Money/Contract That Garoppolo & Carr Would Rate ???

If JD goes with a FA QB, it looks like Garoppolo and or Carr are the most likely.

What soft of contract would each of them get on the current market ??? How much and how may years ???

Carr $$$ ???

Garoppolo $$$ ???

How much would they cost and for how long would the Jets be tied to them ???

Let's not forget that their agents know we're over a barrel.  They'll want long deals at big money and a no-trade clause.

There are several other teams that need QB's and will not have high draft picks. They will all be in competition with the Jets for one of these guys. I expect that to drive the price upwards.

I wouldn't even begin to speculate on a number at this time.

I'm guessing your right.  This is less about the Jets though and more about the overall market.  What will the market bare for a QB that was benched (Carr) or a QB that cant stay on the field (Garoppolo) ???

I was hoping a few people would offer some speculation.  I'm really curious as to what they will cost.  Not even a guess ????

I think both options will not be cost effective. My opinion, we would get the same production from either one of them that we get from Mike White.

Could be.  Especially if they sign Garoppolo and he winds up missing a good part of the season due to injury.  I like him when he is on the field better than I like Carr, but he seems to be inured every year.

IMO we are not over a barrel.  This team with this roster is a desirable QB landing spot.  (for once)

We don’t operate in a vacuum where we will get to pick and choose at our leisure.

In our very own division Miami (with Tua’s concussion history) and NE are both likely to be looking at the same options we will.

I don’t even want to look and see how many other teams will be doing the same.

I've been paying attention to Miami. While their fans may be clamoring to move on.. the organization itself doesn't seem too interested. I'd say they are more in the looking for a high end backup. I think both Garoppolo and Carr are going to be looking for starting gigs.

if I was a QB and they would tell me that one of the first 3 rounds will be a OT it is a desirable spot for someone who wants to win.

not sure we can pay the most.

You seem more in tune with Miami’s thinking than me, so I’ll go along with your judgement there. ?

My basic point though, was I keep seeing all these posts from people who are assuming we will get the pick of the litter because… ( I have no idea, actually).

We have to sign QW, get a C, at least another good LB, probably a S. That’s a lot, and I’m assuming nobody else we value leaves in FA. I’m no cap expert, but I don’t believe we have anywhere near the room we had the past two years?

Long story short, the way this season is ending has turned me into a Debbie Downer. Again.

That's about what I'm guessing.  30 million give or take a few.  If it is Garoppolo, I would be careful to make sure the contract he is given takes injury into account one way or another.  No play, no pay.

Why do people love Jimmy G?

You know how many times he has made it through 16 games?  Once.   Since joining San Fran, he has played, 5, 3, 16, 6, 15, and 10 games.  If you want that, just keep Mike White for way less money.  On a loaded team, Jimmy has barely a 2-1 TD to INT ratio.

I would much rather go Carr, or Gardner than Jimmy.

Ageed, but I think Carr ends up in TB.  Better weather, better O line, better receiving corps, and no state income taxes.

Jimmy G.’s contract should reflect that he only be paid for 10 games, because that is all a team can reasonably expect from him…

JD should not be interested in a QB that is always injured.

JG is the better player when on the field. but yeah... Carr is much more likely to stay on the field.  

As far as Gardner Minshew... I have also suggested that the Jets draft Tanner McKee late in the first round or early in the second with the expectation that he will take some time to train.   Given that, perhaps the lower cost guy, Minshew would be a good option.  Perhaps give him a one year deal if possible and let him start until McKeee is ready.

don’t know the package but I would assume you have to at least consider and review.

Raiders will likely be in play for Jimmy G and Brady. I also think they take a QB to groom in the meantime.

If Jimmy doesn't go to Vegas, ya gotta think us and the Patriots will be the favorites. I'd go all in on Carr personally.

Almost any FA out there would be better than what we have now.

I'm not a believer in MW but here's hoping he proves me wrong in the next 2 weeks.

For just one example if we could get both Jimmy G and MW as starter/backup competition at a reasonable cost I'd be content.  Cost is JD's call, not mine.  A reasonable Carr would be fine with me as well.   Hell, even Baker is an improvement over what we have now.

Tom Brady only makes $25 million per season, and he's the Goat. I just don't see JD putting that kind of money on the QB position unless it is a non-guaranteed contract. And even if the Jets release Lawson, Tomlinson and Davis freeing up $50 million in cap space they still need to replace those players, other players on expiring contracts  and have the money to sign Q long term.
