Saleh hired his best friend. Saleh was more interested in keeping his buddy around rather than having a talented coordinator who could utilize the strengths of his players instead of being rigidly beholden to a system that wasn't working.

makes sense seeing how too many douglas draft picks weren't utilized

it would be nice. However, if the FO goes into this season relying on him rather than having a top notch alternative, they're making a grossly incompetent error.

they still have Brown who prob wont be available until after the 1q of season if he doesnt retire.  If Becton goes down with injury AVT was more than capable to be LT too.  So what you need is someone to compete with Max to be swing,

This must be what JD meant by “difficult conversations”.

But the one that really needs to be had is why he fell in love with Kapono.  How could a whiff like that happen at #2 overall?

It happens ALL the time in the NFL at the QB position in the first round.

Says there was a disconnect between the FO and Saleh on MLF. Douglas and company wanted to move on from him and Saleh wanted to give him another chance. They feel MLF is not flexible with the players he needs to succeed. He needs very specific players to do certain things and that leaves a small margin of error.

Man this shit is just like “ Old  Yellar”

Welcome to corporate America.  Every business does this.

To be fair; You have a top ten defense that in 5 of the nine losses held the opponent to under 20 points, and you don't score a TD in the final three games of the year.

That's a pretty EASY scapegoat.

I've been in corporate America my entire life. Usually upper management is held responsible for failures in performance

But Woody Johnson was handed everything in his life so he may have never learned that is how its supposed to work

Ok, well these kinds of takes are fine and everything but completely oversimplify things.

The idea that Saleh just wanted to keep his buddy around sounds completely ludicrous.

Obviously Saleh felt MLF was a very talented coordinator and they would be on the same page as far as the direction of the team and the offensive scheme.

Obviously Saleh had a lot of trust in MLF and his abilities.

I think Saleh was also not blind to the absurdity at the QB position this year. The horrendous suckage of Wilson and Flacco. The fragility of Mike White.

I'm a big fan of JD, one of the best GMs we have had here in a long time. But one position he royally screwed up this year was QB. THE most important positions on the team. So if I'm Saleh, to sit there and listen to JD call for MLF's head must be infuriating.

All things considering it makes sense that Saleh went to bat for MLF. And it seems silly to assume that he did it just because he 'wanted his buddy around'.

He probably said what many of us said on this board- give him a half-way decent QB and everything will change.

Douglas green lit these hires 2 years ago.

Becton should be OT4, at the highest, on the depth chart going into training camp. If not, something has gone wrong.

I mean nobody took a jump on offense. Players only took steps back - Mims, Moore, Carter.

I am not sure the idea that Moore took a step back is fair.  He was having an excellent year before Wilson came back from injury.  He basically fell off a cliff and asked to be traded because Wilson wasn't targeting him.  He had 7 games over 40 yards.  Only 2 were with WIlson.  When you consider that Wilson started 9 games and the other 2 started 8 that is pretty damning.  When you consider that in 2021 he had 7 games over 40 yards and 4 were with QBs other than Wilson - literally ever game started by a QB other than Wilson - it does not seem like LaFleur is the issue there.  I know 40 yards doesn't sound like much but that is a 680 yard season and some of those games (140 for Flacco against Miami) really could push him up.

This is massively problematic but, also, the sort of thing that could’ve been worked thru with an Assistant HC/Offense added to the staff. I will say that adaptability is one of the more important features I look for in a coach, though. Otherwise it’s like the Brady Bunch movies where all of Mike’s designs look like their house.

Some players played so bad they were cut. Then they went on to play productively for other teams. It happened on defense too. I dont buy into the whole Robert Saleh makes players fit thing. Pinnock played well this year and we could have used a FS

Garret Wilson

Breece Hall (pre injury)

Bam Knight

Knight took a step ahead and then a step back. Gwilson is a baller and he always wanted to be out there. Plus he was the only receiver that was reliable. Breeze hall? Great start but his production depends on the online and it got worse.  And don’t forget lafleur coaches the whole offense including the oline.

Pinnock is who you want to point to?  A project corner they moved to safety and tried to stash on the practice squad?  I would say with the way the D performed you shouldn't complain.  They kept Adams over him which is what everybody complained about.  Adams played a decent number of snaps the last couple of weeks with Joyner down and looked pretty solid to me.
