Why does the Jets organization always telegraph their moves?

Recommended Posts

This team can never play it close to the vest and protect their leverage.  No other team does what we do.  The owner proclaims in the media that we are signing a vet qb.  Why would you lay your cards face up on the table like that in the middle of a  poker hand?   i dont see the purpose it serves besides taking some heat off of you from the fans.

The Jets let the whole world know they were drafting a qb in 2009, 2018, and 2021 draft.  How did it serve the franchise? What was the advantage?

We always know what the move is going to be at Qb.  Never any suspense, slight of hand.

(The correct play is to stabilize the Qb  position with a vet  without giving any picks.  Draft a qb for once when we arent expecting it this year or next.  Alex smith and mahomes style. )

Oh…,that’s what FA is all about. Your insights  are amazing!!

So…. Isn’t that why the Jets are meeting with Carr? Doesn’t the fact that they’re meeting inform the NFL they’re looking for a veteran quarterback?

Everyone who watched football last season knew the Jets were signing a vet QB this off season. It was never a secret.

Exactly. Nobody and I mean nobody would believe them if they tried the whole “we always explore upgrading every position but we are happy with what we have at QB.”

It would actually be such an obvious bluff that it would even further highlight the Jets’ desperation here.

None of the Jets moves were a surprise.  Even the most casual fans knew we needed a QB.  JD has been way better than just about every single other Jets FO regime as far as keeping things quiet.

Much todo about nothing here.

Many owners do or say things like this. You obviously don’t follow that team closely.

Personally, I think the Jets were very "stealthy" with how they went about this whole Carr thing so far anyway. OK, here's plan, we wait until Rodgers drops the acid and climbs into the hyperbolic chamber then we call Carr, send Woody's private Jets jet out to fly him back east, we make reservations at that Italian restaurant in Summit, tell them that we'll pay to have them close it from the nosy unwashed masses and wine and dine him and then stuff him back into the limo and have the chauffeur make tracks to MMU (Morristown Airport) and by the time Aaron Rodgers emerges from the chamber he'll be none the wiser. Now somebody find who took that picture from under the table at Fiorino's..."

I don’t see where they’ve telegraphed their moves. There are only 32 teams and each one keeps an eye on the other if only to be prepared for when they play them. Most likely every team saw that Zach wasn’t getting the job done and had doubts about his ability to be the qb this season. It is obvious that Flacco is out and white will get some offers so that leaves them with a large hole to fill.  And unless Hackett comes in a pounds his fist on the table saying he can fix Zach this off season then they will opt for a proven vet. About the only thing unknown is who that vet will be and what it means for future seasons.

“Why doesn’t Woody ever speak to the fans!!!” “Why doesn’t Woody just shut up?”

”When are we going to hear from Joe Douglas?” “Saleh’s press conferences are nothing but coach speak” “why put all your cards on the table?”

What woody did was make it known to all the QBs that will become available / looking to change teams that they are in the market without tampering. With that being said, the jets trying to get a vet this off season is the most obvious of moves that any one team will be making this year…

All 4 of the Jets QBs played at some point in the 2nd half of the season. Actually maybe in the last couple of games.

Either way the only one that came close to looking like an actual NFL QB in that time frame was a former CFL QB who everybody knows does not have a future as the starting QB on this type of team.

When your team has 4 QBs and they are all letting the entire rest of the team down it's either a sign that 1) The rest of the team sucks (Partially true, because of injuries) or 2) This team needs a new QB (True no matter if (1) is true or not).

Jets aren't in a position to draft their future even if they wanted to, so it's very obvious what's going on.

I would be known as the 'worst kept secret in the NFL' if Woody wasn't tweeting about it.

It’s like saying we can hide the performance or value of our QBs Wilson, White, etc. and get some team to trade us multiple 1st round draft picks for them. The whole world can assess things with the eye test requiring less analysis then we all think.

In this case Jets not telegraphing anything It’s no secret. Freaking Stevie Wonder can see the Jets need a QB.
That being said I still can’t get over Woody Johnson just about telling the entire NFL Jets were drafting Sauce. He’s an idiot

Different sport but.....what are you hearing out your way? Talk out here the Devils trying hard to get Timo Meir. Based on Horvat, would cost a bunch.

Not hearing anything really, our media here talk as if they know something but they very very rarely actually do know anything.

Because they've been so bad at QB that there's nothing else that can say that won't be met with a collective eye roll.  What was Woody going to say "Zach has been fantastic and he's going to be our quarterback on opening day next season".  I'm sure fans would be rushing out to buy season tickets with a comment like that.

Not a single fan who paid attention to how last season transpired needed Woody to tell them this was the route they were going.  Targeting a vet QB was as obvious as bringing Revis back when CB was the Jets no. 1 need and he was hitting free agency.
