GRADE JOE DOUGLAS

Recommended Posts

I just look at it this way.  When you royally screw up the quarterback position, your coaching staff and the offensive Line which was supposed to be your specialty, you should be on the hot seat. He gets a pass right now because of the last draft but Douglas should not be secure here at the moment. Personally, it’s going to be hard to trust him fixing these weaknesses but I’m guessing ownership gives him a chance.

He is C at best and I told him that in the rain......(not really but i did the whole Ryan leaf comment)

He's a JAG GM. I love me some Sauce but what idiot with the 4th pick doesn't take Sauce at 4. You dont get to pound your chest for top 10 pick because your team stinks every year.

JD's record = ZERO PLAYOFF APPEARANCEs/Winning season

Fun fact - Mac had at least one winning season. JD still has zero.

You do know Stingley was taken before Sauce.

Without a doubt Joe Douglas had a better off-season in 2022, but when you look at all the moves he's made since joining the Jets it's not that impressive as a whole. It's why we still stink.

2021 is not an F draft. More like C+. It appears he blew the QB, but got AVT, Moore and I still like both Michael Carters.

I give him an F  in 2021 because of the opportunity cost passing up a chance at the 49ers package of draft picks.

That to me was his biggest mistake so far. The package of draft picks he could have gotten was huge to building up this roster.

He blew the #2 pick in the draft on a mega bust QB, that alone makes it an F.
He traded up in the 1st round for a guard, Moore stinks,  and he took a few jags to fill places on  an expansion level roster he created. Yay.

Thank you Joe Douglas, thank you.

C- is his grade.  The hits (Breece, AVT, Sauce) prevent it from being a flat out F from the two massive 1st round busts that are killing this team's chances.  He's been average, or below on free agency as well.  The 2022 draft is the ONLY thing he's got to avoid being fired.

This board has been too forgiving of his busts for the sake of the few good picks.

Brock Purdy, a 5th round draft pick this year, leads the 49ers to a division title.

Kenny Pickett, 20th pick overall this year, has the potential of getting the Steelers into the Playoffs:

Kenny Pickett comes up big in the clutch again, leads Steelers to late win over Ravens (yahoo.com)

And finally, the Tennessee Titans are starting a QB, Joshua Dobbs, who they acquired two weeks ago off of another teams practice squad- in the final game of the season for the potential division title.

Meanwhile the Jets are starting QB's with broken ribs, or throw for 2 yards in a half.

Then there's Joe Flacco, who hasn't done anything during our 5 game losing streak, who could have been replaced back in November. JD completely sh*t the bed with his myopic view of Number 2.

7th round.  He's "Mr. Irrelevant" remember.

And it's more a great team is helping a young game manager QB win games, something we should have been thinking about much of this year here.  Too many fans want all or nothing, Peyton Manning or Tank.  They refuse to see how solid game managers (my example is always Kirk Cousins) can still thrive in this league.

2019 Mid-season Trade/ Acquisition made during or before season

GRADE: F

Claims Kaare Vedvik (Kicker)
Traded Leonard Williams (PRO BOWLER) to the Giants for what would become the great Ashtyn Davis. Thank you, Joe Douglas, Thank you.

Joe Douglas is the Dave Kingman of NFL GM's. He'll hit a HR once in a while, but strike out more often then anything. You left out the signing of Ryan Khalil from your excellent post. The 22 draft was an A, however, the rest of his regime has been miss much more than hit.

I forgot about that signing before the 2019 season! That was definitely a whiff.

I'm done defending JD because it's impossible to at this point.  The only reason I have defended him up to this point is that he's had a good mindset, one that I have agreed with on almost every move, during the draft and FA.  He seems to know when and what needs to be upgraded, instead of ignoring things like Macc w/ the OL and Idzik w/ the DBs (where's Dmitri Patterson?).

The problem is the players he has chosen/signed at needed positions have mostly sucked.  I think Laken Tomlinson is the epitome of the JD regime.  Sign a probowl reserve and watch as he plays like one of the worst guards in football in green black & white.

He gets no credit from for Sauce or Wilson. They were the OBVIOUS picks. Insert any Joe Schmoe fan and they still get those picks right.

Olave was picked before Wilson and Stingley was picked before Sauce. The Olave pick was by the same GM that had that amazing 2017 Saints draft.
So any Joe Schmoe fan could get it right but 2 other NFL GMs couldn’t?

AT THE JETS PICK, The obvious pick was Sauce and Wilson.

Because those other players were obviously gone.

JD didn’t have to pick between Olave and Wilson. There was just Wilson left.

And he didn’t have to pick between Stingley and Sauce. Because only Sauce was left.

Halfway through the season JD was the best GM ever and Saleh was going to keep his job for at least another season, and now JD sucks and Saleh should get fired immediately. It’s amazong what losing does to fan perception.
