Popular Post Sarge4Tide
Jets signed a backup QB with links to Nathaniel Hackett and a solid rotational defensive lineman today. That brings the number of Jets currently under contract to 65 or 25 under the 90 player limit. Aside from a veteran starting QB who has yet to be determined, the Jets seem to still have 4 pressing roster needs.... Starting Quality Center - (Veteran Free Agent or 1st / 2nd round pick) Starting Quality / Key Backup Quality LB - (Veteran Free Agent or 1st / 2nd round pick) Starting Quality / Key Backup Quality Safety - (Veteran Free Agent or mid-round pick) Another Good Rotational Defensive Lineman - (Veteran Free Agent or mid-round round pick) Of course, quality depth could be useful at every position. RB: If the Jets love Bam Knight, we might be good at RB, if not, another RB could be found (Vet backup or late round draft pick) WR: If Davis is packaged to another team for a veteran QB, another young WR might be nice (late round draft pick or preferred UDFA - IF the right player drops to #13, who knows?) TE: If we are keeping 4 TEs, Yeboah could be upgraded to team with Ruckert long-term (If the right player is there on Day 2, maybe) OL: We signed a couple of solid vet backups, but a young stud on the OL at any position is an option (draft pick - #13 is in play for the right player) DL: Another unit that is pretty solid, but a talented young DT might be a mid-round draft option (late round draft pick or preferred UDFA - IF a Jalen Carter falls to #13, ok, maybe) LB: A 3rd quality LB is a priority, but this draft is deep in LB, so you never know (late round draft pick or preferred UDFA) DB: Another deep group but every group can benefit from an infusion of talent / youth (late round draft pick or preferred UDFA) JETS 2023 ROSTER UPDATE (April 6, 2023 / Version 1.6) JetNation Roster Page: https://www.jetnation.com/2022-new-york-jets-roster-players/ Controllable Contracts Offense: 31 Defense: 30 Specialists: 4 Total: 65 – Estimated Available Roster Spots: 25 / 90 (for example 9 free agent signings / 6 draft picks / 10 UDFA) OFFENSE QUARTERBACK (3) 2 – Zach Wilson xx – Tim Boyle – Free Agent Signing from Bears 15 – Chris Streveler (Reserve / Future Contract – 2022 Practice Squad) 19 – Joe Flacco XXXX UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT XXXX RUNNING BACK (5) 20 – Breece Hall (2022 Injured Reserve) 32 – Michael Carter 25 – Ty Johnson (Re-Signed UFA) 48 – Nick Bawden (2022 Injured Reserve) (Re-Signed UFA) 27 – Zonovan Knight WIDE RECEIVER (8) 17 – Garrett Wilson xx – Allen Lazard – Free Agent Signing from Packers xx – Mecole Hardman – Free Agent Signing from Chiefs 84 – Corey Davis 11 – Denzel Mims 82 – Irvin Charles 86 – Malik Taylor (Reserve / Future Contract – 2022 Practice Squad) xx – Diontae Spencer (Reserve / Future Contract – 2022 Practice Squad) TIGHT END (4) 83 – Tyler Conklin 87 – C.J. Stark
Last time you did this we signed Lazard and traded Moore shortly after. is this your plan to get another move made to cause you to have to re-do this??? lol. 2
OtherwiseHappyinLife
Always a solid job @Sarge4Tide. A few things to keep an eye on 1. You have JFM at Edge, yet we still haven’t signed a starting DT to replace Rankins and have only been looking at rotational guys. A couple young Edges who are good vs the run w/ upside as edge rushers deserve more playing time …. does this all mean that JFM slides inside full time? 2. You have Clark as a Safety, yet he doesn’t seem to fit as a complimentary safety to Whitehead in the base 2 deep zone the Jets often used. Could he be the box replacement for Kwon as a sub specialist who is good at covering TEs and filling running lanes? The Jets have tried to convert safeties before .. 3. If no additions at QB, I can’t imagine a worse pair of backups. Have we not learned? 4. Laken Tomlinson’s starting job should not be as safe as it appears. Could the Jets draft an OT or Center (while adding a FA) who has versatility to replace Tomlinson as starting LG for 1 year. A transition until 2024
Larz
Sarge after reading about the new cutdown rule where there will not be a first cut, it’s going from 90 to 53 in one wild chaotic crazy day.
Sonny Werblin
Should we be concerned about WR and TE development since we couldn't figure out how to make use of Elijah Moore, Denzel Mims gets worse by the year and we could find no role for 6'5" Lawrence Cager who in 6 games with the Giants had 13 receptions for 118, 1 TD and 8 first downs? It's an absolutely ridiculous rule IMHO.

You’ll see teams cut a good guy that has a chance to catch on with another team early, but then you’ll see players who are getting cut that are borderline cut 1 second before the deadline lol. It’s going to dribble out all day and then a deluge. it’s also a reaction to teams resting starters in preseason games and obviously injuries
TuscanyTile2
Thank you for this, @Sarge4Tide. I appreciate the legwork! I still don't feel like we have enough at WR, btw, but from the "draft experts" online, it sounds like JD isn't taking a WR. While the draft has sort of been on the backburner this year due to AR, I'm really starting to look forward to it now that it's getting close. I definitely expect us to trade at least 1 of our 2nd rounders. And I could see a trade down at #13 if the player JD wants (I'm assuming OT) doesn't fall to us.
derp
I would be furious if they spent a first round pick on a linebacker. Base is nickel. They had Kwon Alexander in that role really cheap. Just not a position to spend premium capital on any more.

On the other hand 1) Garrett Wilson, 2) this is probably why MLF got let go, and 3) Garrett Wilson.
32EBoozer
Nice write up. Thanks. OL: If MB 5th being picked up then JD has flexibility in trading down and gaining additional Day 2 picks for the following. We need to get into the 3rd Rd. Lots of holes can be filled with 2-#2 & 2-#3 picks. OC: Hoping Jones follows his coach to Jets and we draft one day 2 DT: No need drafting Jalen Carter at #13 if Q is in the plans for an extension. So many stud DT in this draft available Day 2 WR: CD is redundant and injury prone. I’d love to see an EM replacement in this draft. Scott, Dell etc. Get him ready for Hardman departure in FA
