Zach starting Sunday (merged)

While White couldn't have reasonably been benched for performance, with him out with injury it really makes total sense to give Zach his shot at redemption.  Flacco would be a waste of everyone's times and as much as Strev was a feel-good story in preseason, a backup CFL QB who's already been out of school for 5 years already was never going to be anything.

This really is the best circumstance Zach could possibly ask for, especially give the opponent, so he needs to show up big.  If he lays another egg on Sunday, then it's all but over and the very best he can hope for next year is being part of a wide open competition with anyone the Jets can get their hands on, including any combination of White's return, veteran FAs, and even draft picks.

On the other hand, if he can go out and have a big game, he could easily earn himself the chance to play out the rest of the season and show what he's got.  I honestly have very little faith in Wilson at this point, considering how little he's shown to date and likely has a better chance of having his name show up on the all-time bust lists than being the answer, but the circumstances make this the perfect time to give him another shot to change everyone's mind.  I'd be thrilled if he managed to actually do that.

For those "hating" on Wilson you need to drop your rocks and hope he's
improved.  Because we have no other option, Flacco proved last week
he's done and there's no way Streveler is going to see the field this
late in the season.  It makes no sense to hope Wilson fails because if
he does we aren't going to the playoffs

Serious question... have you ever seen a QB as completely disinterested in a game ever? It was embarrasing. Even if Zach took just those 2 snaps we might have won

Well, that clears my Sunday.

As a longtime Jets fan I would never miss a huge game like this.

And with the short week, Zach most likely starts against Jax as well

If Zach plays really well he'll most likely start on Thursday. If he doesn't, AND MW is cleared, he will start.

Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Steve Streveler aside, this is the correct move in terms of safety. After seeing The Dolphins put Tua back on the field with a scrambled brain, being cautious with White is the correct move. Mike White's internal organs couldn't possibly be in game shape.

I'm sure that factors other than safety are involved with this decision, but I am happy that Mike White gets a little extra healing time before taking another snap.

You'll change your mind after Sundays loss that White could have easily won. Lions win 10-3. ZW 3 ints and 2 fumbles lost.

It’s gonna be so f*cking funny when White doesn’t re-sign here in the off-season because he’s not going to be dicked around and we have to listen to training battle stats between Zach Wilson, Carson Wentz, Streveler, and some slap-dick rookie.  Seriously; it’s going to be absolutely hysterical.

Here's another reason why this seems contrived. The Jets could have waited till Sunday to get clearance and organizationally they decided to squash that chance on Friday and let Wilson start. The doctors hadn't cleared him up until this point but there is still 48 hours before game time. They used this as the opportunity to get Wilson back in the starting lineup bc they couldn't do it any other way without backlash from the team and fans.

What was the harm in waiting till Sunday to announce whether White could play or not? Teams do it all of the time with their QBs to keep the other team guessing. With Wilson the Jets run way more RPO's and teams have to prepare for Wilson running. Why would the Jets announce this 48 hours early when all it does is give the Lions time to prepare for some schematic elements of this offense that they wouldn't have if White was playing. It makes no sense. The Jets had to make this decision early bc I think the front office was afraid that White would get someone to coat him by Sunday.

Do you think saleh/MLF handcuff him and make him into a dump off guy or let him run the offense with mims/moore and have him sling it?

I think the playcalling will change a little bit, but expect them to still attack in the intermediate/deeper portions of the field. Given that the OL is healthier, more confidence in Zonovan Knight, and Zach Wilson's mobility, I think there will be more designed pocket movement. But if they are winning Zach will throw 25 times. If they are down or the game is close, he'll throw 40+ times. That much won't change.

I haven’t read the whole thread yet, but @football guy said he’d be starting against Detroit a few weeks ago.

In fairness, that was the initial plan for the earliest he could come in and start. I think White changed that plan, but the inevitable ended up happening anyway

I’m making a huge batch of stroffoli Sunday, enough to give out to my sisters and nieces families.

I was going to try to do it either before or after the Jets game. Now? I really don’t care about what time I start frying.

For the record, I am beginning not to trust what comes out of Saleh mouth.

Can he just be honest for once.

Did you ever consider that he can't? The owner and the GM have overruled him and he has to fall on the sword; just the way it is in management, and the NFL.

They are gonna run the ball a ton and lean on the defense to shut down bad-weather Goff.

If you are still alive in season-long fantasy, good luck trusting any Jet WRs.

Wilson took most of the first-team snaps in practice this week as Mike White struggled with an abdomen injury he suffered last week in the Jets' loss to the Bills. Wilson will reclaim his starting job three weeks after being benched amid reports he has struggled with the "yips" since the spring. Head coach Robert Saleh on Friday expressed confidence in Wilson by citing his college stats. Garrett Wilson goes from an upside WR2 to a borderline WR3/4 option with the inaccurate Wilson under center. No other New York pass catcher is startable in 12-team formats with the Jets' QB change. The team has been extremely run heavy when Wilson plays, hiding the second-year quarterback as much as possible. Wilson's presence has crushed passing volume for Jets pass catchers: With White starting, the team averaged 43 pas attempts while Wilson has averaged 26.5 attempts in seven games. Zonovan Knight should retain touch-based fantasy value in what will likely be a conservative offensive game plan with plenty of rushing attempts.

Not sure they is any subtrefuge. Sounds like the Jets doctors ruled him out a while ago but White went to his own doctors for clearance and was rejected by them too

Ok, but let's think this through.

Let's say you are JD and you decide that the Lions are the weakest defense we have left on the schedule (Seattle and Miami's defenses are also kinda trash, but fair enough) and you want to save your #2 pick. Wouldn't this have been decided last Sunday or Monday? In fact, the Mike White injury would have been the perfect excuse for Saleh to come out on Monday and tell the world that Mike White has broken ribs and can't play going forward. Why wait until three days before the game?

Everyone would have understood on Monday if you told the world that Mike White has 4 broken ribs and simply isn't cleared to start another game. In fact, why did they even put him back in the game last Sunday at all?

As usual, this conspiracy theory doesn't really make any sense
