Lafluer has been fired.  They just have to figure out how they are going to make the announcement and dress it up.

Hes gone though.  Will be official shortly.

You are actually wrong... He is not getting fired... They will bring in a senior advisor which. Will slightly demote MLF.... Saleh is convincing Woody that this is the better option

To me, the problem with the Jets’ offense is not necessarily MLF as OC.  It is their entire offensive scheme, coaching and player development.   Too many odd things have happened over the past two years, and particularly a relatively new OC would have limited input.  The offensive staff does not work.  MLF could be and will be better on a different staff.

Creation of that staff is on Saleh as HC, and JD as GM, not necessarily MLF.

And the question now is how you fix it?

You bring in Kubiak as a designer to the play book... To fit the personnel that they have

MLF major problem was once they figured out his scheme he didn't know what to Do. He called plays but got stuck because he had been figured out...

The next problem is none of the QBs did well reading the defenses.

The OL also gave them little time to develop the larger plays... But most of them are designed for the QB to hold on to the ball too long... So defenses keyed on under routes and nobody made them pay.

MLF deserves the AX but at the same time imagine this scenario...

Your a mid level manager at work and your boss sends you a new employee. New employee is terrible and your sales fall because of it. Boss wants you to keep trying with new employee because he comes from a real good business school and top recruit for the company. Employee continues to fail as does your team.

Boss calls you in to CEO office. CEO fires you. Boss just stands besides CEO with blank stare. Employee still retained.

You - MLF

Boss - JD

CEO - Woody

Employee - Zach Wilson

In some ways MLF did get screwed.....but this is a business.

Don't you think that's a critical skill that a team's existing OC should already possess, let alone implement well?

If our OC has no such skill or is so incapable that his boss has to un-retire a former OC to be his "Senior Assistant", whatever that means, to hold his hand as he learns I guess, then why keep him here at all?  It's ridiculous and it's embarrassing to pretend he is good at his job.

Let’s flash back to Saleh’s interview:

Jets:  What are you thinking about staff?

Saleh:  For DC I like Ulbrich.   Did a good job with the Falcons and knows the system I want to implement.

Jets:  That sounds good.  What about special teams?

Saleh:  That guy Boyer looks ok, and we save money not having to fire him.

Jets:   We like your thinking.  You think like one of us.  But what about offense?  We have a struggling QB whose 5th year option needs to be decided on, and we would like to reboot a QB rookie contract.  We will need solid offensive coaching.

Saleh:  I have the perfect guy.  Mikey.  Mike Lafleur.  He coaches with the 49ers and knows the Shanahan system.   Mike McDonald may be smarter, but I am best friends with Mikey’s brother.   We should get him.

Jets:  Will you be able to supervise and evaluate Mikey objectively?

Saleh:  Why would I have to do that?

Jets:  Ok.  I am sure he will be great.  Who is going to develop the QB.

Saleh:  Mikey does not really do that.  He never played QB.  We will bring in Greg Knapp to be the QB coach.  He did wonders with Jamarcus Russell.

Jets:  What happens if Knapp does not join the staff?

Saleh:  We save money and figure it out.

-WHY THE OFFENSE WAS BAD-

And generalizations like this is exactly why old-fashioned "all fault falls on the players" staffs for the most part wind up unsuccessful.

There are coaches out there who generate more offense with far less talent. Joshua Dobbs and David Blough were signed off other team's practice squads in December yet were more effective than any of our QBs were in weeks 17-19. Baker Mayfield was claimed off waivers 48 hours prior to playing in a game with a new team yet was more productive than any of our QBs for most of the season. Add Nick Mullens, Sam Howell, Jeff Driskel, Nathan Peterman, Jarrett Stidham, Sam Ehlinger, and Desmond Ridder to the list of QBs who out-produced our QBs in the final 3 weeks of the season. The question is why?

If the coaches say "well our QBs suck", then whose fault is that? You were out parading how you felt you had "3 starting QBs" since last year and comparing Zach Wilson to the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, yet never made a peep about needing another QB (mind you Jimmy Garoppolo was available and not a single member of the coaching staff raised their hand to say we can use this guy) so what gives?
