While it's typically considered all but a formality for senior finalists, it's still not yet official for Klecko, as his situation is still the same as it was months ago, given the votes haven't yet been cast.  Today's only news was about narrowing down to the finalists from the "regular" candidate pool, but the voting for everyone doesn't happen until around the Super Bowl.

Of course history says it's all but a guarantee for Klecko, but this is still the Jets we're talking about, so let's assume nothing.

It’s not the Jets. He’s a convicted felon. That’s why he never got in. Maybe they’ve changed their rules.

While not convicted, Ray Lewis murdered someone and got put in the HOF.

Joe Klecko committed insurance fraud, I think he'll be ok.

I hope so, but that conviction is the reason he hasn’t been in yet.

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong with this cursed franchise. Keep your fingers crossed for Klecko.

Two known murderers in the HOF. One voted in after the murder, the league let him play for years, and they put his mug on TV after his retirement. The other was subject of the country’s most famous murder trial. Yet despite today’s cancel culture, OJ wasn’t kicked out of the HOF. If the rationale is that was separate from what he did on the field, then what’s good for the goose/juice…

As though the league is otherwise filled with upstanding men who never committed a crime. Over time, how many girls were probably gang raped or beat up in how many hotel rooms by current NFL HOFers?

What hypocrites.

Joe's nephew played on my son's travel team. Joe's sister was convinced they would never give Joe a shot because of that conviction. Felt he was blackballed.

I thought "Blackballed/Blacklisted" usually implied an innocent being banned from consideration. Joe's crime was nothing compared to the alleged crimes of OJ and Lewis.   Problem was he was convicted.

He deserves to be inducted. Period.

His conviction would not be an issue if he took the deal and testified against others. He would have either been an unindicted co-conspirator or plead to a minor charge with a slap on the wrist. But, that is not who Joe Klecko is. And. frankly, it elevates him even more in my book.

As an aside, I have a friend who worked at the prison camp where Klecko served his time. He said Klecko was the strongest man he has ever seen. On work crews he would handle 50lbs bags like they were filled with popcorn, and could he hit a softball farther than you would think humanly possible.

I've wondered if there were was a belief by the voters that Klecko roided back in the day like Lyle Alzado, and that might have kept him out.  But, I've never read any serious article saying that, so maybe it is just the fraud conviction.

It's not like he's Lenny Dykstra!

Yes, they voted against (more specifically not for not for) because of his fraud case. As well he perjured himself.

Yes, nothing like what OJ did, of course.

Football does not care about that. Unlike the persnickety baseball writers.

Cant be sure if RL was the guy behind the knife.  At worst, he was a murderer.  At best, he covered for a murderer.

Either is still 10x worse than anything Klecko did lol.

100 % agree.

Any chance Gastineau ever gets a mention for HOF ???  He was the most skilled pass rushing DE evert to take the field.  He was also a personality/character.

Who knows? To me it doesnt seem like even the Jets really get behind him, so why would the rest of the NFL?

The Jets at least inducted him into the circle of excellence.  I remember being at that game when he made a speech at half time.  The neurological issues were already apparent.  Odd that some media figures get support and understanding regardless of past questionable behavior and others will never get a break even if they reform.
