Path to the Playoffs for the Jets

Recommended Posts

Week 17

Miami Dolphins  at New England Patriots 1:00 PM

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs 1:00 PM

New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks 4:05 PM

Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals MNF 8:30 PM

Week 18

New England at Buffalo Bills TBD < hoping this game is on before the Chiefs at Raiders

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins TBD

Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders TBD

If the Jets do their part and finish 9-8, I think the Jets will need the Bills to have something to play for in week 18, so that why I'm rooting for the Bills to win vs the Bengals so they still have shot at the #1 seed. Chiefs aren't losing to the Broncos, but that Raiders game in Vegas is no slam dunk for the Chiefs. In week 18 we'll need the Patriots at Bills on at 1 PM, and then the Chiefs at Raiders on at 4 PM. This will force the Bills to play their starters and curb stomp the Patriots in week 18 with a chance at the 1 seed if the Raiders pull off the upset of the Chiefs in Las Vegas. I can't see the reeling Dolphins beating the Patriots this week in New England, and we all know the Jets need a Patriots loss to get in the playoffs. Best chance for a Patriots loss is at Buffalo with the Bills having the #1 seed to play for.

Bottom line we need the Patriots to lose, and I cannot see the Dolphins sweeping the Patriots this year. The Bengals barely got out of New England with a victory after a 22-0 lead. Add to that Tua might not even play.

If the Bengals do beat the Bills, Buffalo could still earn the #1 seed by winning in week 18 & both KC (Raiders) & Cincy (Ravens) losing that week.  Regardless of how everything pans out this week, the Bills/Pats game will be meaningful for Buffalo.

Welp, I can't see that Ravens team beating that Bengals team in Cincinnati. The Ravens are dragging their muffler into the playoffs. They (Ravens) made me sweat out the Falcons game and I only had the Ravens -2.5.

I'm confused.  If we go 2-0 and NE goes 1-1 wouldn't they beat us out on tiebreaker?

We're both 7-8 right now.

Easiest path is a Miami win this weekend and we beat Seattle and Miami.  Don't want to worry about what Buffalo is playing for vs NE in week 17.

Unless Buffalo beats Cincy  and Kc loses to Denver, then Buffalo locks up the 1 seed before the pats game. Bottom line is we can’t have KC lay an egg this week

Why patriots are a bad team. We gifted them 2 games because Saleh put Zach Wilson over winning.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the schedule next week, especially if the Jets win, the Pats beat the Phins and the Bengals beat the Bills.

In that case, even if the Bills lose and the Chiefs win, the Bills can still get the #1 seed if they win in and the Chiefs lose to LV in week 18.  The Jets/Phins game will then be affected by the outcome the Pats/Bills game because both the Jets and the Phins would need to win and have the Pats lose to get in.

If it plays out that way, I would expect the Jets/Phins and Bills/Pats games will get flexed to 4:00 along with the Chiefs/Raiders.  The outcomes of all three games will have an effect each other, and the league doesn't want to have one team out of it, before they play.

However, if the Phins beat the Pats this week, I would 100% expect the Jets/Phins game to be flexed to Sunday night.  It's a standalone win and your in game for both teams with the results of the other games not mattering and the league will want the NY market on TV in primetime on Sunday night.

All of this, of course, assumes the Jets win this week.

Not sure why everyone is assuming Miami will lose to NE.

If you have actually watched the Dolphins the last 4 weeks, Teddy might be an upgrade at the QB position. Tua has been dreadful.

Tua has not been that bad. his play dropped dramatically in the GB game after he got concussed.

But, even if Bengals beat the Bills this week, the Bills will enter week 18 with a shot at the 1 seed.

I was feeling real good watching the Bengals up 22-0, then I had to get my sh!tting pants on and watch the Patriots almost win that game. I don't think the Dolphins can beat the Patriots in New England, especially without Tua.

If the Chiefs win against the Broncos this week the Bills will have something to play for regardless of whether they beat Cincinnati or not. There is literally no situation where the Bills won't have anything to play for against the Pats if the Chiefs beat an awful Broncos team.

But it doesn’t actually matter to us if the Ravens actually beat the Bengals in week 18, only that the Bills will head into week 18 with a shot at the 1 seed regardless of what happens this week

Teddy is still the better QB in that game and the Dolphins can score with him.

The way I see it the Jets just need to take care of their business and win out and they need the Pats to lose one of their last two games. Simple as that.

I would not assume that the Dolphins will lose to the Pats. I would not assume that a Bills team resting their starters will lose to the Pats. But yes, it would be preferable for the Bills to be playing for something in Wk 18.

So I am rooting AGAINST the Pats no matter what both this week and next week. And I am rooting for the Bills and Chiefs in Wk 17 so they both go into Wk 18 with something to play for.

BTW- we should also be rooting for the Cowboys against the Titans and the Ravens against the Steelers. Correct me if I am wrong, but even if we lose to the Hawks, IF the Pats also lose to the Dolphins, we still have a friggin' chance to get in (assuming we beat the Dolphins in Wk 18 and the Titans and Steelers don't jump us in the standings).

Did you watch the Falcons at Ravens game? Just saying, they don't look that intimidating - and that's with Lamar Jackson coming back if he comes back.

Agreed completely. I think the Ravens will be very lucky to get out of round 1. just saying it doesn’t matter  to us.

The Bills will be playing for a shot at the 1 seed in week 18, regardless

Go use the playoff machine and show me how the Bills will be playing for the #1 seed in week 18 after losing to the Bengals. Are you pinning your hopes to the Chiefs losing to the Broncos at Arrowhead this week?

I’ve already explained it in this thread. Even if the Bills lose this week, they would still get the 1 seed if they won in week 18 and the Chiefs and Bengals lost in week 18.

The bills can NOT be eliminated from contention for the #1 seed this week. Hence, they SHOULD play hard in week 18, no matter what happens this week.

If the Chiefs beat the Broncos this week and the Bills lose to the Bengals, the Bills cannot win the #1 seed. Unless the Playoff Machine is wrong. Go try it.

All those games are TBD, so we'll just have to hope the league doesn't flex the Patriots at Bills to Sunday Night Football. There isn't a chance in hell the Bengals are losing to the smoke and mirrors Ravens team in Cincinnati in week 18 if the Bengals are playing for the 1 seed. Unless of course Burrow is lost for the season or something significant like that. So with all that said...Let's Go Buffalo.
