You might be able to steal a game against guys like Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Trevor, Herbert, Deshaun (assuming he rebounds), Lamar (assuming he's healthy), but winning 2-3 games against that competition with a much lesser QB is highly unlikely.

Darnold Schwarzenegger
I agree completely. If you want to compete against mahomes, burrow, Allen, Herbert, Lamar, Lawrence, Watson etc, Derek carr ain’t cutting it. You need to draft and develop a qb thru the draft. Aaron rodgers probably gets us to the playoffs and possibly delays having to draft a qb by a year. but in the end we need to draft and develop a qb. Jimmy g, Carr, Aaron rodgers or whatever free agent qb we sign isn’t a long term answer. even if we sign a rod I don’t think he makes us a Super Bowl contender. Popular Post Beerfish
You need a good team. And time and time and time again the guys that succeed come into a partially if not ready built team an get to sit for a full year before they are pressed into action. There is no 100% formula. You need to be really good at a couple of things and not be really weak in any area, have good coaching and play your best at the right time, and get breaks go your way at the key times.

Indeed, those of us who think that Mahomes would have been great under Jermey Bates or Adam Gase on the Jets are delusional. undertow
You are correct 90 percent of the time Super Bowls are won with drafted QBs that are elite but we are the Jets we need to cling to the hopes we can win with a good defense and a mediocre QB....that's why people around here are treating Derek Carr like he's Joe Montana. rangerous
true that you gotta find the right guy but look at both mahomes and hurts. anyone want to take hurts over mahomes? i sure don't. mahomes is like a magician they way he plays. hurts is certainly competent but you take away his running ability and he's toast. not to say that mahomes can't run but not as well and not on his bad ankle. the bottom line is it's still a team sport and there is a certain threshold the qb needs to meet. Hurts is really damn good, and young and should only get better. Yes, he runs a lot, but he is a really good passer a well. Not being quite as good as Mahomes is not a knock at all, Mahomes may be the greatest of all time when all is said and done. I would absolutely love to have Hurts as our QB, given we had an OC who knew how to use him

This is a very lazy analysis of Hurts’ game. How many players IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL would you take over Mahomes? You guys with these “let’s see what they look like in a few years after getting injured” are 1. clueless about the actual % of injuries inside vs outside the pocket 2. completely unaware about how the game is evolving offensively. Mobile QBs are becoming more and more the norm, for multiple reasons, not the least of which are the amount of time it takes to develop “pocket QBs’s” and the scarcity of them available out of college. ScarletKnight89
Jimmy G, Tom Brady, Nick Foles, and Matt Stafford are recent QB's who either played in or won a Super Bowl with the team that didn't draft them or in Foles case, left and came back as a backup. It would be great to develop a franchise QB that you drafted. But there's more than one way to win.
