Trevor Lawrence vs Zach Wilson Was Hard to Watch

Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson

Week Seventeen NFL Thoughts…

        • The Jets offense was simply unwatchable against Jacksonville. The disparity between the overall number one pick Trevor Lawrence and the overall number two pick, Zach Wilson, is growing each week.
        • A once-proud franchise in Denver is in complete disarray. I can’t remember a team that performed so poorly, given such high pre-season expectations.
        • Ed Reed becomes the latest former player to be hired as a head coach with little to no coaching experience. Deion Sanders was very successful at Jackson State, though moving to a division one program will be a bigger challenge. Jeff Saturday hasn’t been able to turn the Colts around in the short term. Saturday, Sanders, and Reed should all be given time before we pass judgment on their ability to lead a team. I’m not so sure this should become a hiring trend, and it appears it is heading that way.
        • It is time to be very worried about Tua Tagovailoa’s
        • I am looking forward to the Buffalo vs Cincinnati game this weekend.
        • I haven’t watched any of the bowl games thus far. I have never watched one before New Year’s Day unless it was one of the playoff games. I don’t think I will ever watch one of these early bowl games. I am not sure why they exist.
        • I don’t think the Packers are very good. I also don’t think any of the contending teams in the NFC want Green Bay in the playoffs.
        • The Jacksonville Jaguars are the fourth seed in the AFC as of today.
        • JJ Watt was fun to watch. When healthy, he was a game-changer and a menace to opposing offenses. I will miss watching him play. He is also, by all accounts, a positive force in the community as well.
        • It will be interesting to see if the Rams see Baker Mayfield as a keeper or if they intend to move him if his play continues to improve. Given how many teams will be looking for a quarterback, it might be hard to keep Mayfield and Stafford on the roster in 2023. Mayfield would be a nice insurance policy for the thirty-four-year-old Stafford.
        • The Jets are third, and the Broncos are fifth in overall defense. Denver has been eliminated, and the Jets are hanging on to their slim playoff hopes. It’s hard to play so poorly on offense that you still can’t win with such solid defenses.
        • Washington is going back to Carson Wentz after losing two straight. It’s a mistake.
        • Only four teams in the league are mathematically eliminated from the postseason with just two games remaining. That is because we have two division leaders with sub-five hundred records.

We never had a chance at lawrence (thanks to our usual late season meaningless win) so no big deal.

We should be pining over all the other QBs in the draft class, none of whom are particularly good.

The Jaguars won the first week of the season, and we were what? 0-11? You can’t say we were never in it. We had it, and gave it away.

When your team rushes for 12 yards, offensive line becomes paper and the QB can't play NFL football it's going to be hard to watch.

I just saw on tv today that the Ravens are 2-1 playing their last 3 games without Lamar Jackson.

They’ve averaged 12 points per game during that stretch.

Ed Reed finally got a coaching job??? Yeeha and hoo ray for him!! I don’t think his ostensible lack of experience will be a problem. He was already coaching other players when he was still playing.
I wonder if he will clean up though.

It sucks but the Jets would have had to go 0-16 to secure Lawrence, but I would have been okay with it.

Right?

We went 2-14. What’s the difference? Jax went 1-15 and they are happy as clams now.

We should’ve fired Gase after 8 or 9 losses if he wasn’t willing to tank, rolled over and played dead. Lawrence was always the big prize that year.

Meanwhile you have the Jags, of all franchises, realizing what’s at stake, and decided to bench Minshew for Mike f*cking Glennon.

The thing the Jets do best is win meaningless December games to F up draft position.

It was infuriating to watch. It’s the main reason why I refuse to give JD the props so many here do.

My guess is he didn’t want to fire Gase so quickly considering that Gase was the primary reason he got the job here in the first place.  And selling an early midseason firing to Woody (who had never previously fired a HC midseason) probably would have proven difficult at that time, too.

Doesn’t make it OK though.

I get all that, but at some point shouldn’t JD (and Woody) realize that a win hurts you more than it helps you. I mean that’s kinda their job, and if they weren’t thinking big picture then, wtf are we wasting our time with this team?

Woody being unwilling to allow a policy of tanking has killed this franchise time and again, yes.

Friggin meddling dumbass.

TL improving at a rate that will have him in top 5 in 2 years. ZW will be out of the league in the same time frame.

He's practically top 5 already.  His performance since week 9 is unmatched.  While coaching and player development matters, it helps to be blessed with the size and talent Lawrence has.   He's also elusive in the sense he rarely ever takes a bad hit.  Because my son has been a Jaguars fan since he was 5 years old I've seen every snap of every Jags game.   With the exception of Mahomes and Burrow, I'd take Lawrence over the others including Herbert and Allen.

Shouldn’t be such a huge gap between QBs selected 1 and 2 overall.

sad

That being said…while I can’t say I’m optimistic about tomorrow’s game, I’m still pumped for it, as we all are.  It’s been a while since we’ve had a game in the month of January that matters.  Chance that NE beats both Miami and Buffalo has to be well under 50%..?

We have more than a “puncher’s chance.”

Trevor is playing better at top of his game and Zach deactivated after terrible games. But not always the case and things could be different in future unless you want to declare Zach finished in the NFL and Lawrence great. Earlier this year Denver beat Jags in close game but Trevor two picks and 133 yards passing, Etienne 156 on the ground. One of those Trevor picks in the last 2 mins of the game. Same season Zach beat Denver no picks 121 yards passing Breece had 72 on the ground.
