What the hell happened?

Hoping your RB does something superhuman is an offensive strategy that doesn't generally last very long.

Saleh is a adherent to the 'keep it close' and hope you can scrape by in the 4th. It will win you about 6-8 games a year which is what I said at the start of this season.

I can’t agree with this. 2020 was horrible but 2021 is hard to judge.  AVT is a stud. Elijah Moore could still be a serviceable WR, and Becton still has a chance to be a decent OT. And 2022 off season was A++. After the crap GMs we have had, this is progress.

The coaching was really substandard down the stretch. Saleh and his merry crew just didn’t have the team ready to play in any of the games. Only exception was a Bears game in which they were down to their backup. Even in that one the defense got off to a slow start.

The Jets have had one opening drive TD all season. They constantly are playing from behind.

Quincy Williams is overrated

Went for the big hit today and whiffed instead of wrapping up

Mosley isn’t getting any younger

This defense needs a talent infusion at LB

And a real free safety

Counting on 30+ always-injured Joyner who hadn’t played football in over a year

This defense never generates a turnover.  Like ever.

Meanwhile NE scores a defensive TD every freaking week.

It’s insane how well prepared Belichick has his defense week to week.

They laid an egg vs CHI.  That was it.

A lot. I’m sure most of what would say will be mentioned but I’ll add the performance after bye week and the mini bye were super disappointing.

I have to think that the players took it too easy or something. Other teams the jets play after extra time off seem to always be a really tough game.

the second cheaters game and Seattle were nightmares. How is that possible?

I’ll also add there is no such thing as “getting figured out “  everyone knows what everyone runs.  outside of the surprise wildcat the dolphins sprang on the cheaters many moons ago there are no surprises

what happens is good coaches develop unique game plans every week tailored to the opponent and conditions and injuries and take from within their system what they think will work

its semantics to an extent but around thanksgiving the good coaches self evaluate for tendencies and break them

MLF is not a good coach by that metric

lastly  the first year was an “investment year “ and this year was a growth year, and the playoffs were not the goal

it’s bizarre to think about but I think Saleh more or less said it and the reason Flacco and Streveler were on the bench today while a very very obviously injured and not himself Mike quite played was to get him these high stakes reps

just a strange weird vibe right now

Saleh didn’t even seem stressed or anything today

You are letting defense and special teams off WAY too easy here.  If a defense is as good as they think they are you do not get run over and they create turnovers.  We created one turnover in the 5 game slide and 0 interceptions.  They are as much to blame as anyone.  Today they come out of the gate and get totally owned in the first two drives.

Not intentionally. I hit them in an earlier thread. I agree, fully. I started this thread on a whim.

2 of the worst drafts in Jet history are back to back Douglas drafts. 2020 and 2021.  2 busts that will be in Jets top 5-7 BUST list.

Becton and Zach.

Imagine getting on that list in just your 1st 2 years

One day, I hope we get to hear all the nonsense tat took place internally this season. The team quit playing like there’s a lot of toxic, political sh*t going on in that building.

Yeah, you get the feel that winning wasn’t the most important thing this year for some folks inside of 1JD and the players picked up on that. Defense didn’t have that same fire although to their credit they still kept these games manageable.

 The circus rolls on..

The season started off with some rocky moments, but Saleh drew scrutiny to himself and created space for the team to gel. It worked.

We were winning with subpar QB play, but it was winning.

Then we lost even more of our our OL and Breece. The subpar QB play turned into a calamity. Saleh seemed to have the internal politics in check and he made a big change at QB. Then the team just started down this path of sloppy play, with horrible protection, drops and penalties all over key moments. Too much for a middling QB to compensate for. Regardless… The team still found a way to rally around Mike White. Then he got hurt.

After that, it was as if the defense threw its hands up and forfeited the season. A team that once looked like it was playing for each other looked like a team that quit today.

The worst thing? The game where we beat the Bills allowed them to figure out where to beat us on offense se and defense… they demo’ed it to the league in our second matchup and we’ve blown the rest of the season by not adjusting at all. Seattle beat us silly today with the same formula.

A pretty good, dispassionate breakdown of the Jets loss yesterday. Starts at 1:03:40.

Bottom line: Seahawks knew Jets base defense (with their three LBs on the field) is bad, so they baited Saleh into using it a lot and Geno killed them with TEs against the sh*tty interior of the Jets defense. Should be noted that this isn’t a thing Geno or the Seahawks normally do—they love to throw the ball to the outside—so Saleh wasn’t ready for it. The TEs running free got Mosley and the safeties on their heels, which opened up the Seahawks running game. Hugely outcoached on defense.

Offensively, Mike White sucked, the offense never fired, and the Jets rushing attack has been in a state of attrition since Denver. An interesting fact that should have been apparent—the Jets are one of the worst running teams in football minus Breece Hall based on EPA and rushing success. Losing Hall (and AVT) turned the Jets into a passing/empty-set team, and they can’t live that way, obviously.

Interesting, worthwhile listen if you woke up today saying what the ****

Hard to pin point the specifics but this is one for the ages.  6-4, bench your #2 overall pick, win the following game vs. another back up and lose out the rest of the season w/ what will be 6 straight losses when they get smoked by Miami?  lmfao. Unprecedented, this has never happened before, ever.  Pure sh*t show and display of utter incompetence that should be a simple decision to fire everyone, now.

