Don't even think about it LOL

1 year too early....and even if it made sense to fire Saleh right now....You'd have to give Payton VP of Football Ops and a big bag to come here....Woody would never in his life do such a thing

Plus QB is a mess right now and he's not going to a situation without a QB

Nope,  Jets will pass on him and instead fire Saleh in 2 years - completely missing this opportunity.

And with that, Merry Christmas.

Yes.

Pretty much the same way we were not on the market for Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan. Sunk cost.

Teams that will most likely be looking for a head coach next season:

Colts

Texans

Broncos

Panthers

Saints

Cardinals

I think the Jets would be more attractive to Payton than any of these teams.  Of course if Payton does want to return, I’m sure some teams that I didn’t list would certainly move on from their head coach to land Payton.  Maybe a team like the Cowboys.

I saw rumors more in line with openings at Carolina etc. If you were to hire Payton the assumption is he’d be in charge of personnel decisions and could he work with JD. And would Woody want to pay him top wages plus the salaries of Saleh and maybe JD. The last two GMs fired by Woody are out of the NFL. And how does Payton feel about Zach. Does he think he could develop him and is worth staying with. You’d have to think if so Payton would do a lot better job with him.

Woody would do it.  It is good business.  But the Saints may want too much.  If we don’t have to pay the Saints he should borrow and money and invest in Payton, fire Saleh and let JD stay.

Really?  How is it good business to blowup what’s working, especially if not for poor QB play this team could have 4 more wins?  Would he sell more tix, no, they’re sold out already?
Woody goes over JDs head, fires his HC for a splash/Dolan type move JD should and would quit.

Texans would have the #1 overall pick so, if he loves someone in the draft then maybe he considers that.  He'd probably also get as much power as he wanted there.

The Broncos situation is a disaster due to Russel Wilson's decline and long-term contract

The Panthers aren't that good and, unless Payton likes Sam, they need a QB

Payton just left the Saints so I assume he's not going back there

The Cardinals are locked in with Kyler so it depends on what Payton thinks of him (coming back from an ACL too).

If Dallas wants him then that would work.  But I agree that the Jets are a more attractive situation than these others.  But I still don't think he's coming here.

This is the only way to fix this disaster train wreck, as it was by getting Parcells in 97, however Payton would probably be a longer term solution. If you could get Payton in here, you drop Saleh and Lafleur as quickly as you possibly can and get out of his way.

As we should have done with Reid instead of keeping an inept Bowles. But I am sure Woody would not like being kept out of football ops, so won't happen

Good point about the Texans with the #1 pick.  He could get a QB to go with Pierce at RB plus total control.  Other than that, you would think the Jets would be more attractive, given he gets to pick the QB.  Probably going to be a moot point though.  I’m sure Bobby Saleh will be here next season.

Texans aren’t gonna fire another coach 1 year in.

the jets are attractive.  I honestly don’t know why the cowboys would move on from McCarthy - they’ve been good.

If Payton were to come here, JD would be a goner and I would be ok with that to get Payton.

There’s no way he’s coming here. Woody would have to pay JD and Saleh not to work here and then make Payton the highest paid coach in the NFL.

Payton will look for a QB and we kind of have a problem there.

And Minshew is carving up the Cowboys like a Division II college team.

Steve Wilkes is doing a good job in Carolina.  They should retain him.   Apparently he learned something in his one tear in AZ.

I hear you, but NOBODY is going to outbid Tepper and the Panthers if he wants to make a splash.  Basically the NFL version of Steve Cohen...
