Oh yeah, always that simple.  Just run past the sticks and someone will be wide open!  Brilliant!

If all the receivers curled after the sticks the receiver doesn't need YAC. Sanchez just has to throw it to the first open receiver, which is what he did here. If the receiver is immediately tackled, it's still a first. The play as designed requires Sanchez to make the right read, the receiver to make the catch and pick up YAC. It's unnecessarily complicated, which is the description for virtually everything Schottenheimer did.

The DBs know where the 1st down is.

I’m not really trying to defend Schottenheimer here.  Moreso suggesting that a JAG QB gets a 1st down there and we’re not even discussing this particular play as some huge indictment of the guy.

His overall offensive rankings record is not great as an OC ... but i do think he has significant talent understanding the game and working with QBs. To say an offense is too complicated is pretty funny ... its not rocket science.

His record is pretty lacking in terms of overall Offense rankings though ... maybe he is a late bloomer? ...  ... and you never know how much pressured is pushed on the guy from the HC.
