Abysmal Play From Wilson in Jets Loss to Jags Puts Jets Back in QB Limbo

Recommended Posts

In a game that the Jet absolutely had to have, it was more of the same from Zach Wilson and the offense.  For the second consecutive game, the Jets defense surrendered just a single touchdown, but once again it was too much for the offense to overcome in a 19-3 loss.

After being gifted fantastic field position when Quinnen Williams forced a fumble that was picked up by the Jets, all Zach Wilson and company could muster from the Jacksonville 16-yard-line was a field goal.  They wouldn’t score another point on the day.

On defense, the Jets were far from perfect, at one point allowing a 96-yard touchdown drive that ended with a Trevor Lawrence TD, but they did  buckle down in the second half and hold the Jags to just six points over the final two quarters.

The Jets would go to Chris Streveler in the third quarter and the QB joined the ever growing list of signal callers to play for Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur who greatly outperformed Wilson.  In just under two quarters, Streveler threw for 90 yards and ran for 54 more.

When asked after the game why Streveler, Joe Flacco, Mike White and Josh Johnson have all outplayed Wilson, head coach Robert Saleh had no answer.  It’s something the team will have to look at according to Saleh.

What the team really needs to be looking at is who will be their quarterback next season.  Less than two years removed from taking Wilson with the second overall pick, the kid is a wreck in every possible way.  His confidence is shaken, his mechanics are a disaster and his awareness is nowhere near where it needs to be for an NFL quarterback.

The Jets have a bright future at several different positions with the emergence of Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and others, but at quarterback, it looks like it’s back to the drawing board.
