what should the comp be...

Whatever it is, it's likely going to be more than most Jets Fans will want it to be.

So many of you think we have al the leverage, I think you'll be surprised what the final deal will be when it happens.  Not in a good way.

I still support this trade, regardless.

The Packers have the leverage. They have from March 17 to opening day to trade him. That can wait us out. They could also trade him to someone else. He doesn’t have a no trade.

Both teams have leverage.  Both also want the Rodgers-to-Jets outcome.  And both win by having it happen sooner, rather than later.

If JD has proven anything, it's that he can get a trade done.

I think too many folks are panicking and/or thinking the worst at this point.

Ok for the 100th time, the Packers have to trade him if they want to sign free agents. Makes no sense for them to wait. But the trade won’t be official until after June 1st.

No, they don't. They really can't wait us out as they need to move on for various reason including the cap and team building. They can't trade him elsewhere realistically. Despite not having a no trade any team that they trade him to has the threat of immediate retirement to think about. If the Pack try to screw him he can let the other team know plainly what will happen if he doesn't want to go there. The pack has no leverage.

There are other factors such as cash and players that can move this a lot, but if I were guessing just picks, I'd say this:

  • 2023 2nd
  • 2024 conditional 4th
    • goes to 3rd if Jets make playoffs and he is on active roster at start of league year
    • goes to 2nd if Jets make AFCCG and he is on active roster at start of league year.

That I could live with.  If he retires after one season, we will need the higher picks in 2024 to maneuver in the draft for a QB so I doubt we give away a high pick without substantial success and another year commitment.

If we include a player like Davis or Mims, I would expect that to drop to a 2023 3rd, or eliminate the 2024 conditional pick entirely.  Cash is hard to predict, but I believe there are options for one team or the other take on more cash/cap hit which would translate to more comp in their favor.

Rodgers just told the world he was 90% retired 2 weeks ago. He also said that GB needs to do right by him. Any leverage gb had is gone.

Exactly... Not sure why people still feel the need to argue against this.

No team will take on that salary and cap hit unless Rodgers agrees to go there and play.  At the moment, he appears to be committed to the Jets.  If he chooses to stick to his guns, GB has no leverage at all.  No-trade is meaningless in this situation.

Only if they eat a good portion of the money. (2) 2nds is awfully rich

Who is gettng fleeced? Will Fathead Joe keep his hot-fleecing streak going? Odds are against, GB can let this drag effortlessly.

Honestly! The Jets not getting him and getting the #1 pick next year is the second best outcome imo.

It's two 2nds if we make it to the AFCCG (or SB if you prefer).  That's a price I would happily pay for that outcome, even for one season.

Sure.. That would be great... still with the leverage they have... very rich... JD wouldn't get played like that IMO

If GB has no leverage, this deal would have been announced at 4:01 EST.

Or maybe they're trying to save face by waiting a moment before acquiescing. Let's play this out:

GB asks for more.

Jets say no.

GB is still has to move on, but is now stuck with a pissed off high priced player.

Jets still say no.

GB is still stuck.

Jets start talking to B list QBs.

GB is still stuck.

Jets bring in a low price 1 year rental at QB, but they can still easily make space and accommodate AR.

GB is still stuck.

Are you seeing the pattern here? This is the reality which GB is facing and it isn't a sellers market.

Swap #13 for #15 (low 3rd value) & 4th rd. Pick

4th next year that can become 3rd or second on snap % and playoffs

That was my suggestion as well

offer it when they won’t budge, gives them kind of a face save
