Where are we getting this coin from?

We have a lot of cap flexibility. Still can restructure a few guys. JD can still add more pieces.

FYI - He has been structuring the contracts with void years to spread the signing bonus. So that has helped this year’s cap.

On the phone with new #Jets DL Quinton Jefferson on why he signed. "It is a great opportunity to showcase my skillset and to get back into a defense that has an attacking front. I think the sky is the limit with that group. I think we are about to take over the division..Then when you add in Aaron Rodgers and that type of offense with him leading it, you already know that that is a defensive dream.""

Well, at least the myth of A-A-Ron coming here is helping us secure talent.

Very good fit from a pass rushing perspective, but a weak run defender.

Possibly a better pass rusher at this point than Cox and Campbell, but not as strong against the run (Campbell the best at slightly above average).

So if we can lure Woods, a 4 man DT rotation might be as follows.  This is based on my hypothesis that JFM moves inside full time to allow JJ & Clemons more reps on the Edge where they are equally effective as JFM vs the run but have more pass rushing upside.

1. Quinnen Williams:  Dominant vs pass.  Very good against run (often double teamed)

2. JFM:  Very good vs pass.  Good (avg) against run playing from the inside

3. Jefferson:  Very good vs pass.  Poor against run

4. Woods:  Good to very good against the run (4th best run stop in 2021 before slipping a bit last year).  Not brought in to rush the passer

Thomas gets some time as the 5th DT.  A big pile of MEH last year.

This likely takes DT off the Jets round 1-2 board.

Still need a run stopper.  Possibly Woods or possibly a late rounder like the kid from Western Kentucky who is coming in for a top 30 visit.

Jets now have 3 very good to elite (Q) interior pass rushers.

DT was never on the Jets board round 1 or 2. There about to just pay a DT $20 million/year, you don't then use a premium pick on it as well

Interesting strategy to go after specialists at the back end of the rotation rather than to fill with average pass/run guys.

The upside is above average play on clear run or pass downs.

The downside is mostly on pass OR run downs when the Jets might get caught in a guessing game .. or show their cards on how they are playing the down.  That’s where the front end of the rotation would likely fill in the cracks.
