Hiring Hackett would completely enrage me and probably result in a prison sentence.

The brilliant idea was to fire Lafleur with any concrete idea what the alternatives might be. There was no thinking this all through. RWetaining Lafleur would have been proferabelt to this new game of musical chais. whe  the music stops, youe can be assured the jets don't have a chair. they'll end up with who ever is left to take their $. Like Nat Hackett.

Not good.

Think about it.  It would lower expectations so much and worry so many folks that whoever they end up hiring would seem like such a good choice!

Win win.

Ah so pull out a psy-op?

I dont think JD and Saleh are that smart lol.

Rodgers just said he wouldn't be part of a rebuild

the Jets are better than they were last year but they aren't a contender

Rodgers paired with our defense makes the Jets a contender next year.  The Jets have enough at the skill positions with Garret Wilson, Breece Hall. and competent tight ends.  We could upgrade the OL in the offseason and be legit Superbowl contenders with Rodgers at QB

I still think the Jets should troll the fanbase by bringing in Gase for an interview.  The entertainment value would be through the roof.  A twitter sensation!

They should bring him in as “opening drive coordinator!” He was nails, Darnold  and the offense would look amazing on the first drive and then be garbage the rest of the game!

that would be actually the worst possible guy in football they could bring in-bringing in a guy worse than the guy you just fired(who was not good himself)

his offenses were terrible.

the broncos were a total trainwreck with him-they have talent too even if you think russ is washed

hard pass on this hire

this hire would be an atrocity

which makes me believe they are going to do it

it's a very Jets move to go back to the Hackett well. poetry, really.

Hackett interviewing today. People with the Jets did not get the sense from agents that he would seek an offensive coordinator position right away but could be convinced to take on a coaching position. We’ll see where this one goes

As far as Reich, he’s focused on HC opportunities only right now

Hackett & Marrone could be a package deal?

Another way of saying this is the Jets have a bad OL and have to face BUF, NE and MIA twice a year.

There is no perfect team or situation that Rodgers will step into if he leaves Green Bay.  If the Jets targeted Rodgers, it would be a clear sign of us "going for it" over the next 2 years.  That means investments into the OL and additional playmakers in the short term to give us the best chance to win in the Rodgers 2 year window.

There aren't many other teams with a QB need and a ready made defense with young playmakers like the Jets.  I would venture to say we would be one of the more enticing opportunities for a QB looking to switch teams and win now

"SB contender" would be correct in the media and would lead to a 10 win season which would be a lot better then what we have experienced.  But do you really think taking on his salary and paying multiple firsts will result in him suddenly putting this team on his back and beating the bills or chiefs in the playoffs?  Has there ever been a QB with more talent who has disappointed in the playoffs as much as rogers?

Every word out of his mouth is about himself and not the team.  There is a far greater chance of him being russel wilson 2.0 - both from a performance and locker room perspective then there is him suddenly re-inventing himself as a leader and betting Mahomes in the AFC Championship game

As long as

Ranking Jets' 10 best Zach Wilson replacements as team moves on

is the QB1, we are not getting anybody worth a dam^.

Why would anyone want that obstacle?

Stop the gratuitous bashing please.  :(  It's already carved in stone that we're going to pay up for someone better.

He has been heavily involved in game planning and play design over the past few years, but his responsibilities were more clearly defined under McDaniels. Overall sentiment is that the way BB built the offense this year was too disjointed with no clear message or direction on who would do what, which is probably why the lacked a cohesive identity as an offense. Given how much power Matt Patricia has within that organization, it put Caley in an awkward position to try and fend him off as the primary voice on offense without stepping on his toes, hence the collaborative effort between he, Patricia, and Judge. Patricia became the de facto run game coordinator/play caller, Judge the pass game coordinator, and Caley ended up supporting role instead of an oversight role.

I can't get into Caley's head, but the fact that he declined an extension and opted to be a coaching FA speaks volumes... I would guess he was rubbed the wrong way when NE blocked him from another opportunity while failing to outright promote him. It seems like NE is going out of their way to avoid this situation again given how they went out of their way to announce that they will be hiring an OC and are working on an extension with long-term assistant Jerod Mayo.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero

The #Patriots are interviewing their TE coach Nick Caley for their offensive coordinator job today, per source. Caley also interviewed for the #Jets OC job Tuesday. A valued young assistant.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

The #Patriots have requested permission to speak with #Vikings WRs coach Keenan McCardell for their OC position, sources say. He joins a growing list of candidates that also includes #Bama OC Bill O'Brien.

None of that makes sense for this team. Marrone also fired Hackett in Jax.

Every QB we could acquire this offseason has warts.  But, IMO if you look objectively at each of the options, Aaron Rodgers is the guy most likely to be able to lead us to a SuperBowl.  He was an MVP just last year, and even after posting a subpar season without any real receivers, he still had 3700 yards, 26 TDs 12 INT and a 65% completion percentage.  The biggest factor for me is his ability to limit turnovers.  He has 12(!!!) FULL SEASONS where he threw less than 10 interceptions and a ridiculous career TD-INT ratio of 4.7-1

I just don't see a better option out there.  Based on how his contract is structured, any trade is likely to occur after June 1st meaning that any draft capital traded would be for the 2024 draft.  We could use our picks this year to continue to build out the offensive line, playmakers, and holes on defense.  I also think there could be Green Bay free agents that follow Rodgers here for a shot at a ring (Bakhtieri, Lazard, etc.)

Hackett would be disastrous and is not far enough removed from the LeFleurs. He was basically the OC for the Bronco's and failed to capitalize on the strengths of an offensive unit that was more talented than the Jets. Seriously, the Bronco's were better than the Jets at just about every offensive position and their offense was historically bad.
