Mike White: Elite Throws Buffalo

Here is a good film review by jetsfactor.com that shows several of White’s elite throws against the Bills.  Always helpful to see in slow motion and from different angles.  The reviewer shows the good & bad and clearly has a knowledge of QB concepts and reads.

White’s anticipation and willingness to hang tight in the pocket (in the face of pressure) are becoming clear strengths.  While his arm strength doesn’t JUMP out, it is good enough when you factor in the above + his accuracy, quick decisions and field vision.  I would add in that he also navigates traffic well using touch / changing the trajectory of the ball.  You might recall he also did the latter well on a medium corner route to Davis against the Vikings in Jets territory.

Check it out if interested.

He’s not a finished product but he’s making some throws — under extreme pressure — that not many guys in the league can make. Mike T even admitted as much on Cimini’s podcast.

Makes you wonder what’s possible with more starts this year and then a full training camp next year as the starter. it’s exciting. There’s talent and he’s still ascending.

Back to an adult conversation.  Thanks DireJets.

Watching the hits White took by the free rushers, I had the idea that he could have gotten off the mark and still made the play.  A guy coming in like that can't change direction that easily.  White could have shifted to the right or left after seeing a guy was coming clean.  Seems like he does not navigate the pocket at all.  Opposite of Zach Wilson who bails out on a clean pocket with no rushers baring down on him.  Mahomes or Brady would not have taken those hits.  Brady is not mobile like Mahomes, but he is masterful with that single step in a single direction at the right time.

Agreed. MW has to get lighter on his feet. Like I said, he’s not a finished product. He needs to work on his quickness and lateral movement in the pocket. But there’s no reason to think he can’t do it. Guy’s gotten so much better and he was languishing as the 3rd stringer for much of the year. He’s already put in the work in a position where most would not.

You people are unbelievable. Mike White gets his brains beat in while making high-level throws we haven’t seen around these parts since Favre and you, Jets fans, are too good for it? Despicable. You deserve the Zach Wilson/Jimmy Garoppolo sandwich you’re going to choke on for the next three years, you ingrate meatballs.

Some here want to trade assets for Derek Carr on his $40M per year salary, even though White’s stats on a per-game basis are superior to Carr’s.

Absurd.

i don't think a qb can last that long in the nfl without having the ability to make those elite throws.  i know the talking heads said not many can make them but what they mean is can't make them during a game when there's pressure or an actual defender in the way.  white has been playing well.  it's hard to say why they haven't been scoring tds of late.  maybe the jets are getting predictable.  it doesn't help that the oline is still being shuffled around because oline play is the key to red zone scoring.

hopefully the jets can put it all together on sunday.  it's not win and in but it certainly makes it easier over the next three games.

I thought he played very well, but I can’t help but feel like the “getting your brain beat” part is his own doing because of his style of play and limitations. If a QB needs to expose themselves to brutal hits in order to be effective… that isn’t very sustainable.

The alternative is to run backwards, with your back to the field, for 15 yards, scramble a bit, then, at best, throw the ball away. Point is taken, he has to take care of himself, but the alternative is unwatchable football.

Some of his throws to the sidelines were terrific.  He has a nice live arm.  He is slow as molasas and built like a twig.  He needs to beef up during the offseason and work on his movement.   I don't think he makes it out of the season, maybe not out of next week.  He's shown his mentally tough but not physically tough.

I've been over here, trying to educate, drop knowledge, fight the good fight but you know, I think the "you deserve Zach Wilson" angle, is the strongest point of contention any poster can make and it saves me from racking my brains trying to figure out ways to make the blind see the light.
