have seen the change in posts as everyone else has.

This is also the first social internet site that I have posted too. I have never signed up and posted on any of the popular social media sites like Facebook and all of the others one that my kids & grandkids use. I also never got into any of the fantasy football stuff (my fantasy stuff growing up was Playboy magazines-LOL), not that there is anything wrong with all of the different social media sites, I’m just too old to get into it. My reason for signing up and starting to post here was because my best buddy & also diehard Jets fan recently died of cancer and he was my in person version of this board to talk to and commiserate with about our long-suffering Jets.

While I would love for us to get into the playoffs I am also realistic about how far we might go if we do get in. I am too old to believe you go from finishing with one of the worst records in the last few years to winning the Super Bowl the next year. At my age I first just don’t want our team and especially our QB who is the leader of our team to be thought of as a joke around the league.

This season while Zach was playing the football analysts and TV commentators before each game would say we have a great defense (and a great running back before Breece Hall got hurt), but Zach had to figure out how to get the ball into his receivers hands and hang in the pocket longer and not always start running in circles as soon as he though he might get hit.

I’m pretty sure we won’t be hearing any of the football analysts and TV commentators before the Lions game say anything like that about MW. I’m also pretty sure in the locker room this week nobody is questioning if MW is a gamer who deserves their respect and they can believe in as their leader. And I’m definitely sure the receivers want MW as their QB over Zach because his passes (even when a little behind them) are still catchable balls, and not 5 ft over their head or 5 ft in the dirt in front of them.

Hey brother and welcome to JetNation, as a fellow old guy/grandpop (of 14!) who was in the 8th grade watching the Jets beat the Colts on January 12th 1969 with my favorite cousin. Like you, I'm a guy who would watch and listen to every Jets broadcast either on TV or listen on the radio to Merle harmon, Sam DeLuca, and Marty Glickman on the radio. At least until the idea of wasting a Sunday afternoon away on a consistently bad 4 win-a-year Jets team when you're 21-22 during the 1970's during the sexual revolution when girls in halter tops and no bras would try to screw YOU, well football had to take a backseat (ahem backseat, get it?) but yea my best friend Steve and favorite cousin Anthony are still around but miles and states away. But we're still here for you bro, and even though you're right we can't seem to draft a good QB (and the last one is a real doozie) but we CAN believe in one drafted in the 5th round who is starting to play like another late round QB drafted  a round higher than Mike White. So keep posting.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I was projecting too much into what you were saying, and then going off on my own tangent.

People change, as they should. I think though, for some people, they get locked into a persona that doesn't let them change, or grow. I'm a student of Jung's Analytical Psychology. Jung coined the phrase "projection". Depending on one's level of psychological disturbance, an anonymous internet discussion forum can become a dangerous dumping ground in which people can project all their inner monsters onto everyone else.

I try to disengage and not take it personally when I get that toxic vibe that something isn't on the level with the person at the keyboard. Sometimes it just a silly person, at worst it's a malignant maniac that gets off on gaslighting people. I try not to stick around long enough to find out.

He gets it out there. The guy is a player.
Up until about 2 years ago he would always team up with Roman Gabriel. (bet you haven’t heard that name in a while…)

Roman lived here in Charlotte and was the Panthers 1st commentator so yes, very aware of him.  My game is shaping up. Down to a 10, FINALLY hitting a nice power fade after working on it for months.  Haven't broken 80 in a while but haven't shot over 84 in last 7 or so rounds and have had several multiple birdie rounds.

I joined in 2015 because my computer at work wouldn't let me go on Gang Green Message Board where I had been a member since I think 2004. Somehow I was able to access this site though. It's a good message board. There's always going to be new generations of fans who latch on to their favorites and will defend the players no matter what.

When I was in college I defended Mark Sanchez forever, and just didn't want to see the clear problems with him as a QB. Some of it was drinking the Rex Kool-Aid and the back to back title games that came with it, but sometimes people, especially people that might be younger, have a hard time admitting when they are just wrong about something. I'm older now and don't have nearly the same problem looking at things from a different perspective as I did when I was younger. I don't generally care if i'm right or wrong anymore and have no problem admitting when I am wrong.

I finally started stacking some good rounds again, I’ve gone down 2 strokes, so I’m back down to just over 11 now. (that’s almost where I was before my back got screwed up).

Problem is I’m heading up to Long Island tomorrow night, and I don’t know when I’ll get back down because my daughter is due with twins early February, and she just closed on a house. I’m thinking I’ll just stay up there about 5-6 weeks.

It will be great to spend the time with my family, but it will probably kill all the mojo I have right now with my golf game. (Who am I kidding? I’ll probably go crazy after 2 weeks up there and head back down. ?)

Yes, we are similar ages and share similar family situations too and yes the early 70’s were an awesome time to be a teenager such great classic rock music. I too watched our immortal (and only) Super Bowl III win with a favorite cousin at a favorite uncle’s house. I can still remember my father & uncles losing their minds (and me & my cousin joining in the celebration too) when Broadway Joe made good on his guaranteed victory prediction to the press.

I think one thing that MW does have in common with Namath is a very quick release and also like Namath playing while injured much of the time. Namath was tough because he came from a blue collar steel worker family with a lot of older brothers who were athletes. I think it’s a safe bet that Broadway Joe thinks MW is one tough hombre too!

Born in Brooklyn, grew up in Farmingdale. I moved out east to Mt.Sinai (which is near Port Jefferson) when I got married. After my divorce I bought a place in Shoreham.

I’m down here 13 years now. (can’t believe I just wrote that… it feels like yesterday)
