In news that will come as no surprise to fans of the New York Jets but is welcome anyway, the team has reportedly reached out to the Green Bay Packers about quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The New York #Jets have inquired about Aaron Rodgers’ availability with the Green Bay #Packers, per sources. A move that was expected as New York explores veteran options.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) February 12, 2023

The team has made it clear that they will be targeting a veteran QB this off-season and Rodgers is likely at the top of that list.  With what was a top 10 defense last season, the Jets are likely hoping for a similar performance in 2023 but with a legitimate passer under center.  Rodgers would obviously fit the bill, but there will be concerns about his age and potential compensation demands from the Packers.

If the Jets were willing to take on Rodger's full contract and pay him about 100 mil for two seasons it's not unlike what the Mets are doing with Verlander and Scherzer. Short term deals to win now paying high salaries but not long term.

This is what is going to happen, and we are going to spread this cost over 4 years.

Rodgers contract was designed for the Packers to pay him $45+ last year, which is about market, with a cap cost to the Packers of $28.5mm (that plan did not work), and then allow the Packers to trade Rodgers this season with a contract that pays him $50mm/year x 2 years but allows the team trading for him to spread that cost over 3-4 years for cap purposes.

Brilliant actually.  It is basically set up for the Jets to trade for him.

The bad news is that the Jets next QB will not have the opportunity Zach had (and he and JD squandered) of being able to otherwise overpay veterans to stack the roster.   The Jets’ next QB will be paying for the prior 2 years of Aaron Rodgers.

Good because watching this SB. No way you feel good about at Jimmy G, Tannechoke, or others

gotta be Rodgers, Lamar, Carr. If not those just f* it and let White and a rookie QB battle it out.

Fixed it.

Seriously, either you go all in with a legit vet who can get you into the playoffs and actually give you a shot to win it all. Or you keep drafting QBs and hope you hit on one.

The Jets select 13th overall. If they want, they CAN trade up for one of the top 3 QB prospects (Young/Stroud/Levis). A guy like Richardson will probably be sitting there for them. They can take a QB from that second tier of prospects in Rd. 2 (Hooker/McKee). Or they can take a guy later on (Haener/Dorian Thompson-Robinson/Clayton Tune).

Trading for Roger has SOJ written all over it. The guy is locking himself away for 4 days to figure if he even wants to play another year. The Jets get this guy it's 1 year 60 million dollar dead money deal that will screw the Jets salary for years. The smart thing is you Get Carr sign him to 6 year 120 to 140million deal or sign tannehill or Grappolo  and draft a QB and try to fix wilson or trade him. The only reason they are interested because Woody needs to fill seats any smart GM knows Rogers will play for a year and  retire. Think Douglas is being forced into this stupidity to appease delusional fan base. This is why the Jets will never win a SB because they do stupid stuff like this. They need to find a QB they can build around not a 1 year rental to make a wild card.

I make the deal with Rodgers only if he agrees to play a minimum of 2 years.

So this guy is currently sitting in the dark right now? This is day 1 of 4?

Crazy that no matter what time you read this post over the next few days, or however long he's supposed to be there, this will be true.

If you believe that the Johnson will make that deal I sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. This is a 1 yr deal no guarantees after that. You giving up premium draft picks for essentially 1 yr rental.

If the Jets acquire Rodgers, how about Blake Bortles as the backup and we bring in Tim Boyle as the 3rd stringer.  Then re-acquire Jacqueline Davidson and bring back the Flight Crew with Denise Garvey in charge.
