Laken Tomlinson

The Jets can potentially cut him after this season. Only an $8MM dead cap hit and $9MM in cap savings.

when you add that to the zach, mosley, berrios, etc hit.. gonna be adding up quick to cut all the crappy players we want to get rid of... might end up paying more to get rid of the bad players then what we end up paying the good ones.

All that dead cap is for money already paid to those players. It’s not really a penalty in that they do not pay more to get rid of them. All the dead cap is a sunk cost that was going to hit the cap anyway, in the same amount. They pay more to keep them if they pay them more salary.

The only exception is Zach, because he has upcoming guaranteed new money coming his way. They’d have to trade him to avoid that — or find some way to get him suspended lol.

They are currently starters. You have to pay players to replace them too.

The Jets are simply a retirement home for fat contracts by guys looking to cash in, has even one of our high priced deals ever worked out?  I guess Reed has been very good this year.

Like I say every year at FA, totally buyer beware, teams do not let truly good players leave.  FA is used to get some bargain guys normally.

Laken Tomlinson really trying to get on Trumaine Johnson level of bad, he's lucky that every other lineman is injuried in this team he should be in the bench.

No doubt, but you pay new guys instead of old guys.

Most of that dead $ is because they converted/created 2022 pay into signing bonus to lessen this year’s hit.

But take Tomlinson for example: they don’t pay Tomlinson any more if he’s cut. Any dead cap is because they arranged it so most of his 2022 pay was in the form of signing bonus not salary, but the amount was the same. It’s not like they gave him this gargantuan signing bonus that’s advance payment of not just his first season but into his 2nd season, too. His contract called for ~$13MM per season and he got paid just under $14MM of it last year not ~$20MM of it. If he gets injured badly enough these last 2 weeks it looks like that guarantees his salary next year. I don’t think they bench him with 2 games left, but if it’s me and I know I’m not bringing him back next year, yeah I make him inactive the last week. If the politics allowed it, cut him even, just to make sure he doesn’t get injured on Jets property lol.

Same exact thing with Mosley. While his was a restructure of his 2022 pay, not a new-player signing, the same premise is there.

We all did. I don’t think there was a single concern or detractor.

Laken had like a RAS score of 4 coming out of Duke. He was never really a special athlete, the 49ers knew that and let him go

When I think about the left guard position I think about Quenton Nelson and how they traded 3 2nd picks for Sam Darnold, passing up on Quenton.

But that, friends, is a tale for another night

The left side of the line should be fine. It is far from fine.

Tomlinson is going to pay the price for that.

A tale for another night part two:  The Jets make the playoffs this season with Sam Darnold at QB and doing something different with the # 2 overall pick they called Zach Wilson.

I thought he came from the Chargers, but point taken.

The GM everyone was praising signed Tommy, Davis, Lawson over Judon and Hendrickson.

Drafted Becton and Zach, who may be Hackenberg in drag.

Darrisow who we essentially traded AVT for is a more highly regarded player at a

more important position

It’s comical tbh, JD isn’t the worst GM but definitely not the guy our fans hype him up to be. Can’t miss on key picks like this

Man, I was wrong on him.

He had been a good player, knew the offense, wasn't that old for a guard.   I thought he was an excellent signing at the time.

It’s hard to predict when someone will just completely mail it in. I thought he was a good character guy too but I guess he’s just a thief

Maybe we can walk Goodells wife into the locker room at halftime next game.
