RB Ty Johnson Back

Fine by me

He isn’t going to be more than 4th in the pecking order when Breece is healthy anyway.

And the Jets don’t need to be spending picks on RB’s with Hall, Carter, Knight and Johnson in the fold and big holes remaining at C, DT, etc.

Probably just means he will have a chance to make the team, but no guarantee that he will.

This. If they decide the position is can't-pass at whatever slot (presumably day 3), or even just from an UDFA they bring in, then we'll see what happens.

They'll surely bring in camp fodder anyway, and probably will take a chance on an UDFA or two at least, but what it does is see to it there isn't a depth issue at the position heading into the draft. I wouldn't want him feeling any pressure to take a different early-season 3rd string / later-on 4th string RB with an actual pick.

Worst-case scenario the position is fine if it remains as-is.

Unless he makes a Peterson or Jamaal Charles like recovery can't expect too much out of Breece early on.

I'm hoping Carter is training hard to have a bounce back year but it may be another RBBC for the first month or 2.  I still think they're going to sign another guy..  Carter, Johnson, Knight didn't have much success.

Why should he?  He averaged two touches a game for 5.3 yards.  He is a decent blocker and can catch out of the backfield.

Or are you looking for Ezekiel Elliot in his prime for a 4th option at running back?

More just not a fan of him and seems to never go away. Like Jeff Smith was. By no means do/did I want us to go after a name like Zeke. I just figured we could draft or go the UDFA route for a depth RB.

This is the reality of the NFL though.  There is only so much money to go around each year, and if you are down to your 4th string running back to rely on, you won't have much of a running attack.  Johnson doing what he has done is fine.  Of course, if you can find better in round 6 or in the UDFA pool, then you pick it up and Johnson moves on.  But for now, he will serve us well as the 4th string RB.

I never understood the Ty Johnson hate. At best he would be our 3rd RB....probably 4th. He always seemed explosive when given the chance. Granted not the biggest RB. More like a McKinnon type. Probably no guarantee that he even makes the team.

I think he fumbled once and people don't forget.

Oh, he's an explosive runner.

My issue with him is that he's mistake-prone, unreliable, and seemed to be on the field too much on important 3rd downs over the past coupe of years (one of my many complaints with MLF).

Ty Johnson is absolutely fine as cheap depth.

He can run, catch, block and return kicks. Versatile, and has speed. I'm good with this.

Special teams. Bet Boyer had a vote in this. Not guaranteed, hold the fort guy for Breece.

Not to take anything away from Charles, but I'm can't understand how Peterson did what he did after tearing ACL and MCL so late -- on Christmas Eve.

We get collective chubs with Hall having a 200 rush-rec game, followed by a 116 rush-yard game. Just looking it up now -- the second half of the season after tearing two knee ligaments (and wasn't the ACL fully severed?) rushed for 1600 yards over the last 10 games. Oh yeah, and the QB to keep any safeties & LBs honest was Christian Ponder.

I still don't even see how it happened, and if I wasn't watching/following firsthand I wouldn't believe it. I can't fault Hall for not replicating what should be a physical impossibility.
