Nice recovery at the end........

Jim Wyatt @jwyattsports

#Titans GM Ran Carthon on QB Ryan Tannehill: He is under contract for us and right now he is a Titan and he will be a Titan.

This is far from a ringing endorsement.  Seems like he may have realized midsentence that what he was saying wasn't ideal.

Tannehill carries a $37 million dollar cap hit. The Titans save $18 million by trading him or $27 million by cutting him. I hope Ran Carthon is good at picking football players, because he’s having a rough few days in front of the microphone.

That $27 million savings is based on a Post June 1st designation.  While you can use that designation at any time you don't see that Cap Relief till June 1st. So they would have released their starting QB with no cap relief during the prime dates and weeks of free agency.

They just released their starting LT and were ranked the worst offensive line in 2022 by PFF. They will most likely have to replace 4 starting offensive lineman in the off season and the one that remains is awful.  A restructuring of Tannehills contract makes the most sense and would save them $17 million and they'd have their starting QB and additional space to fix their offensive line.

By restructuring Tannehill, you’re also extending Tannehill, which is probably not what they want to do for a 35 year old QB with injury problems. He’s set to make $27 mil this year, cash. Why would they want to sit on that to eke out 8,9 wins, max, this year when they’re clearly in rebuild?

They'd have to go full tank mode though. I don't think they'll do that with Henry in his prime there and Vrabels seat getting warm.

Vrabel is royalty down there and he supposedly signed off on Ran Carthon after getting the previous GM fired for drafting Malik Willis against his will. Henry is 29 and might also be dealt this offseason. This is a great year to tank, given the QBs that will be available.

It’s us or Green Bay, Aaron.  Just make up your mind and let’s get this figured out.

Indeed.

Question: Does it bother you at all that no one else seems interested in Rodgers? I’m sure some sleeper teams will make inquiries, but the league doesn’t seem too eager to give up draft capital for AROD.

This would also require Tannehill to agree to a restructuring… and why would he agree to that. Easier to get a new contract at 35 than 36 or 37.
