NYDreamer
If we are going the way of what the Rams and Bucs did then yes we go all in with veteran talent while progressing the young core of players.

Doggin94it
Absolutely not. No cap room to do that and you can't have 2 DTs making 20M, which is what will happen once we pay Q.

David Harris
I think the Jets are basically out of money. JD has been restructuring guys to defer money to 2024/25. AR 12's contract is going to add significantly to that as well. Signing Buckner would put us in Saints territory in the near future.

In that case Lawson would have to go and we can leave it up to the kids to apply outside pressure which should be much easier with the interior of the line collapsing . EDIT: Keep in mind I'm not advocating we do this but it can be done if you have two studs up the middle and spend less on the outside
LAD_Brooklyn
Colts' DeForest Buckner Responds to Trade Rumors The NFL offseason is chock-full of buzz and rumors. Those rumors aren't always good, though, or even accurate, for that matter. On Wednesday night, the Twitter page @nflrums tweeted a rumor about Indianapolis Colts star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, intimating that he wants a trade out of town. "#NFLRumors #Colts DeForest Buckner wants to play for a contender and could be traded," the account said. "Buckner has a $19.7M cap savings with trade with 0 dead money." This particular Twitter account has a less-than-sterling reputation for reporting what it deems to be reality, but those who weren't already aware of that were caught off-guard by the Buckner tweet. Buckner himself took to Twitter on Thursday morning to debunk the rumor. "I need you to check your sources @nflrums," Buckner tweeted, including a GIF from the movie "Wolf of Wall Street" where Leonardo DiCaprio's character colorfully states, "I'm not leaving!" So, there you have it. While it makes financial sense for a rebuilding team like the Colts to try and move Buckner or to acquire draft assets, he doesn't want to go anywhere and the Colts don't want that either. Drafted No. 7 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Buckner earned a Pro Bowl (2018) and Second-Team All-Pro nod during his time in the Bay Area before being traded to the Colts in 2020 for the 13th-overall pick. He signed a lucrative four-year, $84 million contract extension at the time and since then has made another Pro Bowl (2021) and a First-Team All-Pro team (2020). Since joining the Colts, Buckner has helped turn their defensive front into one of the best against the run and provided an interior pass rush that they'd been missing for years. He's one of the team's biggest leaders and is considered a "glue guy" in the locker room. In seven seasons, Buckner has started 109-of-112 games and totaled 463 tackles (69 for loss), 53.0 sacks, 140 quarterback hits, 7 forced fumbles, 9 fumbles recovered, 20 pass breakups, 1 safety, and 1 defensive touchdown. Ummmmmm…… jets have 88 million in cap space in 24 (10th most) and 195 million in cap space in 25. (7th most) Even after you add in ARod u still have plenty of space. also the salary cap isn’t even real. Saints have been in “cap hell” for the past couple seasons and they always find a way to get under and sign players to huge contracts (like Derek carr this year)

Especially when they like Johnson, Huff and Clemons.

Saints have been in “cap hell” for the past couple seasons and they always find a way to get under and sign players to huge contracts (like Derek carr this year) Ummmm the cap is definitely real and although the Jets have cap space in 2024 and 2025, it’s this year they have to worry about. They only have 3 contracts that are worthy of either cutting or restructuring, Lawson/Davis/Mosley, and otherwise they just don’t have the space with having to fit Rodgers into the mix along with their drafted players and a few more small adds. As far as the Saints, they are in cap hell every year, but are able to restructure enough of their contracts, to make it work. For instance, Derek Carr’s cap number this year is 7.2 million. They restructured 6 contracts and now are below the cap. Every team does this to an extent. Check out the amount of dead cap the Saints have this season. It’s ridiculous. But it’s deferred money and their players agreed to it. So.

The two will add $160 MM over the next 2 years. Update those numbers and then look at the holes in the roster from the players who left.
