McGinn: Packers will move on from Aaron Rodgers

Recommended Posts

The jets will be bidding against themselves, i can see it .  The Raiders are no threat at all imo.   The Jets are a far better option for Rodgers.

What will be fun to see is if Rodgers comes out of the hole and says he wants to stay in Green Bay.  I doubt that would happen though as then it would appear that Rodgers is not controlling the narrative so if the Packers say we are moving you he can go to a team and say he chose them..

Wonder if there’s a scenario where they play a little chicken regarding where he gets traded. If they’re ready to move on and he’s iffy enough about continuing to play maybe he says I’ll retire if you don’t trade me to *desired destination(s)*.

If the list gets narrows enough maybe it knocks down the capital required to acquire him. Certainly doesn’t benefit him any to have his new team give up a bunch of picks - not unlike Carr.

I saw something earlier that the odds on Rodgers being a Jets suddenly shortened massively today.

I think we were third behind the Raiders and Packers, but suddenly we have the shortest odds...by a lot.

Interesting, especially in tandem with this latest revelation.

The keeps getting said about JD yet he keeps proving doubters wrong...

I really don't get the sense that the Raiders will be as high on the list as people think if he does get moved. If he comes out of this and decides he wants to be traded, he's going to want to speak with teams and GB would grant it... not the same situation as LV where they're against the clock for contractual reasons. Rodgers would probably want to understand the team's offseason plans, deeper understanding of how the offense would be run, and what level of input he would have in personnel and game plan.

McDaniels is notoriously stubborn and is "System > Player"... he runs an entirely different system than Rodgers is accustomed to. They're also more stubborn in personnel, and I don't see them as a team that would acquire players just because Rodgers wants them. All they really have to pitch is Vegas/no state income tax and Adams.

Tennessee is a bigger threat. They also can offer no state income tax. Rodgers closest teammate is David Bakhtiari, who many expect the Packers to move prior to his March 20th roster bonus whether that's by releasing him or trading him. Bak lives in Tennessee and they have a need. They also have space at WR and TE to add some of Aaron's "guys" if he so desires, and Aaron has a relationship with Vrabel.

Agreed, after reading the SI article on the nuances of the divorce between Carr and the Raiders, it strikes me that Rodgers would not suffer McDaniels hyper-critical unrelenting coaching style - humbling truth bombs for players and coaches during film sessions. You have to be hungry as hell to win, to take criticism well to excel as a QB in the McDaniels/Belichick misery-in-pursuit-of-excellence system.

Mike Vrabel is a great coach with a proven track record, he has a sense of humor. I could see the appeal for Rodgers there. Roster talent is likely important to Rodgers but with his ever present misanthropic aura, Aaron Rodgers needs to be adored and handled with deference. Vrabel might be able to carry that off.

Where Carr fits, I'm not sure. He seems to need encouragement more than constructive criticism, plus 40 million a year. Clearly he's far more talented than what we've had but I'm not sure if he has the hunger for the game to make the constant sacrifices needed to get to the super bowl.

I'm think I'm done with all the anxiety...

This weekend, don't let Carr leave the building...

Starter for the foreseeable future...

Costs no draft picks...

I think I'm done with all the anxiety...

This weekend, interview Carr for due dilligence...

Offer the moon for Rodgers as soon as he emerges...

Get him signed, and go for it all for 2 seasons...

It won't shock me at all if the Dolphins get him.  They obviously need a QB as badly as we do.  They can't go into next season with Tua as their starter.

Absolutely nobody needs a QB more than we do.

Tua is cleared from protocol and despite the obvious risks, at his worst he’s a better option then what’s on our roster now (Zach).

I think he would be a perfect fit with the atypical Mike McDaniel, but where does he fit on their cap situation.

Some serious gymnastics involved there, some cuts and some undrafted free agents making the roster needed to squeeze Rodgers onto the sand at South Beach.

I really think the Jets already have a trade worked out for Rodgers, the minute he announces he's going to play he'll be moved

This is what I think 100%

I think the Jets just want to hear from Rogers that it is a go!

Indeed, I was getting crazy calls from my "friend" and Jets ticket guy and he said I passed the time to get certain tickets but that they held them for me just in case.

And when we finally spoke he was real relaxed and essentially said: "Hmmmmmmm nothing will happen yet, we can get your deposit next week, no RUSH!!!!"

That rang out in my mind like a Huge Bell, folks who sell tickets want to create a sense of urgency, especially when you are selling tickets past when you should buy them, but he said no rush.....

Soooooo......with this info ........I say Rogers.....

The Carr visit might be about keeping the Packers' trade comp expectations manageable, as much as anything.

If they think we have a legit alternative in Carr, they should be less likely to hold our feet over the fire in trade talks.

You act like we’re the ones in the driver seat here. We’re not.

GB has options, we’re the ones hot for the commodity they have. They can get “picks” from any team that wants AR.

“And it’s not just one person. McGinn said the entire power structure is done with Rodgers: CEO Mark Murphy, G.M. Brian Gutekunst, and coach Matt LaFleur. They think he’s not working hard anymore. They think he showed up for 2022  not in the best possible shape, and that he blew off the offseason program.”

Yeah, lets trade for a 39 year old w/ not much desire to play anymore.

Like carr, there is 0 chance Joe D wants aaron rodgers play for the jets.

It buys us another year for someone else to shake loose at the very least. At the same time the team grows and gains some playoff experience. Short of an injury I don't see the downside other than a draft pick lotto ticket.
