It stabilizes the franchise at the most important positron for a couple of years and that's what the Jets need badly right now. I don't think anything is off the table knowing that JD and Salehs job is on the line.

Warfish
All this Rodgers bs is the Jetsiest of Jetsy Jetsyness. Sure, our GM who doesn’t make big splashy FA moves will be all about it, our Owner you say is cheap will be handing out all the cash for him, the over the hill HOFer isn’t actually on the downside of his career, he won’t cost what everyone thinks he’ll cost to acquire, and he won’t need as much cap space as everyone thinks he’ll take up. And of all possible landing spots, the Jets are where he’ll want to go, lol…… Right, sure. And then Zach Wilson will turn it all around under the mentorship of Rodgers, who has never mentored anyone, and will be back on track for that Allen-like turnaround and future HoF bust many of you already had kitted out for him…….. Tots realistic. Sure thing. 1

I also can’t help but think of the Favre move I'm not buying into this Rodgers to Jets nonsense at all. That being said, I would be ecstatic if it happens, and I'm looking directly at the Favre move for inspiration. Favre had this team at 8-3, coming off of beating the Pats in Foxboro and beating a 10-0 Titans team in Tennessee. I think we were #2 in the AFC at that point, and pretty sure he was in the top 5 for passing TDs. Pretty sure he threw 6tds in one game for us too. We were averaging 30 ppg. And he was 38 years old and didn't even want to be here. To further solidify that he could still play, he went on to have one of his best non MVP years for the Vikings the very next year. That he got hurt and played poorly down the stretch because of it sucks. Unfortunately, we didn't have anyone behind him who could take over and be better than his injured version. His injury cost us a chance at a special season for sure, but the revisionist history around here for the Favre experiment needs to be checked. If Aaron Rodgers were to come here, it would be more exciting than anything that has happened to this franchise since the 2010 divisional game upset of the pats. And similar to Favre, short of injury, he'd bring top-end level QBing for his duration here.

I'm not sure how they make that work https://overthecap.com/the-salary-cap-impact-of-trading-for-aaron-rodgers Quote A team that acquires Rodgers (or the Packers if they keep him) has the option to pay Rodgers 2023 salary as a $1.165 million base salary and a $58.3 million option bonus. For salary cap purposes that option bonus is prorated across four years for a charge of $14.575 million per year. In 2024 the team has another option that allows them to split the salary up as $2.25 million in base salary and a $47 million option bonus, which for cap purposes would be prorated over three years at a charge of $15.666 million per year. Quote Here is the breakdown of how the trade would look on the salary cap assuming that both options are exercised and he is traded before the workout period this year: Year Base Salary Option 1 Option 2 Roster Bonus Workout Bonus Salary Cap Charge 2023 $1,165,000 $14,575,000 $0 $0 $50,000 $15,790,000 2024 $2,250,000 $14,575,000 $15,666,666 $0 $50,000 $32,541,666 2025 $15,850,000 $14,575,000 $15,666,666 $5,000,000 $50,000 $51,141,666 2026 $10,000,000 $14,575,000 $15,666,668 $5,000,000 $50,000 $45,251,668 As you can see the salary cap charges are very resonable for the 2023 and 2024 season and low enough in 2023 where arguably any team in the NFL could trade for him and absorb that hit.

All fair, but I have my doubts about the “top-end level Qbing” you speak of. the big issue I have with Rodgers is that he’s coming off a down year at age 39 and has already talked about retirement. How many guys have a bounce back year at age 40? people will bring up Brady, but when Brady was 39, he was talking about wanting to play until age 45 and people were laughing at him. Rodgers is already talking about retirement at 39 . . . athletes tend to lose their superpowers suddenly and I just always worry about this franchise bringing in guys who are past their prime.
