Untouchable
No No backups/fringe starters Unless Douglas and Saleh are completely inept, they’ll realize their jobs are very much on the line and swing for the fences on a proven veteran.

What proven veteran are we guaranteed to get who is clearly better than Mayfield? I fear they are going to make all this worse though. I don't think the Jets are only QB away like most. I think they need more/better players at almost every position group except CB. Thats why I do not want a 1 year wonder like Rogers, Jimmy G, Brady, etc... because 2024 we back right where we started 2021 and most likely worse off

But if the higher ups miss out on dudes like Brady, Carr and Garoppolo and have to settle on someone like Mayfield, Minshew, Brissett, Dalton or bringing back Mike White…then I don’t know how the hell anyone could be even remotely excited about watching this team next year. Maybe. I think a few of those guys have the potential to have success with a good team around them. either way, you said swing from the fences for a “proven veteran.” I’m just saying - a guy like Mayfield or Minshew might be the best proven vet we can get. The bigger names will have options and I’m very skeptical they would come here

ScarletKnight89
I think the plan should be to trade Zach Wilson, sign Jimmy G to be the starter, and bring Mike White back to be the backup. They obviously have to be able to find a taker for Zach first.

BigRy56
It’s too bad because I think Baker has a perfect personality to handle NY. He has the right attitude to play QB for the Jets. We’d be his 4th team though and that’s pretty much it. Can’t hitch your wagons to that dude. The only true fit that would allow the Jets to ascend to the playoffs next season is Carr or Jimmy G with the right backup. Brady is off the table and absolutely no way the Jets are trading two 1s (at least) for a 2 year rental of Rodgers. Everybody else is just treading water and hoping to get lucky

Everybody else is just treading water and hoping to get lucky I think it's strange that people assume Baker is a fit for NY. The athletes I thought best handled NY were Jeter, Eli and Curtis Martin. All of them were seemingly introverts that routinely gave boring answers to media questions. I might be wrong on this, I'm just saying I'm surprised that so many people think an extrovert with a big ego is a good fir for NY.

But as we all know he is injured too often. I don’t think this is the ideal plan but reading between the tea leaves front office has hope Zack turns it around with better coaching. Which means, JD won’t be trading premium picks for a QB or handing out massive contracts. They’re going to look for a 2-year bridge QB who can win games. I think given the available options in free agency front office will say “we can a full season worth of starts between Garoppolo and White and that should be enough for the playoffs. Then Zack shows he’s the guy in 2024 or we’re drafting a replacement and still have Garoppolo in 2024.” Again, not ideal at all just what my guess is. I think there is a chance (somehow but I could be wrong) JD survives 2023 if they miss the playoffs…and how desperate the free agency and trade moves are or aren’t this offseason I think will show how hot or cool the GM’s seat is. There were/are “reports” that while JD signed of on Saleh’s hire…he wasn’t the one who necessarily made the final choice and JD was pushing for Doug Pederson. Again, not sure how true any of that is or not.
