Most of my favorites were not the most beloved Jets -  the Dominator, Jerry Holmes, Little Eddie Bell, Derrick Gaffney

I really liked Eddie Bell back in the day.  He was too small for that era but would be a great slot WR today

The question isn't being answered correctly by many.  The question ISN'T what are YOUR favorite four players.  the question is...Which 4 players make up the Jets fans Mt. Rushmore of most widely loved and admired former players?  Whether you were alive or not, Namath without question should be number 1...he's the face of the franchise like it or not.

I'm answering it correctly, and to me, Al Toon was more loved than Wayne Chrebet.   I loved Toon, and I loved Walker.  Older fans would love Maynard and or Sauer, both of whom were instrumental on the SB team.

Probably, maybe Maynard for the old timers too?  Like, I wasnt around for Namath or Maynard, so neither would be on my list but I'd imagine those old enough would have both.

Mine is the same as this just sub Mangold for Namath.

My honorable mentions would be;

DBrick, Al Toon, Wesley Walker, Bruce Harper, Bilal Powell, Jericho Cotchery, David Harris, Mo Lewis, Marvin Jones (you cant have my wife), Aaron Glenn, Brad Smith.

I would have Revis and Ellis on here but they are traitors.

Mo Lewis ushered in the tormentor so scratch him off!

Feel like the old heads here would fight against Revis being on the Mt Rushmore. I think he’s there. Got to include someone from 2009-10 given that was one of the best teams in Jets history.

It's a beloved list, not a best list. Revis is not making any beloved lists that is limited to a handful of players.

Mine: Namath, Klecko, Walker and Toon.

and there are so many honorable mentions I can add to the above: Byrd, Shuler, McNeil, Chrebet, the rest of the Sack Exchange, Glenn, Brick and Mangold....

This would look an awful lot like my list.  Maybe Wesley Walker instead of Chrebet for me, but its close.  Loved them both, but I probably would give the edge to Walker.

Yea Chrebet got the nod for me because of my age. He was my idol growing up.

I thought it was:

Brett Ratliff

Matt Simms

Greg McElroy

Erik Ainge

With the last one, they'd have to keep reapplying the sideline or yard-line markings.

Too bad they didn't have Ainge around in the late 90s. Then he'd have Hoovered it right up & O'Donnell wouldn't have tripped on that powder in pregame warmups. Poor guy, he was such a team-first soul & could've really gotten hurt (or could've broken those choppers he had). Just thinking now of all those whose careers were cut short tripping on sideline markings just like he did; it could've been so much worse.

Big Victor Green fan here, along with Namath, Snell, George Sauer, Jim Hudson, John Riggins, Bruce Harper, just to name a few, Vinny Testaverde was a Shakespearean character, often playing a lead  role both in Comedy as well as tragedy but he was a loveable Jet for me.

Huh? What are you talking about? Namath is the only reason to be a Jets fan? Lol, no.

HAHA, it's hysterical how people on this board don't realize it's ok to love a player they don't!  Im older so..

Namath- childhood idol

Klecko- loved that era and his toughness and versatility

Chrebet- the boys favorite player as they grew up, at one time we owned like 5-6 Chrebet jerseys, so nothing but love for the guy

Sauce- I know, I know, but I already know one day i will love him most. So shut up!

Pretty much, yea.

What other reasons would you have to be Jets fan?

Is that a serious question, because I feel like you're just baiting/trolling at this point.

Joe Namath played no role in my becoming or staying a Jets Fan.

I doubt he played that much of a material role for many "Children of the 80's" like myself who hit that key age range (8-12 yo) in those early-to-mid-80's years.  I'd wager most like-aged kids had one or all of 1. lived in the NY area (LI for me), 2. had some family or friends that was a Jets Fan and 3. Liked the Green and White colors and/or the Jets Logo (green is my favorite color) and 4. enjoyed the mid-80's Jets of Toon, Walker, Shuler, McNeil, O'Brien, Klecko, Gastinau, et. al. when they first watched them.

But you think Jets Fans born years after Namath retired should....like the Jets only because of Namath?  That's an...interesting....form of gatekeeping there peebag.

Again, I think I'm just rising to bait here, lol.

  1. Joe Namath

  4. Curtis Martin

Is that the Top 4?

Good list. Revis probably my #5

If it’s mt Rushmore for best Jets players obviously Chrebet is replaced with Revis. Agreed Revis isn’t beloved here after the way his career ended.

Mangold maybe?

Mevis? Most popular? After holding out like, every year?

One of the greatest, yes, but most popular, no.

I'm not trolling.

When I was 7 years old I became a Jets fan because they won the Super Bowl (yes, I'm a band wagon fan)/

Why anyone after the Super Bowl year became a Jets fan is beyond me.  Except for rare occasions, this is a historically bad team.

Well, ok.  You're entitled to that viewpoint, of course.

I think I laid it out pretty clear, so now you know there are alternate routes to fandom, even for a team like ours.