My guess; they were feeling themselves, thinking they had it figured out and when players went down and teams started catching up to what the Jets were doing on both sides of the ball, this coaching staff refused to adjust.  Saleh during this stretch showed he's not an NFL HC; terrible personnel decision, terrible game planning, no discipline, terrible in game management, Lil Mikey is tragic and Ulbrich is a frog on a log.  Instead, they learned, they're incompetent boobs out coached by everyone they met down the stretch and the roster is dog sh*t and ultra thin because JD is just another in a long line of failed GM's.  They were figured out, slow LB'ers who cant cover, just get the ball out fast and run it, predictable offense that sucks, they knew every play they called yesterday.

Sadly, I dont think you recover from this as a staff.  They're toast and bringing them back for more is torture to everyone is Jets land.

Loss to Vikings “relax Kevin it’s the Vikings they were good! Berrios fault”

Loss to Bills “relax Kevin the Bills are the best team in the nfl and mike white got hurt!”

Loss to Lions “relax Kevin the lions only made a last 2 minute play, we will get correct against the jaguars”

Loss to Jaguars “ok Kevin that was bad but we got a mini bye for the Seahawks and Zach Wilson was playin!”

Loss to Seahawaks………..

it’s been oddly quiet on the excuse train

The team just isn’t good

It’s pretty simple. QB situation doomed us. And it affected the entire team.

Zach spiraling against NE, should’ve been pulled to at least try to get the W. It was painfully obvious he was struggling and all you needed was what, a FG to win?
Then White gets hurt, so the rest of your inept QBs step in and fumble things away immediately.
Bad coaching takes over in Detroit with the defense and ineptitude with the timeouts.
Zach then continues to not be able to throw the ball vs Jax and it just spirals again.

When you don’t have a QB that can give you just even the basic throws and you’re down to your 4th QB. Sh*t ain’t gonna go well. And then throw poor coaching on top of that. Voila!

After a night of "I need to get away from football and the Jets" I thought about what I saw from Mike White and the Jets offense. I agree with Tom's guy's assessment on that podcast about Mike White, he's not an NFL starting QB,we loved him and hoped he would become one but there's a reason why he was a 5th round draft pick 4 or 5 years ago.

But yesterday, it was obvious that he was affected by the injury and that flak jacket and was only able to really make one completion with his usual fastball speed and that was the one catch that Corey Davis made reaching behind and catching it with his left hand and hip. White had no velocity on his passes yesterday. The guy is obviously still hurt. The sad truth about it all is the Jets had no other QB's on the roster that they could go to.

Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas have been failures with the exception of 1 draft. That 2022 draft probably keeps Douglas employed but as far as this coaching staff goes...they should be gone-all of them. Sean Payton is available and the Johnsons should make a bold move and finally hire a "real" offensive-minded head coach who is NOT an insane and unqualified disaster  like Adam Gase.

If 2008 Favre-led Jets and the team going from 8-3 at Thanksgiving to 9-7 after losing 4 out of the next 5 games and missing the playoffs after a loss to Chad and the Fins and the week before losing in Seattle to the 3-11 Seahawks and not even being able to score a TD - sound familiar? Now if that is enough to make Johnson so mad that he couldn't even sleep and so he wakes Tannenbaum up at 3:00 AM and makes him fire Mangini, well then going from 7-4 to 7-10 and of course, once again MISSING the pucking flayoffs by this measure should be enough to get us PROVEN Super Bowl winning on his resume Offensive-minded Head Coach and a whole new coaching staff, who have the ability to make changes on the fly and one who brings with them a state of the art training staff. Isn't it about time that the Jets have a true NOT 1st or maybe second time head coach and one who isn't another first timer defensive guy who people think deserves a shot at the big time?

The Jets need to Clean House. Get a new OFFENSIVE-minded coach and a new starting QB who is not named Zach or Mike White

Leadership and coaching, its that simple.

All the Mike f'ng White stuff was pure BS. I know everyone ate it up because they hated ZW so much, but that was BS leadership. You basically allowed your entire team to show up a 23 year old rookie, and put the entire blame of a poor offense on one player. Even if it was the case, that is God awful leadership from a football team, and it bit them in the ass, becasue when things didn't go so well without ZW, they couldn't blame him anymore.

Really bad coaching, the clock mgmt in Detroit, the special teams in multiple games, completely inept offensive coaching.

If not for a miracle win against the Browns, and the good fortune of multiple backup QB's this year, this team may have been a 3-4 win team.

Saleh to date has been a bad coach, with a bad offense, and a bad leader

Yup.

A couple key moments in the back half deflated everything…

1. Refusing to bench Zach vs Pats. I mean, how does a locker room not combust after that? I believe yhe over-hyping of MW is entirely tied to Saleh making the team pretend for weeks. Defense threw its hands up mid-season.

2. Giving Buffalo the exact same looks in our second matchup. They reviewed the tape, we clearly did not. Arrogance and or ignorance allowed Buffalo to give the league the script to kill us. Not to mention, letting them manhandle our QB with zero adjustments to protection.

3. MW sugar rush and crash. I think Saleh (for whatever reasons) annointing Zach, but then doing mental gymnastics to downplay MW led to the underdog hysteria… but also created an inordinate amount of pressure for MW to ‘play for his ‘livelihood’. Like, “Hey Mike, we’re not going to back you as our starter, just our starter right now during these precious moments for Zach… and oh, by the way, can you go save our season and jobs and secure your future?”

4. Braxton Berrios dropping a TD versus Minny. In that simple moment you see just how useless he is as a player, it foreshadows all the ****-ups he’s had the past month and it absolutely killed any momentum the team had to launch us into this spiral.
