Jerry Jones winning strategy

Did the Eagles bet is all to win this year?  They have $4m of cap space and their QB under a cheap contract.  They have 2 first round draft picks.  I would think they are the favorite for next year.

Yes, the Rams bet it all last year.

Exactly.  They are set up to win for several years running.

Jerry is right.  I has built a team that should win most years.  But for the above and other reasons, I don't feel it winning a SB.

It's really a great debate to have.  What makes your fan base happier? A consistent winner that always fall short,  or an "all in" go for broke team that can win it all but needs to be regularly broken down and rebuilt.

That's not an either or question. Consistent winners don't always fall short and all-in teams often do.

The right answer is to build a consistent winner that has multiple years in the playoffs giving the team many chances to win a SB. I'd rather have multiple chances to win a prize than one.

Who are happier fans?   Cowboys - playoffs 5 times in the last 8 yrs, no SB since 1995.  Or Rams/Bucs, winners of the last two SB's.  But now in cap hell...

Of course the happier fans are those that have the title, but that still doesn't mean that the Rams/Bucs way to get it is superior.  The Jets made the playoffs 4 of 6 years in the early 80s and 6 of 9 years in the late 90s and early 2000s.  Did that satisfy the fan base? Obviously not.  But if it was easy to buy/trade your way to a SB title, everybody would do it.  It's not a valid question. I know where the OP wants to go, but many of us on this site do not agree that acquiring Rodgers is the keys to the kingdom.  It might be fool's gold and lead to many more years of tearing it down and rebuilding again without hanging the banner.  Teams that tried the acquire the vet QB route and failed - Indy, Washington,  Denver - are in a Groundhog Day loop with not much season to season success.

Well I can tell you living in Dallas their fans are miserable and I love it. All they bitch about is not winning a SB since '95. I just laugh because they have no idea what being a fan of a loser organization really means.

I think i would prefer the consistent winner. Every game, every year would

be entertaining. I know I wont be wasting my Sundays watching trash.

If you can quantify happiness, you’d have to average out that number over the time period.

The Rams are not a good example though. They’ve been a consistent winner for a few years now. Just also happened to go all in one year.

Giants fans vs Dallas fans might be a better example.

I can respect that.  I think some of it might be age dependent.  Younger guys can show some patience and be happy with a team consistently in the playoff hunt.  Gray beards (like me) who were alive and remember SB III probably are more inclined to go for broke since we don't have forever....

Jerry is a brilliant businessman.  He keeps that stadium humming with the Cowboys always playing meaningful games on Thanksgiving and in December.  It is good business.

IMO what worked for the Rams and Bucs and their go for it victories was a bit of a  "Dream Team" concept.  Instead of squeezing every last nickel out of free agency, mercenaries like Von Miller and Gronkowski gravitated to the Rams and Bucs specifically to win a title.  It's debatable whether Rodgers on the Jets has the star power to create a similar situation.

As a Jet fan I am not going to beak off about how Jerry Jones runs his team.

Went like 17 years with one a playoff win

No argument.  But he's 80 years old and has a net worth north of $10 billion.  I wonder if he's satisfied with all that money and no SB's over the past 25+ years,

true enough.  the cowgirls under jones have been pretty successful but at the same time they haven't been to the show in spite of having many years with tony romo and now dak at qb.  i think another point is jones wants to make money with his team so lots of success, even without a superbowl win or appearance, generates lots of hype and sells lots of merchandise.

I have no idea why I dislike Jerry Jones so much. Guy has never done anything bad to me ... but I see him an I cringe .... feels like old blue blood plantation money vibes combined with the spirit of a carnival barker. I think i dislike him even more than the Sith Lord in NE.

Probably means he's a great guy ... who knows.
