Saleh - "We'll definitely hire a senior offensive assistant"

Listening to the press conference I am not sure LaFleur staying is a done deal. I think Saleh wants that and he has a plan with a "senior assistant" but I am thinking he will still need to convince Woody and not sure that has happened yet

Just our luck, why couldn’t Saleh be friends with higher achievers?  :(

Saleh was just on the Kay show and when asked about MLF coming back, would only say we are evaluating everyone on the staff. Not a huge vote of confidence.

The team didn’t score a touchdown for 12 straight quarters to close out the year. LaFleur didn’t even try, really.

He schemed TDs in 2021 to overcome a lack of talent. It was clear as day and kind of impressive.

For a guy w/a known penchant for creativity, he didn’t even try to generate offense the final 3 games. It was clear as day. Methinks he actually wants out. He left no doubt at the end.

however, in most business, when you run your business poorly, you lose money, he can run it poorly, and still make a lot of $$

The Jets hire people who have no qualms half assing things because it’s a way to accumulate wealth with little pressure. Eventually Woody moves on, but this is a great stop in the road for coaches. 3 years of the same staff it looks like, minus Austin who’s suspended. Saleh is making obscene money and brought his friends along with him. No different than some of the nonsense Gase was spouting.

Bottom line - Saleh’s soft.  Not the type of guy I want coaching my team.

Wholeheartedly agree! This is not the archetype of a coach that I want to teach and mold a young team. This team under Saleh has lacked discipline (which has been painfully obvious all season with the many back breaking, game changing, ridiculous penalties) and there is very little to no accountability for poor play. I am not a big fan of coaches that coddle players and that try to be "buddies" with them.

Poor play has to be signaled out in no uncertain terms and there has to be consequences for if poor play doesn't improve. Same goes for the coaching staff.  The Jets have been notorious for years for taking a year or more too long to recognize and attempt to correct the shortcomings of the team in the locker room, the coaches room, and in the front office.

“7-4 wasn’t a mirage”

BS really loves selling his snake oil

Just like JD told us the late season push by Gase his 1st year “wasn’t a fluke”

It would seem that tailoring a coaching staff to protect the brittle feelings of you weak-fish young quarterback was a mistake.

or your weak fish OC...hopping mad up and down like Yosemite Sam when nobody listens to him or questions his genius.

Gase took the Johnson’s money for two years and now can live comfortably coaching high school.

What does this mean “quiet the room”. Was cavanaugh at milfy’s throat?  Saleh keeps talking about making decisions with his staff but when his boy gets confronted he protects him? Let milfy take it. He’s a big boy.

I think it means that Cavanaugh was mean to Zach and LaFleur. He’s old school.

"Quietening the room" - surrounding yourself with inexperienced colleagues, who lacked the authority to push back and demand accountability - was for Saleh's benefit, not Wilson.

Same thing happened in Denver with Hackett.

Exactly - every dumb thing they were doing was getting called out.  So what does he do? eliminate the noise.

Miles Austin playing golf all season seems to be a theme. Cavanaugh was around during the Rex years. Not exactly a buttoned up regime, but there were some serious professionals on that staff.

Any contending teams ever talk about stuff like this? Hiring extra coaches to fill gaps that current coaches should be handling? And these aren’t just consultant-level roles. This is, sadly, when you know a coaching staff isn’t for real. We’re wasting our time.

2023 already shaping up to be another wasted, lame-duck season. We'll be discussing which low-priced, unexperienced coordinator Woody will hire as the HC to start over again in exactly one year.

He also made it seem like injuries were the biggest issue why they couldnt get anything going on offense, so I assume this will be their answer and Lil Mikey will be coming back as OC, which is just so neat.

That's because that IS the main reason for the struggles on offense the 2nd half of the season........Come on.  Becton, Hall, AVT, Fant, Mitchell, Brown (played injured the entire season), Herbig, White, Wilson, Davis.....

Saleh is basically saying he’s going to make the minimal amount of changes necessary to keep his job, and hope that 1) the return of everyone from injury, 2) another good draft and hopefully FA, and 3) the veteran qb they grossly overpay, will in aggregate make the offense and MLF look much better
