I wonder which OC job is more attractive the jets or the one with justin Herbert.

But he is 25-24 for his career and hasn't won a playoff game and was QB of a team who just recently blew a gigantic lead...I have it on authority from people hear that stats like that means he's terrible....

Staley is probably on just a hot of a seat as Saleh...in fact, it may be hotter.  If I were an OC, I would be hesitant about both jobs due to the potential complete regime change at the end of 2023.

Fair but still much easier to look competent with a qb.  The jets are interviewing candidates with no idea who the 1st or 2nd string qbs will be.

There were rumors he could get the axe this year.
if  Salehs getting fired it won’t be until 2024.

Lombardi is interesting - Sean Payton coaching tree?

I feel like dude is being scapegoated after a defensive collapse, but does anyone know anything specific about Lombardi and his scheme?

Justin Herbert was 29th in the league in throws over 20 yards.  Since 2021 Herbert is 31st in air yards per attempt.  I would not hire Joe Lombardi in any way - he literally saw a 6'5 QB who had a cannon arm and decided to run an offense with the most short throws in the league.  Its unexplainable

These young west coast system guys are like analytics nerds they are inflexable and married to a system....the ones that are successful like Mcvay and Shanahan are capable of adjusting.

The Jets are now competitive with the Chargers for the best OC team.   The Chargers are another troubled organization, but they scout better than the Jets do, and they have a potential FQB.  The Jets lose that battle.

The next move here is for JD to fire Saleh and get first in line for the offensive mind who needs to be HC.

As I watched the Chargers blow the lead against the Jags, I realized that the Chargers are the AFCs version of the Minnesota Vikings - Rarely terrible, often a playoff contender and almost always underachieving compared to the talent in the room for .... (pondering how long) .... decades.

I am not going to say it is impossible for a defensive coach to be a successful HC.

I am going to say that it is pretty difficult.

I think it may be impossible for a defensive HC, particularly a first time HC, to develop a QB.

If the GOAT HC Bill Bellichick can’t put an offensive scheme and staff together, how is Robert Saleh or Brandon Staley supposed to do that?  They are over their heads.
