What about the packers who are currently out but will make the playoffs if they win this week?

So yeah,  horrible idea unless you are a Seahawks fan

Again, I didn't look at playoff implications.

Furthermore, I am strictly talking about week 17.

It is a universal option that will negatively affect some and positively affect some.

Well that's too bad.  Because the moment the NFL got into bed with it, it became a part of the furniture.  Gambling gets considered in ALL scenarios because it's arguably the # 1 revenue-generator for the league both currently and going forward.

I said on its own.  Completely disregard the part where the games have already been played and outcomes could still stand, for gambling.  Since, Gambling on its own is not the NFL.

A gambler bet on a team.  The outcome was decided, the bet was settled.  No issue if week 17 is canceled. The bookie is covered.

I'm not so sure that would be the case though.  It's got to be more complicated than that.

Why?  The game was played.  The gambling institution is not the NFL.  A bet was made and an outcome determined.

But they're partners now.  So essentially they ARE the same institution.

I can guarantee Vinny two toes on the corner is going to give a ****, and as a former Pit Boss, I can guarantee the Casinos won't either.

A wager was placed for an outcome.  The outcome was determined.  There is no Grey area here.

So here is my proposal.  Throw out all of the week 17 games.  Every team reverts to its record at the end of week 16.  We are still are 7-8 and a win over Miami this week could get us in.

Who says no?

The Patriots, Seahawks, Lions, Jaguars, Giants, Packers, Steelers all say no, but who cares about them?

Funny thing is Jets played all but one of those teams

Well, if they are willing to do all of that, then I agree, that would be the fairest solution.

That would change things dramatically, though. Everyone gets a bye week and now the #1 seed gets two full weeks off, which could actually be looked at as a disadvantage.

I'll be very curious to see what they do.

For a team like Philly, it could mean that Hurts has only played once in 5 weeks by the time their first playoff game rolls round. Seems like that could have more downside than upside for them.

First, and most importantly, prayers for health of Damar. This is horrible and I hope for his full recovery.

But, what happens now? I've never heard of a game being cancelled due to injury. As other have mentioned, the NFL is in bed with all the sports books now. I saw that I got refunded for the couple bucks I put on Buffalo. Are they doing that across the board for all wagers? Most fantasy league championships were this weekend. Are all those leagues a draw now?

None or this matters in the slightest compared to Damar's well being. But, as already mentioned, the NFLs brand and partnerships extend far past the football field these days and many businesses are intertwined with their games. This is pretty unprecedented (to my knowledge) and comes at a time when many, many outside entities and businesses are partnered with the NFL. I'll be very interested to see how all of this plays out.

Good point. I didn't even think of that. That alone makes this scenario very unlikely to me.

Move both the Bills and Bengals games to Friday or Saturday this week then they play their game Wednesday and then whichever or if both teams have to play on wild card weekend they play Tuesday night instead of Monday night.

This is all on the condition this did lives if he doesn’t I don’t have a clue what to do, the Bills might not be able to compose themselves to accommodate anything the league wants and so be it.

They already said the game will not be resumed this week, but yea, it's just a terrible situation.

If it happened because of the hit, how doesn’t it happen like once a week?

because rare outcomes happen sometimes....RARELY (hence why they are called rare) but there is a non zero chance that these things can happen. and....wouldn't you know it??? on rare occasions THEY DO!! it's a sad outcome, that thankfully RARELY happens.

Yeah thank god but can you be more specific about the number of hits to the chest nfl players have taken since the inception of the nfl 102 years ago the odds of this occurring and how many times it’s happened? also give me the NCAA numbers as well if you could.

If you can tell me what rare means too that would be great is that like, seldom or occasionally, bruh? Like I file my taxes once a year, is that RARE?

I appreciate the help, I do.

We still dont know the exact cause of what happened. Commotio cordis normally causes to the person drop immediately. He stood up and then adjusted his helmet, so very unusual. Maybe this is a Hank Gathers situation (basketball player who just dropped while running down the court). Perhaps Hamlin had some undiagnosed congenital abnormality. Regardlesss, the nfl has existed for over 50 years and this is the first time anyone can recall something like this happening. So yes, it is incredibly rare.

It’s not the first time at all. Stop with this nonsense.

Chuck Hughes for the Lions died of a heart attack on the field in 1971.

Thomas Herrion for the 49ers collapsed an died after a preseason game in 2005z

NHL player Chris Pronger’s heart stopped during a game in 1998 after being hit in the chest with a puck. Similar situation to this.

Several soccer players have collapsed due to cardiac arrest in my lifetime - Marc-Vivien Foe died in 2003. Fabrice Muamba (2012) and Christian Eriksen (2021) survived.

It‘s rare but it’s not nearly as rare as some are making out.

I think we all agree it is rare for 24 yr old professional athlete to have his heart stop beating while in the middle of playing a football game, yes????

I think we can all agree this tread is currently for acknowledging it happen this time to this young man and so we can monitor  it and support one another as a community and hope he comes through it.

At least that’s  what the terrific moderators of this site have stated.  Pretty sure any further debate about it could fit into numerous other sites on the vast cesspool dubbed social media.

This statement feels a little misleading when a crucial component, such as, a blow to the chest is not mentioned.
