I can't imagine the Jets doing anything but addressing the Oline and front 7 with our first couple of picks. So with that in mind, here's some day 2 & 3 prospects I'm interesting to follow

TE (Day 3 selection)

  • Arik Gilbert, UGA... 6'5, 250 (see his 2020 LSU tape) Not sure he'll declare, and has character concerns, but would be the perfect long term compliment to Ruckert. He's got rnd 1 talent                      (****edit, he just entered the transfer portal 3 hours ago)

DB (Day 3)

  • CB/S Malachi Moore, Alabama.... i feel like MM is going to be an efficiency & physical pro talent that out definitely out perform his draft grade. A+ Slot DB.
  • CB Lance Boykin, CCU... Towering at 6'3, 210, he dominated the sunbelt in 2022 and will appear in E/W shrine game in Jan,
  • S Kaevon Merriweather, Iowa.. 6'0 210, big physical safety who makes plays/turnovers. has a knack for big plays.

WR (Unsure who we're counting on in 2023 and beyond besides EM & GW. Day 3 selection)

  • A.T. Perry, Wake Forest -  IMO, should be in the same convo as Jefferson/Addison/Hyatt/etc. 6'5, 210, with a natural ability to separate. If he is still there in rnd 3? YES
  • EJ Williams, Clemson - unclear if he's declaring. Potential/talent is there.
  • Jared Wayne, Pitt - Ontario native, Possession guy with lots of YAC ability, a Corey Davis type.
  • Jaray Jenkins (LSU)

RB (We're hoping Hall returns 100% but it's not a given, MC has underwhelmed/disappointed this year, Day 3/UDFA. Move on from everyone else except Knight)

  • Tiyon Evans, UL - Stood out all year as a chain moving, splash play back. Plays a lot like our new toy Knight.
  • Eric Gray, OU - I've got significant speed concerns, but dude breaks angles. Straight up exploders. Excels at manipulating tacklers at the second level.
  • Tavion Thomas, Utah - 6'2, 240... shares some qualities/style with former sooner now patriot R. Stevenson. Big, and light on his feet - glides to the second level and hard to tackle

Thanks for the list.

I've been starting to keep an eye on WRs, since we may need to move on from Davis and Mims seems stuck in mediocrity.

I like Jaylin Hyatt but I think he's made himself into the 2nd round right now, and if he flashes the speed I expect at the combine, he might be borderline first type guy.  His size might be a concern too.  I like Josh Downs as well, but with Wilson/Moore, not sure we go further into the size issue.

However, I'm going back to the well that I did last year.  I really like Dontay Demus Jr.

He sucked this year, coming back from the ACL, but he really looked like he was trying to protect his feet.  His cuts and stems were ridiculously slower this year than last year prior to the injury.  I'm assuming he didn't feel comfortable running out there after the injury last year.  However, his 2021 tape showcases very good down field speed, size, catching radius, and good lateral movement.  Would definitely need to look at the medicals, and see how he performs on the shuttle times, but I think he's a round 4 type target that could really pay off.  He has the size and speed to fit into the offense.  I think his down year was from the injury, and him being ultra conservative about it.  I had him as my sleeper last year before he got hurt, and then went back to school.

Yea Demus fell off the radar...

There's quite a bit of star power at the top of the WR class (little less with Boutte returning), not sure how much i love the depth yet... will depend on a few more Juniors -- whether they declare or not.

I think we need to address safety and LB in this draft.  Our defense needs a fast, coverage orientated LB and may be in the perfect spot to take Trenton Simpson in the first round.  If not, then I wonder if there are any mid-round LBs that can actually cover?

Chris Smith is a safety from Georgia who could be a mid-round FS option as he is good in coverage.

add Andrei Iosivas to the WR list 66 rec for 943 and 7 tds for the tigers this year.  Big athletic freak who should test well.

Reminds me a bit of Christian Watson who struggled to start the year but has been coming on over in GB lately.

I also like Tucker Kraft for a late flyer TE.. Been hurt all year with a foot issue, and injuries have piled up over the career, but 6'5 255 who runs well is a nice flyer.

Also my personal favorite since i seem to find a FB every year I want.  Hunter Luepke out of north dakota state.  I end up watching a ton of NDSU every year because I love what they do in the run game and end up stealing half of it lol

Yeah, he really did fall off the radar, but I thought the limited view on his "highlights" this year showed terrible stems, and slow set up.  Last year, it was completely different, which makes me wonder if he just played it safe with the injury (I believe he got injured fairly late) on a team that wasn't really going anywhere.

I'm a firm believer in drafting a WR in the 2nd to 4th rd range every year because that's an expensive position that be stacked with depth.  That way, we don't need to sign a guy like Davis, when someone else can provide similar drops at a much lesser price.

Another guy I've been slightly looking at is Cornelius Johnson from Michigan, because I think he'll test well.  Just the highlight tape shows a single dimension player (deep routes) without on film that I like in the intermediate area aside from quick out routes that are too easy.  But that's an offense that will hide most good receivers, so I would like to see how he tests as well.

Although that plays partially into my scouting bias I guess when I look at players.  I generally like guys that are physically gifted, but their team or QB limited them from putting up monster numbers.  I don't generally go for guys that are limited physically, but put up great numbers on the field as "true football guys" because I don't think the upside is worth it at times.  However, I've certainly been wrong before on that aspect.

We should just draft Luepke and Mauch and let Breece cook.

i mean i think i see a little more Christian Watson in his game than JJAW.. Thats a kiss of death comparison right there lol

Kids a track star, 6.71 60m thats top of the line for the college level (all time fastest was 6.34).  Kids going to test really well I think and probably be a similar looking prospect to watson last year... Small school kid, alot of questions about competition and route tree, going to have a super impressive athletic profile, and going to test well.

I believe he'll go to the senior bowl so im looking forward to that film to see him compete against some higher end talent.

i admittedly watched only 1 game, but i did watch the whole offensive film. I'm not writing him off, but at first blush lotta production came off straight line running and relying on size disparity. That notion may not check out though after a deep dive.

i mean look, he's not going to be some type of dynamic playmaker.  He's a big body that "should" run really well based on his other athletic accomplishments.  He's done things in their offense that we would ask him to do here (screens, end arounds, shallows, deep digs).  Just a name that we could look to in the later rounds where he wouldnt be a complete waste of a pick.  Im not advocating for him being a rd 2 pick like i was with Watson.

Liked Watson a lot hey?. I was quite skeptical, tho he seems to be putting it together down the stretch

I thought in the mid second round he was a good pick to take.  High upside player with an extremely valuable athletic profile. He also really looked good in the senior bowl which helped sell me a lot on him developing as a route runner.  He took a while to get his footing and dealing with drops which i think was a big concern for him coming out, but he's put it together there.  We'll see how his career goes, but that size speed combo and the fact that he played well at the senior bowl really made me feel comfortable with his projection.
