Darnold Drive at end of Year 2

I always liked Sam as well.  I think the Jets did him (and themselves) a huge disservice.  They gave him no OL, no weapinz and crappy coaching.  All for the youngest starting QB in NFL history.

It's like we wrote the textbook on how NOT to handle a young QB.  I'm glad (and not surprised) he seems to be starting to put it together now.  I'd definitely be willing to consider bringing him back next year, btw.

I had really hoped they would keep him and build a roster for him in 2021.  I never cared for him as a QB, but I also felt he was given a pretty raw deal.

Just because Wilson has been shockingly bad here doesn’t mean that Sam was good.

What he’s doing right now in Carolina is interesting, but remember that he is in year 5, on his second team. It remains to be seen how sustainable it is.

It's true that ZW being bad doesn't mean anything with regards to Darnold.  But I've always felt like Sam was going to "emerge" at some point so I'm looking at what he's doing in Carolina in a more positive light.

The book is nowhere near complete on Sam Darnold as a starter in this league. He very well might lead the Panthets into the playoffs and get to QB a playoff game. Is it just a coincidence that he's played error free football, behing an improved offensive line. Maybe. Maybe not.

Sam is quietly having some good games in Carolina and can win his division with no help. It'll be fun to see if Sam can hold it together and take his team to the POs. Could be a Sam Darnold /  Zack Wilson superbowl!!!

I'd love to see Carolina make the playoffs with Sam at the helm.  Then I'd like to see how he performs in postseason.

For all the talk about how impatient this fanbase is, Sam proved that if you at least show some flashes of potentially being the QB you were drafted to be, you'll get the time to figure it out.  Even after 3 years there were still fans that wanted to keep Sam, myself included.  I thought with a solid supporting cast he could have been a decent QB.  He certainly looks like one now.

To me its the fans the have the most patience. The coaches, FO, and ownership (like in Sams case) seem to be the most uncomfortable. They try to flip the narrative. The reason they didn't want to give Sam year 4 is because they wanted a rookie QB on a rookie deal and didnt want to worry about paying Sam in a few years.

We sucked in 2020 for Zach Wilson. Coulda kept Darnold and just loaded up on picks by trading down like the Dolphins did who picked below us in the 2021 Draft.

Mar 26, 2021: Dolphins traded 2021 1st round pick (3rd overall, Trey Lance) to 49ers for 2021 1st round pick (12th overall subsequently traded, Micah Parsons), 2022 1st round pick (29th overall subsequently traded, Cole Strange), a 2023 1st round pick and 2022 3rd round pick (102nd overall, Channing Tindall)

Thank you, Joe Douglas

Think about it for a second........we went through a 2 win season.....for......Zach Wilson......

It hurts when you put it like that

I never want to hear about the assinine idea of "Tanking" again for essentially a lottery ticket.

Darnold and his camp's argument was the NY Jets didn't do enough to help him succeed so surely he would find success on a team that had Mcaffrey and a plethora of WRs?

Zach's mom is saying that nobody can succeed in NY because of the fans, apparently we're toxic and that somehow affects his play. It's all our fault. So i'm sure Zach will go most anywhere else and become the Patrick Mahomes II all the talent evaluators envisioned.

Guys, sometimes its just as simple as "he's not that good"

It's tough to swallow that decision. I hated the pick at the time. I love Joe Douglas' last draft but that's a black mark on his GM resume that will cost him 8 of his 9 lives.

Lol. That is not why they got rid of Sam my friend.

Those of us rooting for losses (I was one of them) were hoping we'd be in position to draft Trevor (not ZW).  If Trevor was our QB right now, we'd be talking SB this year (and probably multiple SBs for the next decade).

I feel like those who criticized fans who were rooting for losses are the ones who have lost their standing.

There are probably fans who want the Jets to lose the last two games, convinced that would encourage JD to try and and get Carr.

I think saying Darnold's been 'good' in Carolina is setting the bar very, very low. He hasn't totally ****ed things up for them but 225 yards passing and 1 TD a game ain't exactly Air Coryell.

No because those in the anti tanking squad were worried something like this happen. Do you know hard it is also to get the number 1 pick? It was a stupid idea that burned us

Burned us how?  Were we going to do much better than 2-14 anyway?

And, again, if we had "successfully" tanked, we'd be set up for a decade or more of Jets greatness.  If we're ever in that position again, I'll still root for losses.

Sometimes the thing you want is actually the worse thing that can happen.

If we won a few more games that year, we'd have Penei Sewell.

Sam got a pretty raw deal here. His first season he was a rookie on a team with no talent and a bad HC, then came the Mono year  and that pretty much went off the rails from there, after that was JD first season as a GM (I know JD was here the year before but he was more or less a caretaker) where he systematically traded away anything of value we had, including Sam by the end of the season. If you wanted to sabotage  a QB, this should be the script.
