Derek Carr benched and likely out in Las Vegas

The crazy losses were earlier in the season but it's been going on all year. There have been numerous sound bites and comments made by Carr/McDaniels that have lead fans to believe this to be true. Basically they believe he's being told where to go with the ball. Here is some info on it:

https://youtu.be/O_rT8OEm6RQ

Listen to the wording Carr uses when talking about where he's being told to throw the ball.

I'm probably gonna sound dumb here but....isn't that what reads are? Being told where to go with the ball? 1st, 2nd, 3rd read, etc? Isn't that every offense? What am I missing here

Plus his agent will want to take the Jets to the cleaners.

In a trade it doesn't matter much, as the new team would be taking over his existing contract.

As a FA it's likely someone else will give him a minimum of 2 years fully guaranteed, plus a 3rd for injury, if not 3 fully guaranteed outright. If he knows that - his agent will surely hear via indirect tampering - then he'll just nix any trades.

Alternatively he can ok a trade if the new team also agrees to redo his contract with $100MM guaranteed. Still would remove having to be the highest bidder, and that alone is worth throwing a 7th at the Raiders if they were going to be in on that bidding war anyway.

His existing contract looks like an abomination to me.  Who wants to pay this guy $40.5M AAV for 3 seasons?!  Then we'd be locked in.

I don't want "an upgrade".  I want a guy who can win us a SB.  I'm not interested in a wildcard loss.

If you knew exactly how it would end, sure.

But JD doesn’t have that luxury. No moves are guaranteed to win a SB. He needs to allocate his resources in the way that — in his estimation — maximizes those chances.

I thought the Raiders could opt out of his deal if they cut him within 3 days of the SB.  Figured that’s what the Raiders are doing here to get out from under his deal

I think his benching is a signal they at least want to keep the option to seek a trade open

Most if not all his guaranteed money is paid out. It’s not what it appears and why Carr may well reject all trade attempts because it’s better for him to be cut and get a new deal with new money.

Can JD at least go for TB12 or Aaron Rodgers first before even considering Carr?  Those would be aggressive moves to try to win.

Carr feels (to me) like a guy we're not winning anything big with but who will satisfy some of the fanbase because "he's an upgrade".  Let's also not forget that his agent knows the Jets are desperate for a QB.  He'll demand a long contract with a lot of guaranteed money.  We'll be absolutely locked in with this guy.

Depending on how the rest of this season goes, I'd feel much better going with Mike White.

Would love to get Brady. We might actually win a super bowl

Reminds me so much when people told me Stafford sucked, was no better than Sanchez

As I’ve said he should make a rank order list, start at the top, and move down. He can’t assume he’s just going to get his #1 and he can’t risk losing QB musical chairs and be left without a seat.

If we're not acquiring a guy who has the ability to REALLY move the needle then then I'd rather stick with MFW (pending how he does the rest of the way this year).

The Rams traded 2 first-round picks, a third-round pick and Jared Goff to the Lions for Stafford.

The Raiders are probably going to cut Derek Carr.

When you go team by team there won’t be many teams bidding for carr, as many teams have young qbs they’re developing, and others will draft a qb.  The giants will keep jones, can’t see Washington paying carr but that’s a possibility.  Maybe the titans.  Plus if the raiders cut carr, why wouldn’t he want to come here, there’s a lot for him here.

Move the needle by whose calculation? JD isn’t betting his career on MW’s health. He must must MUST have one of the better backup plans in the league at a bare minimum next season if he enjoys being an NFL GM.

I'm talking about guys like TB12 and Aaron Rodgers (and potentially Lamar, pending health and JD's evaluation of how much he's got left going forward).

EDIT: I haven't seen much of Daniel Jones but I've heard very good things.

So let’s say JD agrees those are best three. What if they don’t happen for whatever reason? Seems you’d just stand pat rather then move on to the 4th QB on the list (whoever that may be).

I suggest that JD doesn’t really have that option at this point.

Now let's do Rodgers: It's just as long for 4x the guaranteed money. Plus he is testing positive for Geritol (he's old) and he's an ass and he looks washed up. The risk in bringing Rodgers here is far greater given his age and his contract.  I also believe this contract makes him untradeable.  The Packers would take a massive cap hit - and if not - then the team acquiring him would.

Current Contract

Aaron Rodgers signed a 3 year, $150,815,000 contract with the Green Bay Packers, including a $40,800,000 signing bonus, $150,815,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $50,271,667. In 2022, Rodgers will earn a base salary of $1,150,000, a signing bonus of $40,800,000 and a workout bonus of $50,000, while carrying a cap hit of $28,533,569 and a dead cap value of $151,047,137.

Nothing against Carr but Mike White is better than anyone available right now,

Mike white can't stay on the field your going into season with a guy that gets hurt easy with no back up. Jets are bringing a vet in Mike White has 2 games to prove himself if he doesn't win last 2 games guaranteed he is gone.

I don't think Rodgers is washed up.  I'd roll the dice with him.  But TB12 is another option.

It's unreal that you are questioning how much Jackson has left, but have made about 200 posts in favor of Brady.  Brady has shown this year he is completely done. You need to look past raw stats and watch the games.  Yes he was 4000 yards, but is doing that by throwing about 800 passes. His YPA is 6.2, which is absolutely anemic.  It means he can't throw downfield and is now a dinner and a dunker - and that is with Evans (who Brady made a non-factor this season ) and Godwin with a supporting cast of Gage, Jones, Miller, and good receiving backs (Fournette and White).  When you peel the onion, Brady has been atrocious this season.  The Bucs are averaging about 15 points a game since September. That makes the Jets offense with White look like the 1999 Rams.  Please, enough with the old man talk! I don't see JD and Saleh betting their futures on a 46 year old self absorbed cheater.  Father Time always wins and you can hear the tick tick every time you watch the anemic Bucs play.

I mean I hope they go Minshew and let MW and him duke it out.

But JD has no choice but to genuinely consider everyone, including Carr.

Agreed that JD needs to consider everything.  I could absolutely see Carr happening (as much as I don't like that idea).

Ultimately, the problem is that FQBs don't become available so we'll be left with whatever happens to be out there (assuming we don't stick with MW).
