Rumor: Robert Saleh & Co. Would Like An OC With An Offensive Line Background

I found this pretty interesting. We know our luck in the last 5 years when it's come to offensive line health has been atrocious. We also know the majority of the resources we've poured into this unit that has not worked out for us as well. Where this is true or not I don't think matters a ton since we also still need an o-line coach as well and don't know anyone off the top of my head that fits the mold. What are you looking for most out of next OC (i.e. great playcalling, player development, strategist, etc.)?

I don't care if it comes in a coordinator role if he outright takes Benton's role but having Bill Callahan back in the building would be tremendous. Special shoutout to if they bring on Nick Mangold as an intern/assistant to learn under him and take the lead whenever Callahan moves on. AS for the OC, there's so many names I have to run through...

Greg Olson - Senior Offensive Assistant

 - OC for Derek Carr

 - Was Senior Offensive Assistant under McVay, could help understand some strengths/weaknesses of players from a similar Shanahan type system.

 - This pairing would also bode well in the emergency situation we want to work something out for Stafford (not advisable with back, but an option)

Darrell Bevell - Offensive Coordinator

 - Vikings OC when they drafted Adrian Peterson

 - Seahawks OC (overlap with Saleh) when they traded for Marshawn Lynch

 - Credited with scouting and developing Russell Wilson

 - Credited with Tua's turn around

 - Has worked with "Gunslinger" type QBs - Favre, Stafford, Jackson, Wilson

 - Called the play to pass on goal line of SB instead of rushing with Lynch. Speculation is that the regime wanted Wilson to be the one to win the SB as there was a pretty good divide in that locker room at the time.

Callahan and/ or munchak.

these are not only OL experience but former HC

if they get either man it means 1) woody isn't cheap, because these guys each make more than a million 2) saleh is on notice because either could be (and has been in the past) an interim HC

then grab him now with a quickness Best OL coach in the game IMHO and can easily double as OC

Also former Raiders OC and HC, Cowboys OC, and Former Nebraska HC. We would run a WCO similar to the one Gruden ran, I would pair him with someone who can coordinate the passing game and work with the QBs

Would love it but I doubt it. Callahan with the daisys on this roster would be a mess.

calahan

I was just about to post this guy. Wasn’t he asst head coach offense when he was last with the jets? He also has some head coaching experience.  I don’t think play calling is the major criteria in the position. To me the oc needs to prepare the team and make sure they execute the play that is called.

Chris Morgan, Bears offensive line coach

Morgan also has played a key role in developing the Bears offense into the most imposing rushing attack in the league. Although unknown to outsiders, he has begun developing a strong reputation in NFL coaching circles. In addition to the rushing success in his first season with the Bears, Morgan coached under Kyle Shanahan in Washington and Atlanta, and played a role in the playoff runs of both teams. Morgan is expected to receive interest for offensive coordinator positions this offseason.

Not sure how this is rumor?

Saleh is a D guy who is also run focused.  Really hard to run without a O line.
